This isn't said nearly enough. But, thank you to the writers on this channel. Simon's in a position to edit out the "rougher" parts of these scripts (on camera). However, that doesn't change your experiences in researching the cases (i.e. reading police reports, coming across photos and audio, etc...). Make sure you're taking care of your mental well being too.
@@MGscribe Correct me if I'm wrong, but you wrote the Moors Murderers episode right? If so...I hope you had a nice strong drink with you while researching that.
@@MGscribe I havent finished this one yet, but now I'm thinking I should wait til I get home and pour myself something strong! A friend of mine, who apparently thinks very highly of me, said I should try writing for one of these channels. My response was A- These guys are professionals B- These guys research much more than I'd be able to handle. You guys are great, its just hard to keep track of which writer wrote what when (5 Ws!) im just binging these.
Honestly the next compilation should be Simon bringing up Pedro Lopez in every episode and the evolution of tone and comments he makes. It would be brilliant
I showed my girlfriend the Pedro Lopez video a couple weeks ago and told her about Simon's obsession with him ever since. I now update her on how long it takes him to mention Pedro in every new video and its a small piece of joy in our every day lives.
The tiny, innocent fears of toddlers. Well, *normal* toddlers. I told Mom about remembering being on a row boat on a lake with funny tables with umbrellas on them on the shore and wondering what'd happen if the boat tipped over. How would the life-jacket know which end was supposed to stay up? What if it held me upside down and I couldn't breath? Apparently, I was *two* at the time.
It's been a few months since I recorded this and now all she wants is to blow bubbles or for me to blow bubbles for her, and she gets disappointed when they aren't big enough. 💞
@@larryclemens1850 What two days would those be? In my head, it's over for them after they kill their first person and realize that: 1. They enjoy it 2. They can get away with it
@@similaritiesendhere Serial killers usually (not always) start by killing on different days - otherwise they are usually termed mass or spree killers.
@@larryclemens1850 If you're arguing that the difference between serial/mass/spree killers is how many they kill divided by how quickly they're discovered and stopped (deaths per hour), I find distinction pointless. For example, I don't think the Club Q shooter would turn down the opportunity to shoot up multiple night clubs over several days/weeks/months if it were possible.
I’d love to see an episode on Yoshie Shiratori, a Japanese man who escaped prison several times. It’s a great story and would give Simon a break from serial killer stories.
I once screamed "You're not my Mom, STRANGER STRANGER!" to my Mom in a store... because she wouldn't by me candy. She was so pissed, had to pull out pictures and everything in front of the cops. I'm 36 now and I still feel bad for that.
My daughter when she was really bad in a store once, I went to leave just to get her out of there, she was about 3 and as we left she started screaming, "Help me! Somebody please help me!" I was like omg...cause here I am a blonde lady dragging this kid who looks Hispanic from a store screaming for help. It looked so bad!
Was at Walmart with my stepson (6) the other day and a worker commented on how good he was “helping mom” and he turned to her and yelled “SHE IS NOT MY MOM” like buddy you can’t say that people are going to think I stole you 😂😂
I screamed "I just want to mommy." when I was left in the city centre with my dad, that someone called the police. To my defence, he was abusive, and I was really scared to be alone with him.
my cousin actually did scream “you’re not my dad” to HIS DAD because he didnt want to leave the play park, so the people who were there were alarmed and one said “ok I’m gonna call the police” one woman wanted to pick him up, which resulted in my cousin running away from that woman towards my uncle screaming “dad help!” and yeah…my uncle lost like 5 kg of sweat that day 😅
It is pleasing to see Simon's progression from "I don't believe in the Death Penalty" to "Shank him in prison" to finally "STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR! STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR! STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR!".
About strangers abducting children, a friend who worked in child services once told me that if your child has a weak stomach telling them to throw up on prospective abductors can help as most people can’t stand having vomits on them. I don’t know if this would be helpful or just make the bad guy madder but it’s always stayed with me.
