I am always so amazed at what a fine memory Judi has for dialogue. I’m younger than she, and I can’t remember what I had for breakfast! Her delivery always seems to command a room and a deep well of silence envelops her words as the audience becomes mesmerized by her incredible acting chops. She is my very favorite actress. I always know I will enjoy quality time when I watch her perform.
Dear Hearts: this is one of my favorite scenes from Twelfth Night- and Dame Judi Dench and Benedict Cumberbatch deliver it perfectly. That they can go into character literally at the drop of a hat speaks of their skill as actors...brilliant. Just brilliant. All Love
it helps the Audience to hear and catch lines for words diction clarity from colloquial speech. She also makes herself sound louder and clearer than her own personal sweet self. It sets the canvas frequency sustained on a stage, from where the sentiments and inflections of emotion can go higher or down in power. Her so well chosen act lines demonstrated such complex feelings ambling wide in only a few, but as richly condensed as the Bard wrought them. Really it's more complex than it seems and she mastered like such sample so long ago, that comfortable in those old slippers she can find room for variance each time. The age calling for that role points to, and evokes with some nostalgic vibe, to her early growth once for it. She has been so ready so long ever
retnavybrat yeah Ben's parents are both very famous actors (they also play Sherlock and Mycroft's parents in BBC Sherlock) so I'm sure that Ben does in fact know many older actors
+Katie Tucker Yes I seem to recall reading in a magazine somewhere that Judi knew his mum Wanda Ventham well as they both acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Judi recalled how she would regularly encounter Wanda pushing baby Ben around a London park in his pram, she has literally known him all his life.
the same was said by Una Stubbs. She remembers him since he was a baby too. Thats why he kissed her in Sherlock, the first episode. He said, thats natural for him. They told him never to do it again, but they left it in the scene anyway.
I am absolutely at awe at the way the can slip into character so easily - being so vulnerable suddenly in a room full of strangers... incredible. I wish I could do that.
Rydia704 I saw her as Cleopatra with Anthony Hopkins as Anthony. I never believed such a tiny woman who looked nothing like a queen could command the stage as Cleopatra, but Judi Dench was, as you say, mesmerising. It was years ago but that performance was unforgettable.
Holy eff! I knew Judi's performance as Viola was legendary but Benedict NAILED that. (And he only had two lines!) He needs to play Orsino in a production of Twelfth Night!
Every classical singer should watch these two interviews --- it is about the natural rhythm and line and and the arch of the phrase written for us by the composer and poet.
I could listen to them read a few lines from every Shakespeare play for days....on repeat! Watched National Theater at home Twelfth Night 2 weeks ago, omg no words!
I had a lovely English teacher who believed Shakespeare was meant to be seen and not read since they were written as plays, not books. Therefore, we learned to enjoy his works and both read and watch!
I see so much of Judy herself when she acts and to me it’s real and makes a character tender because it makes you so sure that she herself isn’t pushing anything she’s just moulding
I saw the 1968 RSC production of 'Twelfth Night' at Stratford-upon-Avon, directed by John Barton with Judi Dench as Viola, and this clip took me back to that very great performance. Dame Judi always has direct access to the emotion. Alan Halliday c/o Camburn Fine Art France.
I swear that someone who has never heard Shakespeare or perhaps thinks they don’t like it cannot resist being charmed and moved when this amazing woman speaks the words.
This scene is quite a turnabout from the one where Judi, as Cicely, curses Benedict, as Richard III, and prays for her own son's death. Absolutely wonderful clip. Judi can create magic with only a few lines. And Benedict has a small part - Judi nearly went to pieces when she realised how clever her remark was.
ebony barton If anything, you should take objection with the phrasing of the rest of the sentence. This portion of it is perfectly well-framed, and it seems like you might have been made to learn the rules of essay-writing by some stodgy old professor while trying to earn a literary or liberal arts degree at a secondrate school, possibly even at a postsecondary institution (perhaps you're just a subpar student). This is just a RUclips comment section, though. It's also possible you're just a smug and stupid American with a superior attitude, always presuming to know better although you never actually do. "Sorry, but yeah"
I saw Judy Dench play Viola in Melbourne - it must be at least 50 years ago. She was wonderful. She also played Hermione and Perdita in A Winter's Tale and was so convincing in both roles that it took me several seconds to work out why Perdita was not taking a curtain call!
Lucky you & I bet she was -incapable of less! I'm in my 80s now but as a RADA student, Peter Barkworth took some of us to see the RSC's 'The Cherry Orchard' with Geilgud, Peggy Ashcoft, Dorothy Tutin & a very young Judi who was a wonderful Anya- her future certain! Now in 2 mins flat -she gave me goose-bumps! She does us all proud!
There are tonnes of people who had rich and famous parents and had grown up surrounded by other rich and famous friends of their parents but still failed at their profession. Talent and opportunity won't take you far unless you also have ambition, discipline and dedication.
When she goes in Shakespeare mode she transforms and it is absolutely beautiful.
Makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, she's so wonderful... ❤
It makes you feel really privileged to listen to her reciting Shakespeare.

Nothing, absolutely nothing compares to a good english actor....and these two here are simply GENIUS

Amazing quick moment of getting into character a split second after laughing over Benedict's joke. Incredible people.
Monique Amado - Artist & Life Coach if you’re paid for it, you better be able to to do it wel.
Pure professionalism.
A sign of a bloody good actress.
I love the way benedict voice drops an Octave as soon as he gets into character
XBGAMBIT GAMING yes yes yes yes yes. Goddamn do I love his voice.

