    These are the tents we used for ftx during my basic training. Guess we were lucky because we where the only cycle to get issued tents.

    I was Army 2006-2011. I never saw these. I did Korea 07-08, Iraq 09-10, and Afghanistan for some time in 2011. This looks kind of neat. Weight as a soldier, well... This is just under one combat load of ammo, 7 mags. That's not miserable.
    I did use shelter halves, old tent poles, and poncho liners in basic training. You use your shelter half and your poncho with one other person's, and use your two wooden tent poles to set up one side. It all snaps together at the top. It's not great, but combined with the 3 piece goretex outer liner sleeping bag, it did work pretty well both in the rain and in the freezing cold. Temperatures hit 10 degrees F overnight and we did okay. Probably 20 during the day. The canvas tent held in heat okay, but the sleeping bag likely did most of the work.
    Lots of 550 cord to get the ponchos over the canvas tent to be waterproof.
    I need to lose some weight, and I plan to take up backpacking. I may pick up an old surplus tent like this.

    Ive been using mine since it was issued in 2001 and i still use it for backpacking on the Appalachian trail here in Pennsylvania in all 4 seasons, i love it myself, you can camp in a swamp with water running down both sides and under it and you will stay completely dry. The tent by the way has mylar sandwiched between the camo to keep the heat in during the winter, as for the weight, ive used the ORC 2 times now to backpack the entire Appalachian trail, its not really that heavy when you consider what it gives you in an advantage.

    I served 11 years in both Navy and Marine Corps as infantry. OIF 2003, Al Kut tour. I relied on tents but it was probably twice the size of this one. The bigger tent in Iraq sucked because of the windy nights. I would have really liked this high speed low drag tent for sure. The sniper platoons used go missions at night and slept during day so this darkened interior of the tent would have come in handy. Man, the best way to catch bluegills are live baits like the worm you are using.

    I like this tent, mine came stinking of piss, filthy with a broken poles and no tent stakes, BUT this tent is worth it, washed and nik waxed it was like a new tent again. I also love the blackout feature especially when you are solo camping, it gives you peace of mind that you are not going to be seen.

      Did u happen to get one with a flakie rain fly and was it still useful even tho is had a flakie top ? I’m debating to send it back or not because of this I assume because they are issued that your not gonna get a “new new” one correct ?

    Difference is against other brands
    This is Extra Heavy duty, that will out last the commercial brands, that dont have the build in Grunt proof rating.

    Pretty sure anyone after this as a bug out bag tent will appreciate the blackout and concede the extra 2 pounds. This is the kind of tent crazy RUclipsrs like Steve would use in a blizzard or ice storm. Can't wait for mine to arrive, just gotta figure out how I'm gonna hang my UCO candle lantern for light.

      Lol funny, the ORC ics has a loop in each corner and one in the middle for a lantern, just nobody seems to know or notice it for some reason 😂

      @@WeShootBack1776 Mine arrived totally destroyed, the floor stuck to the walls and the most UNGODLY sticky residue I've ever seen. I fixed it best I could, used coco core (think brown dust) and coated it to knock out the sticky. It's grainy inside, but in an emergency it IS usable. Better than just tossing it. I moved on to to the One Tigris Tetra large though.

    Is the vestibule big enough to cook in with a compact stove ? It is heavy I agree under 2kg would be better , but for what you can pick these up for I don’t think there is much of the quality, I found. Few under 2kg but twice the price , did you replace it with something lighter as I see this vid is a few years old now . TIA

  • @sjstevenson85
    @sjstevenson85 7 месяцев назад

    As far as the ventilation issue goes i suggest you check out the US Army TCOP. It has bug net on the rear vestibule door to allow you to open it up and keep bugs out. Nice cross ventilation.

      I saw that too, BUT, did you notice that gave him a HUGE advantage? He could use all of that mesh for ventilation...in the rain without getting wet.

      I'm thinking camo net from Amazon is a good buy for this

    Not heavy at all in my thoughts just a great tent! too bad you did not find it adequate for your excursions; however it is definitely grunt proof, and that may not appeal to everyone.

    Got the tent used no holes but smells like chemicals lol I love it though it's got enough space for my miniature field desk to write reports and stuff definitely worth it.

    • @turtlewolfpack6061
      @turtlewolfpack6061 Год назад +1

      @@phil2082 depends on the canvas, it is naturally hydrophobic but most has some form of treatment such as oil or wax which makes it 100% waterproof.

    Let's say it's RAINI
    NG LIKE HELL when you're trying to set up this tent. Yeah, the inner tent gets soaking wet BEFORE you get the fly on.! NOT a goos system. I like Tarptent tents. MADE IN USA and can be set up FLY AND INNER TENT TOGETHER so no getting the inner wet!

    • @plrinternetmarketing
      @plrinternetmarketing Год назад

      I'm 6'3, 240LBS and I have lots of room! This was my concern as well. Plus the way it tapers leaves you with about a foot and a half of room above your head to store canteen, lantern, food, etc. Hands down my favorite 1 man tent! Also worth noting, it claims to be a 3 season tent, but it is definitely 4 season. The walls are thick (thanks to the blackout material) it does weigh 7 LBS though which might be a deal breaker for some people. I plan to buy a second one only because I can't stand the thought of wearing this one out eventually and not being able to find another one in new condition. I paid $150 Canadian for one in like new condition)

    You can't live in it. You can't cook in it. Etc.
    You can bearly sit up in it .