Yeah I've heard that, along with telling women to piss themselves if they're about to be raped. Don't how factual the advise is, but I guess it makes some sense
This saved me as a kid. A guy at the park had a knife and tried to make me go in the bushes with him. I vomited. And he let go. He had me by the scruff of my neck and tore my collar. Oddly that was a good thing because it was what made grown ups believe me. Especially since I was technically being watched by a babysitter. She didn't want to get in trouble. And it happened fast. Another kid in the spring in that park was not so lucky.
It probably is helpful. A few years ago I had to travel for work, by bus, a long distance (8+hours) and arrive at a city that wasn't very populated. My boyfriend at the time who is a veteran gave me the advice to pee and/or poo myself if I was attacked/kidnapped.
Trying to disgust predators into leaving you alone isn't the worst idea I've heard. Better than complying with someone who wants to do you harm at least. Could be good for creating an opening to flee.
Simon seems to forget the early traits of serial killers tends to include arson in their childhood. And, in California at least, arson regularly causes wildfires that kill people, destroy entire towns, burns millions of acres of forest, and costs billions of dollars in property damge. I think that puts it up there as a pretty horrific crime.
Rule #3 of screenwriting: Viewers don't care if random humans are killed, might cry if a main character dies, but will never forgive you if you kill an animal, especially a dog.
What you say is true, but proves just how few people will survive the next apocalypse. There are few things more dangerous to humans than packs of feral dogs.
@@leeneufeld4140 To be fair, in screenwriting it's never some feral dog, rabid, roving in dangerous packs, or anything like that. It's always a beloved pet, which makes people think about their own beloved pets being in a similar situation. There's a big difference between a pack of wild dangerous canines, and my individual, tame, perpetual-toddler of a doggo who I love very much, you know?
In an interview with Stephen King, he said the most hate letters he ever got was for killing the dog in the beginning of The Twilight Zone. He also mentioned that he knew it would be an effective way for everyone to start hating the main villain from the beginning. (If someone needs more info, the guy worked as a door to door Bible salesman and the dog bit him, or tried, and he kicked the dog to death. Mr.King told this to Stephen Colbert but probably mentioned it in other interviews too)
I work as a first responder, and whenever there is anything with a child and adult, I always ask the child who the adult is, both what the relationship is, and their name. Then I ask the adult for ID. I feel like that is a pretty good way to make sure they do belong together.
When I was in middle school I wrote a presentation for my German class about Dusseldorf and included an entire section off of this guy! I'm sure my German teacher wasn't weirded out at all lol I was super into true crime as a kid because I wanted to be a forensic scientist.
i didn´t know about this one... i was born in düsseldorf and still live there, but never heared about this dude. i spend time at all the places mentioned in the video and live within walking distance of one of the prisons he was send to. creeps me out... still have goosebumps
@@Sniperboy5551 unfortunately I did not because I was never quite sure how to get into it and since guidance counselors (at least at my school) were useless I never got help figuring out the path I needed to take to get into it. So I ended up as a software developer with a true crime obsession instead lol
Half an hour in and I'm trying to remember that warm and fuzzy place where Simon was telling us the cute story about his daughter having bubble nightmares... It seems so far away now...
I mean...yeah, it would be. Sure, scissors can be sharp, but unless you open them, only the tip is sharp. The rest isn't nearly as sharp and has to be forced in.
Quick story to lighten the mood. When my cousin was 5ish, my mom had taken him shopping for a Christmas gift for his mom (my mom's sister). He got mad at her about something and ran away from, resulting in my mom chasing a little boy through the mall while he screamed "You're not my mom". My cousin is now an adult with children of his own and still feels so bad about it that he apologizes to her at every family get together
I am shocked by the number of children who spitefully yelled at their parents, “You’re not my mom/dad.” As a child, I was taught to yell, “You’re not my mom/dad,” if a stranger tried to take me. It never once occurred to me to weaponize that. I swear, every time I hear about kids misbehaving, I want to call up my parents and remind them that I was an amazing kid and they were completely unappreciative lol
Fun fact: I used to scream "you're not my mom/dad" at my actual parents in public a LOT when I was a kid. I wasn't trying to be manipulative, I legitimately thought that they got body-snatched by some creature, cause my REAL mom would have gotten me that toy at the store. 😂
Lowkey this is why the idea of having kids scare me. Kids will say anything (usually not to purposely get their parent in trouble but still) and with the state of people's fears about kidnappers rn idk if I could mentally handle having people accuse me of kidnapping my own kid just because my kid randomly decided to scream that I'm not their mom 😅
That was a rough one to get through, up there with Pedro Lopez for me. His life, his upbringing, the things he did to kids and animals, just on a whole different level.
