An old favorite of mine. I started reading his books when I was 11, and NO ONE describes the horrors of war/spies better.
Glad to hear it's an old favorite for you! Alistair MacLean indeed had a remarkable way of capturing the intensity of war and espionage. It's wonderful that his work left a lasting impression on you since such a young age. If you have any other favorites by MacLean or similar authors, feel free to share!
Alistair Maclean is one of my all time favorite authors, but never came across this story before.
I only just read his work, so good 😃

Ah! The nostalgia of audiocassette “print through”!
It’s amazing how the reactions from ones youth returns.
After a while you filter the echoes and pre-echoes out as in days of yore.
Really really enjoying these books.
Yes
I read this book a long time ago - many times. Love the three main characters. They made a movie starring Richard Widmark- a terrible adaptation. It’s great to hear this story. Thanks for the upload
I'm delighted you have a connection with "The Last Frontier"! It's unfortunate when movie adaptations fall short, but I'm glad the audiobook resonates with the essence of the story for you. Thanks for tuning in!
Most films with Mr Widmark were pretty terrible in my opinion 😀
This narrator is incredible!

This opening music sounds like the soundtrack from Lifeforce. :)
Extraordinary. A lot of wisdom here that is very relevant for our Russophobia and the power madness of our child leaders.
Thank you, Elaine! I'm glad you found the audiobook extraordinary. Alistair MacLean's insights do resonate with contemporary issues. Your thoughts on Russophobia and leadership are appreciated.
An overreaction to hate Russians but very wise to fear and distrust the current Russian regime..... perhaps?
Russia is a proven menace to its neighbours. That's why they have, or want to, join NATO.
Look at Ukraine and tell us that our Russophobia isn't justified...
Agree completely, Elaine. An uninformed commenter below asserts the opposite, most likely she has fallen along with so many in the U.S.to the propaganda from the powers-that-be, and does not understand that the conflict to which she refers was started by her own country as another money-making domination scheme of imperialism's last gasp as the fake $USD finally dies.
Good story , but a pity about the crowd in the background , repeating everything !
I appreciate the feedback. Consider checking if there’s an option to adjust the audio settings or if the issue persists.
@@ClassicAudiobooks29 It;s only this particular one that has had this problem so far ..it seems like a close echo at low volume ..
Yeah I have listened to this through smart speaker and headphones(doing a lot of decorating) and the echo is absent on smart speaker, but on headphones it's like listening to this in a room where next door there is a conversation taking place just perceptible but able to catch the odd word.
Yes, the echo following gets worse as the story goes on. I have had to stop listening and hopefully get the book!
I really enjoy Alistair MacLean's books. It is unfortunate, in my opinion, that the movies made from them, are so abysmally bad.
52min…
The echo makes this unlistenable. Shame. Oh, well.
