It's not quite on the level of Vlad or Soto, but Alfonso Soriano's 2006 was amazing. 46 homers, 41 steals, 135 OPS+, and moved from 2B where he was pretty bad to LF where he was pretty good. He somehow only finished 6th in NL MVP voting that year.
Jim Thome was underrated no doubt. However he didn’t even come close to being on this list for the Indians Albert Belle in 1995 by far was a superior season and was one of the greatest of all time 52 doubles 50 homers 126 RBIs with a .690 Slugging with 377 total bases and oh yeah in only a 144 game schedule. Not even debatable. After that it would probably be Manny Rameriez in 1999 with his 165 RBIs which has still yet to be touch and was the most by any player since the 1930s which would now be approaching 90 years.
2022 shohei could also be a pick for the angels 9.7 bwar 9.2 fwar 142 wrc+ 59- era- and fip- i just find it crazy that a 62 homer 206 wrc+ season was not a unanimous mvp season
@@TheBlackWaltz Ohtani's war was lower due to the position of DH. war is probably the least objective metric compared other aggregate stats like wrc+, ops+ etc.
@ru40342 After seeing how he got 9 war as a dh this season. I think the war for dh is okay. It could use maybe a slightly smaller penalty. But it's not nearly as bad as I previously thought. Trout was insane in 2013. He had 10+ war with -1.2 defensive war. Ohtani had a -1.7 dwar due to being a dh this year. That's how nuts trout was in 2013. Even if you add in the half a war difference for the defense, Trout still had more war.
@@TheBlackWaltz id say positional adjustments for war still needs some update, but thats a different story. 2013 trout was just different because he was a monster on the basepaths as well. i believe before corbin caroll he had the best baserunnjng season by a rookie and it is still one of the best baserunning seasons in the modern era
I agree with bautista for the blue jays but vladdy Jr's 2021 season was outstanding as well and i believe if ohtani didn't pitch vladdy would have won mvp
Lindor this season is an awful pick for greatest non MVP seasons. He had a great season but in almost any other year he wouldn’t be a top 3 MVP candidate. His 2018 season was better than this year and it only got him 6th in MVP.
@nosmith0741 I was thinking Lindor 2024 over Wright, but actually, you're correct here. Gooden finished 4th in MVP vote, even though his *13.3* WAR was so much better than McGee, who was #2 in WAR at 8.2. Plus, Gooden won NL Pitcher's Triple Crown
Schimidt 77 season wasn’t a bad pick, you can make an argument that his 76 was better. Finish 3nd But 1972 Steve Carlton wouobe mine. 27-10, 197 era, 310 k in 346.1 inning, on a last place team
CARLOS DELGADO has been snubbed a few times over his career and with MVP voting. I still don’t get how he didn’t get any respect/recognition with voting.
For the Angels, I think Ohtani 2022 season is better than Trout 2018 season. Ohtani had an OPS+ of 144, WRC+ of 142, an ERA+ of 172, FIP of 2.4 and WHIP of 1.012 and a bwar of 9.6 as a DH (fwar or 9.2). I think he was robbed by Judge (Judge won only due to the home run record imo)
I think Giancarlo Stanton 2014 was a season that could have made this. He led the league in home runs with 37 and slugging percentage. It’s also the year he got hit in the face. He lost to Clayton Kershaw but Stanton had a really good season
Another good pick would be like 5 of Ted Williams’ seasons. He just had beef with the media but clearly should be pushing bonds for the most mvps of all time.
Bergman deserved to win that MVP. Higher BA, OPS was over a thousand, had more RBI, more runs and one more win above replacement than Trout while playing for the best team in baseball. That was a year Trout won simply because he was Mike Trout.
I feel like Delgado's 2000* (or even 2003 season) would been a better pick over Joey Bats. * Carlos hit .344 with 41 homers and 147 rbis, as well as an 1.134 ops
Yankees are a tough one. Ruth was hosed by a stupid rule that made players ineligible for MVP once they had already won it once. Ruth legitimately had an argument he was MVP for about a decade straight. Between him and Gehrig, there are probably something like a dozen or more MVPs they were robbed of.
I'm a huge Tigers fan but Miguel Cabrera winning 2012 and 13 over Mike Trout is crazy. Trout was the better overall player both years and still lost. I get it was historical and it's painful to say but Miggy doesn't deserve either MVP.

Nah. I'd say trout's 10.5 war season where he didn't win mvp would be it. Ohtani's 2022 was insane. But 10.5 war is absurd.

Francisco Lindor this year would be another great pick for the Mets absolutely would've won if it weren't for Ohtani going 50/50 😔
1985 Dwight Gooden is the right choice. The best pitching season of all time deserves an mvp at MINIMUM

How on earth is Ted Williams’ .400 season not on here?
Because Pedro
My pick for the Red Sox might be 2016 mookie Betts, the inverse of the trout pick
The Phillies should have been Utley. It was a year or two after J-Roll won his.
this video should be call "the steroid era player who could be a mvp today"
Mays-You are about 1962 for Mays, but you could have easily said that about 1954, 1957, 1958 and 1964 too.
2002 Barry Bonds stats are insane
1941 Ted Williams
😮
!!!
For the Nationals should have been Soriano 40-40-40. The only player that has ever do it.
Ellis Burks with the Rockies in 96.
dude Aaron Judge 2017
That was definitely in consideration, but Gehrig's season here was so much better overall.
Another braves pick could be Andruw Jones 2005 or Matt Olsen 2023
Cleveland's is Albert Bell in 1995.
Almost went with his!
I’d say 2005 Andruw Jones for the Braves
Pedro didn’t win cause of a petty New York sports journalist who had a vote.
You being a Sox fan do you not choose Ted Williams? wow He legitimately could have won 5 or 6.
Magglio Ordonez 2007
Reds should have been Votto 2017
Redsox shouldve been Ted williams in 1941
Gunnar this year >
Judge 2017
Ozuna 2024
Padres should be 2022 manny machado.
I guess you never heard of Albert Belle and his 1995 season
I lol at your 2003 comment
go look at jimmy rollins mvp season

How 'bout those Cleveland INDIANS!
Citing WAR numbers from prior to the stats existence is kind of irrelevant to the argument, don’t you think?
How so??
I respect your opinion, but my friend, you have to back up your statement.
@@fenwayfaithful You can’t “lead the league in WAR” if it wasn’t tracked in that season. Voters at the time couldn’t consider it. That’s all.
@bryandevito5120 but the stats that make up war didn't change. All of the stats are the same, the math was just worse at that time.