We were taught to scream every bad word we knew while saying "This is not my parent" because a child shouting "mother f***ers this is not my parent" gets attention.
YES! I actually taught this to my baby niece, and once a strange man approached her while my back was turned in Walmart away from the cart for a second. In all her 4 year old glory, she said, “FUCK FACE.” and that got my attention and everyone elses. Dude backed off FAST.
Hey Simon, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your work on this channel (and the others, but in particular this one). You describing my childhood and saying "this is how criminals are made" really opened my eyes, and made it much easier to seek mental help. I can't express this through text well, but thank you. Seriously, thank you.
Wow!!! That was a hard one to get through. I know the research.. writing and reading had to have been rough. Thank u Matt and Simon... You both are appreciated...
Easily the sickest psycho killer of all time? What made him so scary is that he looked so harmless. A great job by everyone involved, and as ever, a great commentary by Simon
I just started the video but isn’t this the guy who started killing other kids for fun when he was just a child? I mean that’s pretty high on the psycho scale whether he looked normal or not.
I wouldn't say he looked harmless... obviously let's discount the -hitler- CHARLIE CHAPLIN mustache, but aside from that this was someone with a checkered past even from that day's standards. Few to none of the pieces in his early life individually make him look suspicious unless you were a judgmental person, but all together? Serial runaway, "gee whenever Petey visits the house my animals get mangled", junior high dropout, burglary on his record, so on... Even if wartime was imminent I'm surprised they dragged him into the military. Especially given the history of his father raping his sister. I'd hope it wouldn't reflect on his reputation for everyone to just assume he's just like his father (even though he was), but surely even in a time when mental health barely mattered it wouldn't be wise to enlist a most likely traumatized person. What did they call being traumatized back then? I can't recall, but it wasn't good! _How did he possibly have a squeaky clean reputation and look harmless?_ How did he get enlisted?? I'm very puzzled by both questions!
I love that Simon does the knuckly thing to tell how many days are in the month. That's what I've always done to and that's the first time I've ever seen anyone else do it. Nice!
Honesty is best, Simon. Don't try to present yourself other than honestly. The difference is glaringly obvious, and part of why this channel works is because you are clearly sickened by the criminals and clearly sympathetic to the victims. It helps us,the audience, see the victims and survivors as the heroes and the slime mold criminals for the broken cowards they are.
I was having the same thought while watching this. If Simon wanted to bail on this and just create the super fun happy channel, I would be all for that. That being said, as long as these videos are still around, I'll probably keep watching them.
Right? I really want to tell him to have the writers tone it down a hair, maybe do some more heists. (SIMON! GET SOMEONE TO DO THE KANGAROO GANG! London, 1960s.)

You brought back a long list childhood memory. I was in the bus with my mom and started having a fit. I yelled "you aren't my mom" at her and it was like time and sound just stopped and suddenly EVERYONE was looking at us. A man stepped in between she and I and my mom craned her neck around him to growl "I'm gonna paint your back porch RED." A nice old lady behind me started cackling "that's her baby!". I was a horrible ass kid. Everything got sorted out, my mom actually thanked the guy and I got the "renovation" to my backside that she promised. Hadn't thought about that in 30 years until Simon said "you aren't my mum" 🤣
Glad to inform you that there are no more dog catchers in Germany. Stray dogs are taken care of, at shelters, with volunteers and hopefully, one day, a forever home. They are certainly not killed anymore these days. 🐕
I hate to inform you, but there still are kill shelters when they get over populated starting by putting down the animals they’ve sheltered the longest. It’s because there is a HUGE pet overpopulation problem from people not spaying or neutering their pets. Though, you are correct that there are many shelters that have teamed up to shuffle the animals around so they have a better chance of getting adopted.
