Fun fact: the pretty girl on the bicycle is Monica Hughes, a Melbourne model who later married a French guy called Pierre Martini; they had three daughters, one of which is celebrity chef Karen Martini.

Indeed Main reason most of the silly old bastards are doing it is living in hope that they might be able convince some 23 year old "fellow cyclist" chick that they are still virile. Same thing with the gym. I seen them in the Bayside area .....stupid old twats busting their guts, throwing weights around sending their blood pressure through the roof trying to use their money to find an attractive young carer .....oops, I mean sexual partner. Once you're over 60 you're not "keeping fit" you're trying, desperately, to outrun the devil of ageing and death All utterly pointless, of course.

nice to see so many Australian cars on the road ..make Australia productive again ?

Exactly, we were productive, & so we prospered. The poor Chinese copied us & now they r becoming wealthy. We have replaced that model with importing people & products, & if it wasn't for our mining? we would b a completely financially broken state

😳 Wow ‼️ That’s amazing to think I was only just the other night cleaning out some storage and in a box I’d saved a bunch of footy cards that I collected back in the 1970s, mainly of the Hawks but all the same, had them neatly placed in a few photo albums and just then, I kid you not, I saw a few of the exact cards in my collection. Incredible that I’d kept them neatly all these years to see them on RUclips. Awesome 👍 and thank you to the channel’s creator who has done a tremendous job in posting so many really interesting old videos. Love it 👏👏👏

King street bridge, collapsed just after it opened. A lot of people don't realise or remember that. There was a scathing report about it's construction, we don't seem to be able to build bridges in Melbourne.

Inferior steel was part of it Cracked girders rather than collapsed. So out of action for a long time.
So that is why no one remembers a collapse.

Just found out how well this sold in the UK.
In 1971 only five or six songs outsold it to n the UK.
Outsold all the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr singles in the UK for 1971.

Good time video. Who are the people, where are they now? Beaconsfield parade is so peaceful. If they rode down the middle off the road now they would all be breath tested. So much fun. Cheers thanks.

You wouldn’t get away with that stunt today of the bikes on the top deck of the TK Bedford car transporter going over Kings Way where Coffey Ford was and you can see the Heliport that’s still there but what a stupid dangerous stunt that one was and it would not have been too much head room going iunder the railway viaduct let alone them flying off onto the roadway if the truck had of hit the picks! Lol

    • @CBM_Walks
      @CBM_Walks 8 месяцев назад

@jamesgovett NO one went under the viaduct. Queens Wharf Rd (after King St Bridge was built) ran parallel to, & between, the Yarra and the Flinders St viaduct.
There's an exit lane to the west, before the railway viaduct & just after original Batman Park (seen a bit in the video) which was half the width it is now (from via Viaduct to river). Batman Park didn't go all the way from river to the viaduct till late 70s.
There was also a carpark area beside Queens Wharf Rd so truck could easily stop there.
Queens Wharf Rd had been there for over a century, & when each bridge was built it became a secondary access road to/from each bridge.
As for the people on the bikes on the truck they're likely stunt people.
From east side of King St Bridge, the Queens Wharf Rd turned on to the bridge.
The side ramps (which now only go into the Crown Basement carpark) used to connect to Yarra Bank Rd (on south side) were also side ramps down on north side of King St bridge. Could drive from/to King St bridge & merge from/to the centre carriageway (which of course went above the Port Melbourne/St Kilda viaduct. Or not, & drive from one river bank road to the other.
And in all those options above would not go under any part of the viaduct.
Can find photos of the area in the 60s/70s on Weston Langford Photography site & on the City Collection photos section by City of Melbourne.
Queensbridge also had similar turn from north bound lane into a west bound Queens Wharf Rd which ran straight ahead, where the road now turns to line up with Market St.
Could also drive north across Queensbridge, turn left/west & go to King St Bridge and wouldn't go under the viaduct.
