Russia has a lot of beautiful cities, not only Saint Petersburg and Moscow. Russia has very old history and many nationalities are living together on huge territory. Russia is multicultural country and it makes it very interesting to visit.
When I was young we never ever slept during white nights, every single night we were out, celebratring life! Now i'm oldish, dont go out that much but still dont sleep during white nights, just sitting on balcony, having a smoke and thinking about good old times :D There is a downside to white nights tho. In winter it's completely dark almost the whole day: you go to sleep in the dark, you woke up in the dark, the sun raises only for several hours and it's mostly cloudy so it's basically dark. I know some people love it but I guess it's impossible to film anything about your trip and that's why YT lacks footage of winter Saint-Petersburg which is AWESOME btw!

I last visited St Petersburg in 1999. Eventful trip - The Lada taxi that I used from the station to the hotel lost a rear shock after driving at speed over the rails and on a river trip on a jet boat catamaran, we narrowly missed colliding with another river bus. The whole trip was huge fun. I found the Russians quite reserved at first but they warmed up when I tried to speak Russian even though my pronounciation was terrible. I need to go again.

Yes, for sure! That was exactly my question to the hotel PR, how was that possible?! And they explained the obvious, that we as outsiders don't immediately realize: with socialism, everything belonged to the state, right? So if they needed that structure to become a hospital, that's what they'd do. And yes... St Petersburg had a real hard time with the war and the siege... So good to see that the city recovered and is now thriving! About the microphone, I use different ones with different cameras. When I'm shooting on the street I tend to use the iPhone (I prefer not to call much attention, otherwise poeple stop thinking that I'm doing a TV show... it happens everywhere! hehe). So, I use the Shure MV88 (amzn.to/2yM0uze). There are links to the other microphones and equipment I use in the description. Cheers!

Сейчас за окнами январь. Темнеет уже около 5 часов вечера... От вашего видео так захотелось лета, с бесконечным рассветом, когда утром тебя будит солнце уже в 4 часа утра, но при этом совершенно не хочется спать, а хочется только жить! Гулять всю ночь по центру, наслаждаясь теплом, красотой и свободой. Видео столь позитивное, но в то же время сейчас так сильно заставило погрустнеть. Хотя конечно случится! Опять настанет весна и май с сиренью во всем своём многообразии, а затем настанет лето с бесконечным весельем... Только немного подождать.

When I was young we never ever slept during white nights, every single night we were out, celebratring life! Now i'm oldish, dont go out that much but still dont sleep during white nights, just sitting on balcony, having a smoke and thinking about good old times :D
There is a downside to white nights tho. In winter it's completely dark almost the whole day: you go to sleep in the dark, you woke up in the dark, the sun raises only for several hours and it's mostly cloudy so it's basically dark. I know some people love it but I guess it's impossible to film anything about your trip and that's why YT lacks footage of winter Saint-Petersburg which is AWESOME btw!

I last visited St Petersburg in 1999. Eventful trip - The Lada taxi that I used from the station to the hotel lost a rear shock after driving at speed over the rails and on a river trip on a jet boat catamaran, we narrowly missed colliding with another river bus. The whole trip was huge fun. I found the Russians quite reserved at first but they warmed up when I tried to speak Russian even though my pronounciation was terrible. I need to go again.

Would love to know what microphone you use, you have great audio even next to a busy street! Incredible fact that a hotel like that was turned into a hospital. Really hits home the fact of how desperate times were during that era
Yes, for sure! That was exactly my question to the hotel PR, how was that possible?! And they explained the obvious, that we as outsiders don't immediately realize: with socialism, everything belonged to the state, right? So if they needed that structure to become a hospital, that's what they'd do. And yes... St Petersburg had a real hard time with the war and the siege... So good to see that the city recovered and is now thriving! About the microphone, I use different ones with different cameras. When I'm shooting on the street I tend to use the iPhone (I prefer not to call much attention, otherwise poeple stop thinking that I'm doing a TV show... it happens everywhere! hehe). So, I use the Shure MV88 (amzn.to/2yM0uze). There are links to the other microphones and equipment I use in the description. Cheers!