Was part of a well meaning dog chase twice. one was a pitbull mix, way too thin and I could not make it stay with a steak. white, with some bloody spots. the other was a wolfhound i think. coarse long gray hair. bloody too and fast. that's too many random abused dogs to just show up in front of me really
@@HavianEla You're welcome. German animal welfare organisations also rescue dogs from being killed in other countries where that is still allowed. Those dogs are then often adopted by people in Germany. Dogs are very popular pets in Germany. It can get a bit out of hand sometimes... there actually are bakeries solely selling dog cookies, believe it or not. On the other hand, people now carry plastic bags along when they take their dogs out, to scoop up their dogs' p** and throw it in a public bin. 💩 - Going waaaay off topic here. Sorry, Mr Whistler. 😬
The authorities dissecting his brain to look for a cause for his urges reminds me of Charles Whitman, the first school shooter to really make the news back in 1966. I won't spoil it too much in case one of Simon's writers decides to write an episode on him, but Kinky Friedman's song about him has the chorus "There was a rumor, about a tumor, nestled at the base of his brain ... The doctors tore, his poor brain down, not a smidge of illness could be found"
PL was a rough one, probably the most difficult, to get through. I stuck with it only because I feel the victims deserved to have their stories heard. You did such a good job with it, considering the topic and the horror. I agree, it's just not one you get over and you had to read it, reading stays with me longer than listening. I love your tangents and when you talk about your kids, it gives light in the dark subject matter of these stories. It doesn't make then "enjoyable" but it helps make then tolerable.
Peter Kürten is the only killer I’ve met face to face…that I know of, anyway. I remember going to the museum back in the 90s and seeing that head on a meat hook. Definitely the most morbid and memorable part of the trip. About a decade ago, the museum had a reworking and I thought it was gone, but it’s still there. A secret entrance in a “fireplace” labeled “The Darker Side of Ripley’s” leads you to a staircase that houses some of the more controversial exhibits of the Dells location, including a recreation of Elizabeth Bathory bathing in blood, an executioner’s axe, and - yes - Kürten himself.
I don’t think that guy deserves a life sentence, honestly. Yeah he said he’d do it again if he had another willing victim and still fantasizes about consuming human flesh, but he isn’t really a cold-blooded murderer in my eyes because his victim wanted to die and tried to eat his own c**k with him… idk it seems like that should be considered manslaughter at best…
This case is really crazy. The justice system was struggling with this case, simply because they did not know how to proceed in a case where someone consented to being eaten. Is it illegal? Is it not?
My daughter once insisted I wasn't her mom. She wanted to stay and play, but It was time to leave. Thankfully she suddenly yelked: ' you're not my mom, Mom!'. Relieved laughter all round and we were permitted to leave.
The only way to make any story you know about better is watching Simon's expressions as he reacts to it. Wishing the whole CasCrim gang a great start of the week!
Serial killer: at least 3 single victims, all on separate occasions. This is why spree- and mass- killers don't get called serial killers, no matter how many victims they have.
Matt refers to what is called the homicidal triad. It used to be used frequently by profilers, but it kind of faded out I think, due to the last one. It consisted of torturing animals, setting fires, and bedwetting. The last one sounds odd, but kids who experience trauma that affects them a great deal will often start wetting the bed (a random start of it after a child being potty trained is an indicator that something may be very wrong). Child abuse is most likely what Matt is using now though. But back when it was created, a lot of people were a bit abusive compared to today's standards.
