Val Kilmer played him brilliantly.
He sure did.
Alright. Now you can get off You KNEES!
But who knows he act like the real Doc Holliday?
Iconic
Agreed sir
Val should have gotten an Oscar in the roll.
Val Kilmer best actor and definitely deserved Oscar for his performances throughout his career!
Oscar is overated anyways
@@chrisalberts9414not worth anything now but in the 90s it was an achievement
Fkn facts. Aside from Val trying to be batman dude is one of the best actors of my Era.

By all accounts he lived life as if he had nothing to lose.
Because his condition was terminal and he knew it.

Ask Jim Morrison even better
Vals role as Doc was one of the best acting performances I've ever seen.
Doc Holliday was so deadly because he didn't fear anyting. He would move when others would hesitate.
He was staring death already in the mirror 🪞. It would have been an honor to get away from the sickness of fighting death.
Tuberculosis was hell on him so yea. He had no fear.
He was fast and accurate, some of his draws happened after his opponent started to draw first.
Kind of ironic that he died in bed with his boots off. He did pack a lot in a few years.
Legend has it Johnny Ringo in real life would rattle him.
You know in 1881 there was a guy reading about the shootout at the OK Corral and telling people, "holy crap dude, that's the guy who did my root canal!"
Kurt Russell was the genius behind the movie tombstone and his love for our country and the people that made it great, put tombstone in the the greatest movie ever category. He inspired Val to play Doc Holliday in a way that honored his life. THANKS FOR TOMBSTONE KURT. Best Wyatt Earp movie ever!!! I bet there's 50 other Earp portrayals, including Kevin Costner. None of which honored Doc like Kurt's Tombstone. Bravo sir....
Didn't care for the Kevin Costner movie, and i didn't finish watching it.
@@ms.sonshine8878it’s weird to me that most people dislike it I watched Tombstone many times as a kid and watch Wyatt Earp just a year ago and thought it was great
Both damn good movies.
The Costner film is good. I also like Hour of the Gun and Doc. But, Tombstone is the gold standard. It's 'a daisy'. 👍
And Val Kilmer played
Doc Holiday perfectly.
Except he wasn't skinny enough. The actor who played Doc in Wyatt Earp looked more the part.

perfectly opposite of the real doc
@@zeldahyrule543 I liked Val Kilmer's portrayal, but the actor who played "Doc" in the competing movie "Wyatt Earp" was more like the real thing. Doc was historically described as weak of build and was suffering from a consumptive disease which made him even more spindly. One author posited that the reason Doc was involved in so many shootings is that, not being capable of physical combat, he aways reached for his gun because with that he was deadly and could fend for himself.
@@zeldahyrule543 I know what you mean. Please feel free to read my more detailed comment above.
If you had a fatal disease back then
You could definitely be good at gambling & gun fighting.
What did you really have to lose?
Yeah people criticise Kate in this film for being an enabler for his addictions, but the guy has one foot in the grave already. She's helping him go out the way he wants.

If you had Covid 19 mixed with a little bit of asthma you think you can play 36 hours of poker???
@@Anthony-bd8uythat's still not TB tho. You knew you're a dead man walking if you had TB.
@@Anthony-bd8uy having had Covid twice and still having asthma (asthma has sent me to the hospital, which Covid never did)
That’s not even close to the same thing
TB in the 1800’s was death itself
The closest comparison to today, would be leukemia
With pretty similar survival rates
That being, only 65% of people would make it 5 years once experiencing symptoms
10 years, that would drop to 30%
Much much much lower then the 95%+ rate of Covid
I love the first shootout where everyone involved is nervous and intense and doc just smirks and winks at them to get it started.
Among my favorite Tombstone moments. That and, "Oh, make no mistake: it's not revenge he'd after. It's a reckoning."
@@southernsweetpea "Reckoning." What a great word.
Kilmers greatest role that was never acknowledged. He played the role so perfectly and believably well and never even got a nod.
I agree. But he's fondly remembered for it. I couldn't tell ya who won the best supporting actor that year. Or who was even nominated. Val was not, yet his role as Doc lives on and is justifiably revered all of these years later, while the nominees of that year and even the winner, well, not so much.
Doc Holiday had a dentist office on Main St. in Dallas, Texas. On Nov. 1963 JFK was shot on that street.
Interesting fact !
Gives me chills.
He had an office in his birth town also. GRIFFIN, GA. The building is still standing.
@@valeriepagendarm6376why
He also had an office in Hoboken
Spent 2 hours in Dallas airport with Powers Booth, Curly Bill in Tombstone. Really cool man.
You ever seen him in “ Frailty”? Really good movie
He was a wonderful actor and I really miss him. 💔
Doc "Say when"

