1. Use every single drop (unless you don't like it). 2. Not all sales are good. Sometimes quality is cheaper. 3. Buy high quality used products as a rule, but some things are better new. 4. Repair over replace, but don't waste time on things beyond repair. 5. Build it yourself, but be mindful of the fact time is more valuable than money. 6. If you don't like the color, paint it. Pick color(s) and stick with them for consistency. Leave a little color to find it more easily. 7. Budget your money. Always weigh the cost against time you're spending to save money. Prefer the activities that save money which you also enjoy.
It's so good to see you! Thanks for all the tips. And don't worry if you've fallen off the bandwagon a little with minimalism, I think that's very natural. Our society sets us up to overconsume with how cheaply products are made today. Our grandparents would purchase a phone that would last them a decade. And if it broke, they would call a repairman to fix it so it could last another decade. Many of us have lost this way of thinking as we haven't been given much of a choice. I'm very happy to see the efforts you're making to reduce waste. I've realized pristine minimalism is unobtainable. But the better we can learn to change our mindsets, the better we can uncomplicate our lives.
Seeing your name pop up on my subs was a great way to start this morning. I love to see a lot of habits I started practicing over the past few months being discussed here,, especially using every drop, fixing broken things, reusing things like clothes, and the headphones situation of quality over cost in that case 😆
I finish everything I enjoy to the last drop. I've even bought a jar scraper spatuala (WOW) this works so well on mayo, jams, peanut butter etc. Squeeze toothpaste & cut it until completely gone. There is so much left over in each container.
Great guidelines on frugality! I especially like the tip about if you don’t like the color of something, paint it to match aesthetic. Also, related to books… when you buy a new book, it’s up to you to break it in. If it’s beat up, you know it’s doing its job. Be well, and see you soon.
Glad to see another video. I like being frugal. And I like to invest in higher quality product, since they will last longer, keeping me from needing to replace the cheaper version sooner. I also love thrifting.
It's great to see your face! I enjoy the conversational tone you have in this piece. There's always the principle, and then the application of the principle, you know? I still regularly declutter my stuff, and strive to have only what I truly enjoy and/or need, but life isn't about being obsessed with how many things you have, even if that's a step on the journey. Appreciate your approach!
Great to see you living minimal AND frugal, it's better on the long run 😀 I live your rules for years and I ❤ it. I live minimal in a too big but inexpensive apartment, couldn't find a cheaper smaller one, so I use the extra space to store long durables like noodles or toilet paper I bought on sale, and I don't need a cellar for my yearly used camping stuff etc 😇 It takes a lot of stress from me to have an emergency reserve in these times 😊
You can buy a replacement airpod, just so you know. For any of them. I used to work at Apple just file a repair request and they'll sell you a single one if that happens again.
Yes you do the same thing chopping tubes and bottles in half that I do! I use a mini cosmetic spatula to get it all out. I also tip empty bottles upside down into the next one and let gravity do the rest. It takes time but it's worth it. I was able to get an extra week's worth of moisturiser out of one tube alone :)
I think if you're looking for another direction to move in, that it would be cool to see you cover more lifestyle content - things like the items and objects you love, the way that you focus on work or get things done, the kind of routine you have now a few years later, etc.
Welcome back, struggling with consistency, too. And yeah, I am also gettingquite a kick out of fixing stuff now. It gives you nice dopamine boost, too, and that's priceless... Also... I don't have to deal with finding a handyman, arranigng a visit, etc. I might still spend quite some time getting the material for fixing something, researching how to fix it, but at the end it feels way better :).
Before minimalism was labeled with such a title it was always just considered being frugal. So if you are wondering if you are still a minimalist, I would say yes, because it's a lifestyle not a title. It's living smarter and more effeciently rather than wasteful. Call it whatever you want but it's the smarter way to live. Love the Hamilton Khaki field mechanical showed off in your video. Very practical and excellent looking watch that is more than just a watch, it can become an heirloom.
Welcome back man! I tend to struggle with overwatching the small expenses as you mentioned... sometimes it has no point and I try to remind myself of it when I catch myself doing it
I'm going to sit and watch this properly when I've got the time, but I just wanted to say it's great to see you, and I've watched your videos for years. Always great work! All the best to you brother!
trying to be more frugal but also keeping the aesthetic is such a struggle for me. but i slowly realize that i have to be patient with myself. i am unable to build copies of stuff that i want (because im not that good) but i can always save up for something of quality-which will make me happier knowing it took time and effort rather than getting it in an instant. thank you so much for this video! it was a great reminder. 🙂
Another example of frugality COULD be purchasing a book new, reading it, and then recouping a fairly good percentage of its cost by reselling. Once I read something, the minimalist within me doesn't really want the clutter. Sometimes I just donate to library and claim the deduction.
Great to see u back bro. Do u mind to share with me what watches are you wearing on the green and black nato strap? I’m interested to know about it as I’m currently in search of nato strap for my watches too.
Hi Cheng! I've enjoyed your videos for a long time and I was wondering if I tt was me that I did not see any of you anymore. I don't think not being a minimalist is a bad thing. Sometimes you just need to aquire more stuff for necessity. I think the most important part is to keep the most positive and effective use our resources as society. I hope you be safe, Ange.
I’m back and hopefully will be back again next month.

9:55 - ouch. I've done that many times. One of many reasons I'm considering switching away from Premiere.

Welcome back! It’s good to see a video from you again.
You uncover a crucial point without overtly stating it. Minimalism is a label. Finding true value is the key learning.
Chuffed at the validation of my random impulses to paint everyday items colors I like, I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Welcome back CK! Missed your wisdom! 💕
