Love the 'Passengers can't mess with my buttons intrusion bar'. If it had less doors I would consider buying this. Then connect to the app and put the phone in it's universal wireless charge holder.. Oh, hang on.. Great review as always Tom :)
Alan Bond had disappeared by the time the Getz came along but I know what you mean. I think exterior has a look of trying too hard and will date quickly. Interior appears to be an improvement but overall it is not a match for the Audi A3 sedan, although in a higher price bracket.
Cathode Ray Nipplez yes, it was the Excel selling for $9990. Quality was abysmal and gave Hyundai a poor reputation for many years. How things have changed.
I completelty disagree that the Getz was woeful. I had one for ten years and near 300,000. Had three crashes in it and treated it pretty poorly and it was in amazing condition when I sold it. Never replaced the clutch, had any engine wotk appart from two timing belt replacement prior to them letting go and one battery. Started quickly, ran quiet and smooth. Paint was still shinny and hardly a chip on it and the light lenses clear. Not even a echo can claim that after 5 years. They were making rock solid and highly reliable cars even in the 1990s. Many of my mechanic friends told me not to be scared of buying one as they had fantastic service out of Ecels and Elantras. I also asked other ramdoms at service staions and called companies who used them in their fleets how they found the Getz. All the stories were that they are amazingly great cars for reliability. So don't jsut wake up now and think you have doscovered something nobody knew before. Hyundais are for the money superior cars and have been for at least 15 years.
Very good pick up Brad. Looks like the standard i30 Sedan (the black one we did a walkaround of last month) will get the new futuristic-looking twin spoke wheel, while the N-Line will be sticking to the current-gen i30 wheel design. Weird…
Will this run on 91 grade unleaded like the existing SR/N-Line/Sport? Wish I could convince my missus to let me trade my '18 i30 SR in on one of these!
The US version gets normal instruments and an 8 inch infotainment system. I wonder if Hyundai will drop the i30N fastback for a N version of this sedan?
Can’t wait to check this car out in the flesh. Only things I dont like are FWD only and it’s a boot rather than a fastback hatch, apart from that let’s wait to see what the price tag in aus is...

I am not sure about the exterior view (I have watched a number of overseas videos on the car), I don't particularly like the sharp exterior lines which seem to be the latest designer trend. I don't like the wheel design (personal opinion) but I am very impressed with the interior treatment. It is far from generic. You didn't mention whether there will be a full size spare which I think is important for Australia. As a manual, I think it would be a good (great?) drivers car. Other than that, we just have to wait and see what the company decides is good enough for us.
It definitely comes together a bit better in person, but I don't think Hyundai are trying to appeal to everybody with this design -- it's very assertive. The interior, though, is hard to fault. Final specs for Australia are yet to be determined. Likely the base models will come with a full size spare but I think the N-Line will be a space saver.
Tom. Is this i.30 Sedan/ Elantra a working class hero? Or, does it try too hard? I realise that a full review is yet to come. So we'll reserve judgement on that. Anyway. Thanks for the video of a seemingly 'good thing' to come.

Cars with big rims & low profiles tyres are back breakers in Australian roads, however good rest of the car is. Hyundai seems to have different design languages. New Santa Fe and Telluride are looking more modern and fresh. The i30/Elantra line is having too many sharp and angular lines. Not great.
It isn’t. It’s a lightly reworked version of the existing 1.6T. The variable valve duration feature was enough, in Hyundai’s eyes, to give it new branding as a SmartStream engine.

This 2021 Hyundai Elantra L~Line is way better than the Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla!
It’s not complete with out the sun roof
one piece hood wood have been sooooo much better..
Styling inside & out seems just too “try hard” to me & just not successfully resolved or sophisticated.
You ruled in doctor who
The front end is very over styled
Cars with big rims & low profiles tyres are back breakers in Australian roads, however good rest of the car is. Hyundai seems to have different design languages. New Santa Fe and Telluride are looking more modern and fresh. The i30/Elantra line is having too many sharp and angular lines. Not great.
Let's hope they get the damping right
Yeah look I don't know about the styling.....very Garth Vader look about it.
The engine is all new.
It isn’t. It’s a lightly reworked version of the existing 1.6T. The variable valve duration feature was enough, in Hyundai’s eyes, to give it new branding as a SmartStream engine.
