  • Skullz reacts to The Art of Dying by Gojira for the first time
    Gojira is a French heavy metal band from Ondres. Founded as Godzilla in 1996, the band's lineup-brothers Joe (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (lead guitar), and Jean-Michel Labadie (bass)-has been the same since the band changed its name to Gojira in 2001. Gojira has been known for their progressive and technical death metal styles and their spiritual and environmentally-themed lyrics. The band has gone "from the utmost obscurity during the first half of their career to widespread global recognition in the second".[1]

    I wonder how my experience would be with Gojira if this was the first song I heard, lol... Oh well he's in it now, lol... These guys are heavy as hell the earlier you go in their discography, however they are also introspective with their lyrics. Try Flying Whales, Oroborus and Silvera.. That is the lighter version. THEN bounce about at will. A very good band to view live as well once you find out what their main sound is. If you go for live reviews try Pray- Live at Red Rocks and The Gift Of Guilt....you will then understand.

    Other tracks I'd recommend: Amazonia, to hear them double down on that tribal sound. Born in Winter for a slower, more groovy sound. Silvera for just an overall banger with great melody.
    Honestly, anything from the last 4 or 5 albums are pretty much "can't miss". I'd love to hear your take on their lyrics, because while some are obvious, others are quite opaque and open to interpretation.

  • @goldfishgallant1432
    @goldfishgallant1432 Год назад

    Can't believe I'm not seeing anyone say this, but the lyrical interpretation for me is this guy is dying, he is on the verge of death/already death. This absolute visceral feeling of being conscious and not being able to move a single muscle, life slipping away from you. Breathing slow, mechanical heartbeat, purely running on reflex.
    And the line that absolutely seals it. "I try to keep my eyes open and I realise, I haven't closed my eyes in a long time" Essentially he's trying to open his eyes because he can't see but then realises that his eyes are open, they just don't grant him sight.

    Skullz! Hello. I just wanted to recommend a band for you to check out, either for your own pleasure, or for reactions, if you deem necessary. The band is called Floater, and they're a progressive rock band that hails from Eugene Oregon, originally. They describe themselves as being a Pink Floyd-ish sounding progressive rock band. (That sometimes gets heavy.) There's definitely some overlap with Tool, but it's subtle.
    These guys are in no way metal, so I'll just throw that out there. A good album to start with might be "Angels in the Flesh, Devils in the Bone."
    One of the coolest things about them, is they are a three-piece. The lead singer, Rob, plays bass incredibly well (better than most), and it's just insane the soundscapes that these three people can produce.
    I've been along for the whole Tool journey, and I just have a feeling that you might like them. Be well, and take care!

    Gojira is a double-edged band for me. They put out both the best and the worst things for me personally. I absolutely love their melodic stuff but I often dislike the singing and chugging.

    Wow, this is an odd song for a first Gojira reaction. Not for beginners. That means they respect you if they recommended this one

    Sooooo NOT like Tool.......the singer sounds exactly like, oh, take your pick..........cannibal corpse, lamb of god, soulfly, etc.......any death metal, grind core type singer. The music was interesting and a bit different than normal, but, cmon, the singer is a dime a dozen. Maynard on the other hand.......a bit more nuanced

      Gojira is often compared to TOOL because of their progressive nature. It’s more about odd time signatures, polyrhythms and spiritual vibe not comparing MJKs vocals to Duplantier.

      @@jasontaboada6855 Agreed........but it takes a lead singer to truly compare one band to another......no disrespect though

      @methodhardie9193 Год назад

      completely disagree, plenty of bands are excellent without even having a singer, moreso than any that have mediocre singers, and bands can be compared healthily by ANY member other than the singer too, the sheer endurance that Mario from Gojira provides with his drumkit, and I've always loved Jean-Michel's bass playing, always brings an extremely solid groove and isnt afraid to get technical.@@mistere6871

    Only problem I have with Gojira is that Joe Duplanter is a shit lead singer/growler.
