    This, along with Stephanie Blythe's professional stints as a tenor (and even baritone!), gives me hope as a cis female tenor for a world where voice type is not determined by gender. I have longed to sing tenor roles onstage ("Ah! mes amis" is one of my favorite arias to sing, and all 9 of my high Cs are chesty) but have been afraid to audition for any operas because of my biological/self-identified gender not matching what is typical for my voice type. There are exceptions, such as the titular role in _Platée_ or the Witch in _Hänsel und Gretel,_ but they are very few and far between. On occasions where I've played in percussion ensembles/symphony orchestras with male vocal soloists (all baritones), I have successfully subbed for them in rehearsals with full voice.

      understand that compared to actual tenors, your voice will be light and weak and not heard over the rumble that is a tenor's soaring high c's

      So I understand you are a woman and this is your biological and genetical sex? So why are you giving your pronouns on the profile, like you were trans? I ask because I need to know, as I am seeking the biological (only the biological not self identified) women with voices close to tenor.

    A lot of modern tenors will be very on shame on themselves when compared to her voice power qualities indeed!!

    Ah! Yes! I learned about her because she eventually ended up living and teaching in my hometown Berkeley CA. She is so steady, impassioned, and in control.

    well she is either or both a very extreme deep-low and dark-heavy Dramatic Contralto voice type or rather indeed a true Tenorista/female-Tenor or Sub-Contralto type of voice, very rare lower and AWESOME to exist indeed!!! I think there is some Russian girl singing at that type of voice recently but into pop genre. I think there isn´t anything if there is something done or built for these role type as the voice is so quite rare, though maybe she could have attempted for the Ill-Woman (Die Kranke) role on Schöenberg opera "Mosses und Aaron" as it´s a quite lowest contralto voice type and well all of those lower or true Dramatic Contralto voice roles which appeared from time on time since the second half of 19th centhury as La Cieca from La Gioconda (though may be higher pushing for her voice), Erda and the First (eldest) Norn (Norn of the Past) at Wagner´s Ring Cycle, Gaia, a Dryad and a Voice from Above on Strauss operas and the Zia Principessa on Puccini´s Suor Angellica. (Ulrica part may be very higher for her and also Azucena and Quickly on Verdi´s operas, being closer for mezzo-like types,) And could have done also the role of the Medium - Madame Flora - on Menotti´s opera.

    She is not using any head voice if I heard correct but how it is possible? She has a completely different voice then the other women. Could anyone explain this for me?

    • @crashmat1042
      @crashmat1042 Год назад +7

      Well she is singing quite low. Why would she need head voice in such a low range?

    • @toscadonna
      @toscadonna Год назад +5

      I don’t use head voice until A4/B4 depending on the piece, and in certain pieces like Condotta from Il Trovatore and Acerba Volutta from Andrea Chenier, I pick up the chest voice at D5 due to the heavy orchestra under me at those notes.

    • @arxsyn
      @arxsyn 10 месяцев назад +5

      I can explain this as a Contralto myself.Similar to men Contraltos have the luxury to opt out using their high registers completely because their chest registers are extensive and dominant. As they sing up the scale, their rich voices seem to go on forever. Almost an octave of chest notes to work with, in fact. Welcome to the high notes optional club. This is what makes the Contralto voice unique, and it's also her job title, "against high" translated from the Latin contra-alto. I think there's something similar to that, like haute contre-tenor or something like that, very French. Like the counter-tenor. In my opinion after the F5 note, the Contralto voice sounds thin and weak compared to higher voice types, certainly things start to feel uncomfortably high so it's just better not go past that point