@@TheLegPumpkin for some serial killers there can be an argument for that, but it is rare. The reason for this is because the kind of killers that come from multiple blows to the head are similar to people who have CTE, which we can only definitively prove after death currently (though I believe you can see some signs that there is a chance they have it with an MRI machine now, but it isn't definitive). So these killers would only kill because of sudden outbursts of violence, an increase in rage (kind of like roid rage, and there are other medical issues than can cause that jump to disproportionate violence), ect. They are generally viewed as just very violent people who murdered multiple people and technically fall under the umbrella of serial killer due to numbers if it is just head trauma alone. What makes a serial killer like this, and any other famous one that ends up with a story about them, is that they have other aspects to the crime. Taking trophies is a big one, impulsive acts done to the person (like an uncontrollable need to do something unnecessary before they are done killing them before they have completed their violent act, like tie them up a very specific way or bury them a specific way) during or after the murder, killing someone the some way everytime, sticking with the same type of victim (which is why they struggled to connect the murders in this case), ect. Recently there was an MMA fighter who went on a killing spree, if I remember correctly. I don't remember all of the details, but he would probably be closer to what you are asking about.
@@darkermatter125.35 think i know the MMA fighter one you're talking about and the tragic thing is he killed his wife and child before himself. i don't want to say "thank god it was only them" because it's still pretty bad and leading up to it, there were reports of domestic violence, but he didn't go on a murder spree or anything like that. but yeah, it is basically along the lines of that roid rage-esque thing (in fact, in addition to all his head trauma, the guy had a drug issue re: steroids, so probably compounded like that)
@@jevana A lot of people who play football/box/do mma (and the military) end up being in altercations of some sort, whether it is fights with other competitors, fights at bars/other strangers, or domestic abuse. CTE mimics roid rage a lot, except roid rage causes depression, paranoia, anxiety, even psychosis. CTE goes along the route of dementia, and there are mood disorders and behavioral issues that come up. In the beginning it makes you more of a risk taker, which often leads to more brain trauma. So while both cause sudden outbursts of disproportionate anger, and sometimes violence, the toot of why becomes different, especially as time goes on.
Thank you Simon. I’m just about to go to bed and was hoping for a new one to listen to. Then I saw this was published 12 minutes ago. 🎉. I’m not the only one who listens to these in the dark, right?
As someone with a blood kink, I'd like to say that there's a big difference between having an innocent kink and one you're willing to hurt people for. If the person I was with was suffering and didn't like it, it wouldnt be fun anymore because a person's well-being is way more important than sexual gratification. My partner is pretty vanilla and I would never try to force them to participate in my freakishness because the whole point of sex is GOOD feelings
I like blood 🩸 I want to do artwork 🖼 with 🩸 blood. Problem - they won’t let me. Probably because I have mental health issues. They should still let me do it. But they won’t and they don’t. Damn
Plus on the subject you can get like substitutes for that kink like you can get fake blood or food coloring etc and make it look like it without having to harm yourself or harm someone else and have it be just as gratifying, you can have a kink like that and act on it without having to do any physical harm to anyone, there is a total difference in that most people act accordingly and want to have everyone involved feel comfortable etc.
Ugh, this one is going to give me nightmares. Need to purge this knowledge with something pure and noble. Thank you for not reading the whole bit at 35:20. I appreciate you trying to save us from some of this horror. While I find these stories morbidly fascinating, I really don't need every mind-scaring detail to get the whole picture.
I was taught the "not my mom, not my dad" thing as a kid and immediately tried it when my grandmother wouldn't buy me a toy at a store I wanted. She was at least smart enough to loudly respond "no, i'm not your mom. I'm your grandma, and I'm not buying you that."
God this was disturbing! I’ve heard of this case but nothing as detailed as this. I really appreciate your reactions because it’s hard to hear this kind of thing delivered coolly. Phenomenal work Simon🖤
Simon, I've been binge-watching your channels (particularly the Casual Criminalist, which I think is my favorite) this past week while laid up in bed with a broken ankle, & I just wanted to say thank you for providing me with so much brilliant content! It has certainly helped tremendously in lifting my spirits & keeping me entertained. I was literally just thinking, "I should ask him if he'd do an episode on Peter Kurten, I bet it would be great for this channel" when this episode came on! 😂 Great minds think alike! I was just re-reading Peter Kurten's Wikipedia article the other day, & my goodness, the absolutely convoluted way this man finally got caught & brought to justice... I swear, it's the best example of truth being stranger than fiction I've ever seen in my life.