From fun laughs with Ben, to complete acting professionalism in the blink of an eye.
Too much talent for one stage
Judy is a legend, one of my favorite British actress ,never get tired of watching her in everything she has worked ,love her !
Judi with an 'i'- as in Judith.
I liked how Benedict essentially climbed onto the stage instead of walking up stairs on the side or something
he is too cute
He always does that 😂❤
1:13 -- I guess Martin Freeman was right when he said he thought it was a law that Benedict knew every actor over the age of 50. : )
retnavybrat yeah Ben's parents are both very famous actors (they also play Sherlock and Mycroft's parents in BBC Sherlock) so I'm sure that Ben does in fact know many older actors

@@shirleynitka5030 That's lovely to know. haha

WOW! She is mesmerising and so awesome to watch... Benedict’s voice is compelling... both great talents..
God she is mesmerising :)
Rydia704 ///// Judy Dench is a tresure to the profession of acting.

Benedict is such a gentleman - and his VOICE! Enjoyed this very much.
Just amazing, to hear someone with that degree of control over their craft.
His modesty, humility, presence, is spell binding 😇
Both of them! lol
My God, she is a legend. Every time I see or hear her perform Shakespeare, I’m transfixed!
Every classical singer should watch these two interviews --- it is about the natural rhythm and line and and the arch of the phrase written for us by the composer and poet.
Dame Judy looks just WOW! You Brits got huge talents, that's for sure!
Wow! to see Judy Dench on stage in Shakespeare would be an absolute treat. That's how you do it!
Or...how you like it
Oh thank you Dame Judy. A lady capable of making ANY performance - mesmerising!!! You will never be forgotten.
That's why you have to hear Shakespeare and not just read him. Oh yeah.
I just read Hamlet, while, however, listening to the BBC Radio Play where dame Judi Dench played the Queen. It was a delight.
What superb actors they are....wonderful, talented actors of class and dignity.
I already started bawling and they haven't read a single word yet....gawd I love these two!!
A big fan of Judi Dench, she's amazing.
I see so much of Judy herself when she acts and to me it’s real and makes a character tender because it makes you so sure that she herself isn’t pushing anything she’s just moulding

Now that a great memory!
2 sentences - Ben nails it xD Love those two so much :)
Twelfth Night is one of my favorite plays and I absolutely love this performance. I want more!!! I would pay good money to have Benedict play Orsino!
Anyone would pay good money to watch Benedict play anything!
Really the best…Judi Dench one spectacular actress
Absolutely beautiful of course, but either of them could speak the shampoo bottle contents and make me cry! 😂
Brilliantly said❤😊
Received Pronunciation in it's most classic form. Would love to hear more Original Pronunciation in performance.
Dame Judy is a national treasure and Benedict will be.
Jud Dench, my favorite of performers.
I bloody love Judi Dench.
Judi Dench is sooo cute.
A V 😙😙😙😙 I agree and an A list actress, love her.
Lydia, love watching this excellent actress.
Dame Judi Dench and Benedict Cumberbatch. Mind boggled.
They are world class.
I swear that someone who has never heard Shakespeare or perhaps thinks they don’t like it cannot resist being charmed and moved when this amazing woman speaks the words.
awww he looks so cute at 2:42
I adore his laugh. 😍☺️
It's such a joy to watch her work. 🙂
she is a very fine actress,I loved her performance very much. I almost forgot they were on stage,it seemed so real!
One of my favorite scenes out of Twelth Night!. And two truly amazxing actors performing it!
they are perfect
Judi is AMAZING!
If only it had been three times as long. The scene, that is.
Just fantastic I wish I had her memory ❤️❤️🦋
Me too!!!! Its worse bec of Covid 😁
For once today's Shakespearean actors aren't speaking at supersonic speed and you can actually understand what they're saying.
Totally. I love how they treat Shakespeare now.
I love them both.
Wonderful
I could listen to Judy all night.
Sheer joy and amazement as always Judy!!!
Just the BEST! Love them both.
Love them both! 💕
What joy! Thank you!
Make him the next James Bond!!
Oh my God your are absolutely right.
Dear God, not a scrap of JB in this character.
@@MimiYouyu He’s a phenomenal actor and can do any role.
Love Benedict. Love Dame Judi.
Just perfect.
Breathtaking!
The Brits make the English language sound sublime......
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
He is just awesome!!
Simply mesmerising.

My dream come true right there, except I’d be in the middle getting to perform as well lol
Thank you.
That was amazing.
なんという素敵なパフォーマンスでしょう!
She is magic!
Judi Dench is monumental.
Pure pleasure
In a word...brilliant
Adorable and awesome 💗
I am amazed by this talent
fabulous
Beautiful
judy: (trying to get into character)
benedict: "not a very big part" that's what she said lmao
She is just brilliant
If every actor who plays in a Shakespeare play had Dame Judy's talent then everyone would still love his plays.
Exceptional....!!!

considering the famous people that were around when he was growing up, how could he fail? So much talent right before his eyes.

❤❤❤
Brilliant.
I like these better than all the stupid fan question videos. I get to see Benedict enjoying what he does best: act.
Anyway we can see/purchase the entire festival? Fantastic!
There is something magical when good British actors play Shakespeare poetry.. Why they stopped doing it on TV..
brilliant
woh! does not get much better than that
Judi i love you😍😄
O, it came o’er my ear like the sweet sound that breathes upon a bank of violets.
a little sparkling jewel and then its gone.
Cute comments. I hope theres always people like you around.