It's an amazing meme, too...!
"And I ain't kiddin', neither...!"
Love westerns and I FINALLY watched Tombstone. Yes Val should have won an Oscar so should have Johnny Ringo.
Challenging a man, who was knocking on deaths door every single day, to a duel, is one of the dumbest things anyone can possibly do. Doc was more afraid to not die with his boots on than anything else. He welcomed a duel without fear. You would have to be crazy to challenge a man with nothing to lose and no fear of death.
It's almost ironic that despite his best efforts he died in bed with his boots off.
Everybody knows that? That's why they called him doc. And his practice in Dallas was torn down roughly two years ago and remodeled into a gas station. It's a damn shame they did that
Yes, a real shame.
Damn. Nothing is sacred.
That cup scene had me rolling
Val played his part perfecto
Wyatt Earp of all people probably knew him better than anyone else. Since Wyatt was visiting Doc as he laid on his death bed, you have to realize how much Wyatt loved Doc. And cuz he was just so good with a 6 shooter, he ended up dying with his boots off. It's a shame Wyatt or whoever ended up with Doc's guns didn't put them in some museum. It would be very cool to be able to see the guns he carried.
Dude literally went terminal with tuberculosis and said to himself, “Might as well go crazy and do things.”
'I have not yet even begun to defile myself'. 😅
Val looked nothing like the real Doc Holliday, but he sure played him well!!! His performance was Oscar worthy!! I love that cup scene where he mocks Johnny Ringo!
Evidently Mr. Holiday is an educated man. Now I really love him.
Underrated comment 😂👌🏼
**mockingly spins cell phone**
I remember learning about him being a dentist and bounty hunter when his character came out on The high chaparral it was my favorite episode and coolest introduction in to his character and even more cool when the episode ended Doc said "Well I'll be headed to Tombstone, I have business over there" such an awesome ending
The best character val killer ever doc Holliday
I have to say that Jim Morrison is a pretty close second.
Val Kilmer un acteur hors-pair, un grand parmi les grands
J adore cet acteur exceptionnel ✍💕
I have never heard it said more eloquently.
Val Kilmer was born for that role. He turned what was a mediocre movie into a brilliant Western. Was robbed of a best supporting Oscar nomination. And in this day of franchises, would have been given his own movies based on the character. If you're re-watching Tombstone, it's probably because of Val Kilmer.
He put the movie on the map
Val played awesome in this. Im glad we all agree with that. Everyone is roses for this
A great performance... played to PERFECTION!!!

Greater love hath no man thant this:

Almost as great as this was the love these two friends had for one another.
May we all be so Blessed with such sincere and devoted friendship and love as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.

Doc Holiday studied dentistry in Dallas Texas.
It took all of the cast to make this movie perfect.
Doc holiday is a legend of a man. He became death itself. As it consumed him . I wager he lived more life than those whom died at twice his age.

Kilmer as Holiday is one of the most iconic film roles of all time. Every single line he has in the movie is memorable and quotable. The fact that he wasn’t even nominated for supporting actor is criminal.
I think it Val Kilmer's best acting part!
And doc liked knives and used them often.
Read the biography of Doc. Was really good.
He was a very interesting character.
Yes.Val Kilmer was untouchable in that role.In my mind, the best part I have ever seen played.
If I'm not mistaken, his dental practice still stands in Griffin, GA.
The scene he approaches ringo who was expecting wyatt earp, emerging from shadows and the dialogue "i am your huckleberry".

‘Necessity is the mother of invention.’ (Paraphrased)- Plato
Outstanding performance by Val kilmer...there will never be anything close to that portrayal of a western legend
Val made this his roll. He did amazing here
Popularity contest in HollyWeird! He was not the flavor that year! He was good in Heat also.
I know Tombstone is the name of the town, but as a title for the movie it works as a great double entendre as the name of the town and also for all the men that are killed. For me I think it's Doc Holliday's tombstone that everyone recognizes.
From what I’ve researched Doc killed maybe 2 people. He was seen weeping after the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
I've also read an account quoting Doc's girlfriend "Big Nose" Kate. She said after the OK Corral shootout, Doc went up to his room, sat on the bed & wept. Apparently he was also slightly wounded on a hip or thigh. IIRC, Doc had a boarding room above Fly's Photography Studio but I don't know/remember if they were shacking together there. At best they may have been considered by the public as having a common law marriage.
Holiday had the mentality of a samurai, because of his tuberculosis he knew he was a dead man walking and therefore he had nothing left to lose, because of this he had no fear and thus he was invincible; where others would hesitate he would go all in, where others would dodge and take cover he would stand tall and return fire, in those moments he wasn't just dead, he was Death!
That quote just makes Doc even more badass
They should put that quote on his Tombstone!
Doctor John Henry was a better lawman then Wyett Earp
Doc actually robbed the Palace Saloon in Prescott after losing. He got pissed, left then returned to rob the place. He headed to Tombstone after that
Another fact about Doc Holliday was he was in love with his cousin and she was killed or died and that is when he turned and became Doc Holliday the Gunslinger and he was very very highly educated with a photographic mind he was a genius IQ
Sorry. Not true. The actual story just like Doc Holliday also says in the movie Tombstone is .... Yes, he did fall in love with his cousin but when she was 15 yrs old, she ran away and joined a nunnery (she chose to become a nun) instead of choosing him. Of course, this broke Doc Holliday's heart. 😢❤ (You can Google this info).

Just the way Val portreyed him.
Well he was fond of the lightning which was a snub nose double action pistol the longer ranchers and peacemakers and armys were single action and had longer barrels harder to draw as fast as a snub nose and with a double action you shoot like any modern revolver meaning all you do is pull the trigger once youve cocked the hammer back the first time because it automatically cicles the chamber
