    Here's how I dial in presets for my Acoustic guitars - both are Piezos, and I used to use Acoustic IRs, but I found this way I have more control, and can make adjustments, as well as make it sound like "My" guitar!
    This preset is called "ChaseBlissAcoust" and look for "Piezo Saver" in the folder for my main gigging acoustic preset.

    I find JNC's presets are great. Like a lot of players today I switch back forth between an acoustic and an electric. The signal chain is a Taylor equipped with a L.R. Baggs Anthem equipped pickup and one of my electrics going through my Helix LT into my PowerCab 112. When John said that he didn't use IR's to get his tone I was skeptical. The IR's were a necessity, or so I believed. I watched the video and then found that I had already bought the preset. I loaded the preset into my Helix and started testing it. I made some modifications but I, overall, loved the sound. This is when I got the idea that I would add one of my 3Sigma IR's and really kick it up a notch. John was right I don't need an IR. The preset sounded like a well miked acoustic guitar. All of the IR's made the guitar sound artificial even when I'm using only the mic on the Anthem set up.
    Thanks for the great job

    Man, I've always loved your playing and I listen to every 'how to play' video, but this brought me all the way back to how I felt as a teen when I discovered Al di (Aldi?) Meola!
    Your sound creation ability has also developed by leaps and bounds in the last two years, and now I want to hear what you would be able do get out of the Mail Order Twin and it's associated cab. Some of my favourite guitae music was allegedly recorded with the Silvertone 1484 and its wacky cabinet, but I can't get those tones out of it

    Think I will try this on my favorite Traveler Guitar. The Yamaha Silent Guitar. It feels almost in between an electric and acoustic. Great writing tool.

    Hi John I purchased the press of your for the helix floor. I do also have a stomp xl, however I was wondering how you add them and also which ones are the best for an acoustic with an LR Baggs Anthem I own few guitars with those in and then I also have two Australian Maton guitars. I have struggled to get a really good acoustic tone as I do a lot of live looping. Any help would be appreciated

    My Taylor acoustic never sounded better than with the HX Stomp. I recently added the mic preamp to my acoustic chain to get a little more warmth and level. But I use 2 EQs parametric on the front and 10 band at the end. This helps me shape the undesirable frequencies out of the Taylor piezo. Love the tone you are getting. Very organic and natural.

      @@gerrycollins5696 Gerry I have my acoustic preset file ready to send to you but need to know where to post it. Its not nearly as complex as JNC's but does the job. Since I did my preset a year ago I have removed one of the EQ's. Also removed the compressor. I am using an external SP compressor.

      My signal chain within the Stomp mono input>4voice chorus>vintage delay>dynamic plate>dynamic hall>studio tube mic pre (be careful with the gain)>parametric EQ On the parametric to eliminate a lot of the "piezo quackyness" I lower the Q and gain on the mid frequency. My style of acoustic is I use a lot of ambient, hence the two reverbs which I switch on and off. The chorus I switch on and off with an external TRS switch for F5.

    Sounds good on my phone. 70 Hz is below the deepest frequency of a standard tuned guitar (83 Hz). So you are adding a lot of potential issues - especially for people with speakers going deep.

    you should give the Sire Acoustics a go, they are FANTASTIC for the price. Not only do they have great internal pickups and EQ , but they play so nicely. Better than some of the guitars I've played for 3 times the price.

    For Acoustic and Nylon String guitars, I like the clean sound of the Jazz River Amp. Turning the Presence setting to zero, and the Bass up does a lot to get rid of the excessive bright and quacky sound of Piezo Pickups, and can produce a surprisingly natural tone, particularly on Nylon Strings. This then makes using an EQ easier, and sometimes unnecessary in my experience.

    About 9:10 he says 48 "kilo hertz" but I think the display reads 48Hz 2.2q and - 6.3 and then later on he adds 123Hz 1.7 +8.1
    He does an A - B comparison but those parametric boost and cuts are already there so the +10 High/Low at just emphasizes the "snake" like curve. Bottom line for me is. Aside from the misspoken "kilo", I like the sound. It is better than most IRs, but his piezoelectric guitar pickup is not as bad as most. And fingerpicking covers a world of piezo quack madness. So I like this lesson.
    btw: listening 🎧 with full isolation headphones so the bass may be exaggerated for me. I still like it.

    For my acoustic patch, keep in mind 1. I have a Taylor which has the worst pickup system, 2. I play lead, I use the mic preamp block and assign the polarity to a footswitch and I use the acoustic simulator block and assign the body to a footswitch. I think this works better than acoustic IR's. I also use 2 eq's, one to boost low mids and one to as a freq cut Incase of feedback, and a la studio comp to cut back on the clipping sound that sometimes happens when playing too hard

  • @Xirrious
    @Xirrious Год назад +1

    John, I'm gonna be honest. It's cuz I love your channel...
    I think you should practice acoustic more. You played it just like you play your strats, which is great, but the acoustic shines elsewhere.
    Also, this tone is my least favorite you've made. I'm not saying it's objectively bad, I just don't like it, that's just my subjective feeling about it.
    I want my acoustics to sing with bright harmonica overtop of the warm bottom end. I want loads of open strings and harmonics anywhere I can get them. Chords and strums, percussion, etc.
    Maybe that's just me.
    You know what though? I like this video still because it makes your skill far more approachable and less intimidating. You're so damn good at just jamming and improv, that I'm kind of glad you finally put a video out that didn't impress me.
    Thanks for all your work, man.
    Edit: then you go and admit you're not great at fingerstyle right away, what a boss move. I think that's what is grating me here, I play acoustic almost exclusively without a pick and electric with a pick, so my ears want to hear that elsewhere too.

    • @brandonmoore7797
      @brandonmoore7797 Год назад +1

      I think I'm with you as far as preference on tone. Does not sound bad per se, but sounds rather muffled to my ear, which I suppose is due to the ear being trained on listening to the acoustic guitar as I play in the living room. Perhaps it's too hard to get a clean glassy tone out of a piezo without sounding harsh, but I know what I'm about to try with my Stomp... Thanks again John for the inspiration and tips. I honestly never really thought about plugging in my acoustic.

    • @jerryhorton5708
      @jerryhorton5708 Год назад +2

      Interesting that you use fingers mostly on acoustic and plectrum on electric. I myself was the same for years and now I find that I hybrid pick or use fingers on electric and I think that is mostly because I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get good at finger style on acoustic (and I’m still not where I think I should be).
      I don’t, however, share your opinion about JNC’s opening here. I think that was very similar to Al DiMeola’s acoustic work or Phil Keaggy when he uses a plectrum. It was lovely.
      Have a wonderful Christmas!