There's a significant difference between hurting a person who consents and desires to be hurt in inconsequential ways, and maiming a person who has not consented, does not desire to be harmed.
You know, I'd like CasCrim to tackle Jesse Pomeroy, the Boy Fiend of Boston. Takes place just post civil war, should be good for Simon. Aka The Demon. He is literally the kid from The Omen irl.
The survival rate of kids back them was not even close to what it is now. The reason people would have like 10 per family is because it was already expected that a couple wouldn't make it. It may not be the case that the parents didn't care as much, but they definitely were more used to it.

Never be surprised that serial killers are found "sane" in court (really "mentally culpable or responsible" would be more accurate). Serial killers almost invariably lie and cover up their crimes, meaning they grasp that their acts are wrong on some level, even if it's just that society would frown on their acts. Horrifying kink and broken moral sense are not legal insanity. To be insane as a serial killer would require some kind of severe disassociation or an overwhelming delusion over weeks without anyone noticing while still being compotent enough to carry out complicated acts in different times and places. This combination is nearly impossible to pull off in the real world. Spree killers can be legally insane, but serial killers have to function too much in society to be legally insane.
I read about a man who was recently executed in the south (US). People tried to argue he wasn't mentally competent since he had schizophrenia. However, when I read how he killed his 9 month old daughter (I won't type it...too depressing) I thought 2 things: 1 how did he last in prison 20 years and 2 no more internet for the day. What stuck with me is he had been to prison before because he abused his older son. No allegedly needed since he was convicted. The fact that he had at least 1 more child and killed her makes me sick.
That isn't necassarily accurate; there are dozens of serial killers who were deemed insane (usually with schizophrenia) and put into psychiatric institutions instead of prisons.
One time at my elementary school a guy went up and told my classmate that his mom had sent him to pick him up and LUCKILY the school principal was always there to check we all went with our parents/guardians and she called the kid's parents and I don't remember what happened later but the principal is my hero to this day!
I have seen the head of Kurten in Wisconsin. I saw it about 20 years ago and while I already knew who Kurten was (yeah, true crime), I didn't know his head was in that attraction (its Ripley's, calling it a museum is giving it too much credit) so when I walked around the corner and saw it, it was a bit of a shock.
simon, i relate to your kid, because when i was little i was obsessed with eating marshmallows, but would have nightmares about being eaten by a giant one every time i had them xD
Fun fact but I think the original expression was, “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”. I never get a chance to tell anyone when it’s used so I’m doing it now. Heavy episode but well presented
it's similar with the jack of all trades. often seen as someone that can't do anything fully, but the complete saying goes "jack of all trades master of none, but better than a master of one"
There are psychopaths, there are depraved serial killers, but that guy was truly something else. Not anywhere near a record for the most killings, but truly sadistic.
Dude, Pedro really got to you aye... I get it. That episode was a real tough one to get through for me too. But I've managed to push him, and a lot of it out my head. Seems like he has taken up a permanent residency in yours though man. That sucks 😞
Fun fact for Fact Boi, the actual quote goes something like "the blood of companionship is thicker than the waters of the womb" it was originally intended as a "you choose your family" quote rather than a "you have to be unquestionably loyal to family regardless of the shit they do" quote.
Sorry Simon, I couldn't do it. This was the first time I've ever had to turn off one of your video's but this one was just a bit much for me(which is so weird because I listen to true crime podcasts and videos all day long). I think it was the animals that did it. Anyway, otherwise love your work 😁
I can’t tell you how excited I was to see you count the days of the months on your knuckles!!! Most people I mention it to look at me like I’m the psycho. 😂
Just as I was saying to my husband that I'm surprised you can still come up with serial killers I haven't heard of, you mention Wisconsin Dells, right down the road from my house. Maybe I'll go gawk at ole Peter...
