Alphen aan den Rijn is one of the bigger cities in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. The municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn has approximately 110,000 citizens. Alphen was founded by the Romans as an outpost of the Roman Empire. The city was called Castellum at the border of the River Rhine. Nowadays there are many Roman excavations in Alphen and the local museum is dedicated to these findings. Moreover, there is a Greek-Roman Theme Park called Archeon.