I'm not sure Simon can handle an in-depth look into Albert Fish. In order to know what happened to Grace Bud, one must rely on the letter Fish sent the Bud family afterward. I think the letter also helped catch him, so it's too important to just gloss over. The content isn't meant for a father to a little girl to read.
The whole bubbles thing at the beginning had me thinking I remember when I was a little kid I used to have a reoccurring nightmare about giant ants (I watched the Honey I shrunk the kids VHS tape too much I think)
Three in a row! Holy crap! Thanks boss! Honestly though yall…this one hurt…like a lot. A monster in every single way. Hope you all have a good time. All comments and criticisms are welcomed! (Edit: many apologies for the couple of typos, hate when I miss shit lol)
Wow Matt, are you ok after researching that vile human being? Apart from the subject matter, I absolutely love your storytelling style! I’m really looking forward to your next script. Thank you for the hard work you put in, you, Simon & Jen make an epic team 👌
Matt... take care of yourself too bro. Seriously. Your job requires you to stare into the abyss. It will stare back into you and start affecting your daily life. Make sure to compartmentalize your work from life and remember that there Is good in humanity. A rule of thumb, for every hour spent researching something horrible, spend at least 15 minutes watching or listening to something truly wholesome. I don't want to hear one day "casual criminalist writer found roaming the streets in the nude muttering about writing down crimes and bubbles" on the news. Be well friend
Another thing I taught my kids was playing the “What if” game. “What if someone asks you to help them find their puppy?” Or “What if someone is asking for directions or ask you to help them put their mail in the mail box that is right there?” Also, if an older child was accompanying a younger child, I would ask “Who do you leave the park, etc with?” saying that they only leave the park with whom they came with.
We've seen Simon go from morally questioning the death penalty to "HANG HIM! STRING HIM UP! PUT HIM IN THA CHAAAAAIR" We've seen Simon go from "he killed a kid. Yeah, that's bad, this guy's a monster" to "Now that I'm a father, I get it. This is the worst person and I hate this" I know Simon doesn't believe in it, but let's all put the will out into the universe that his kids insist on a dog enough that he gets a family dog. Then we can see him go from "I'm not a dog person" to "I get John Wick now. I get it." I'm going to further hope the dog, despite being adopted for the kids, bonds most strongly with Simon himself!

I'm thinking: If Simon hated what Pedro López did THAT much (which is a completely reasonable reaction), I'm guessing he's going to have a neurotic attack once he realizes someone called Luis Garavito exists. He may not have as many victims as López, but the depravity is... yikes. I have a really, really high tolerance for violence and gore, but Garavito is just a whole another Beast.

Simon’s daughter being afraid of bubbles is so precious. Honestly, being surrounded by bubbles 🫧 and possibly getting one in my eye sounds terrifying.
She would hate The Dirty Bubble from SpongeBob SquarePants. 😁
Or maybe she's going "no, bubbles, no!" because she doesn't want the bubbles to go and they keep popping? Still precious, though.
It's been a few months since I recorded this and now all she wants is to blow bubbles or for me to blow bubbles for her, and she gets disappointed when they aren't big enough. 💞

It's amazing how many serial killers have parents who were probably just one bad day away from becoming serial killers themselves.
Two days really.
@@larryclemens1850 What two days would those be? In my head, it's over for them after they kill their first person and realize that:
1. They enjoy it

You know how Simon says to check yourself if you notice yourself acting evil...
If I had ever tried saying my mom was not my mom everyone would've laughed at me because I look so much like her.
I just wanted to say that it's much appreciated how you keep out the most gruesome details and how you remember the victims.
my cousin actually did scream “you’re not my dad” to HIS DAD because he didnt want to leave the play park, so the people who were there were alarmed and one said “ok I’m gonna call the police” one woman wanted to pick him up, which resulted in my cousin running away from that woman towards my uncle screaming “dad help!” and yeah…my uncle lost like 5 kg of sweat that day 😅
I love that quick change of tune 😂
The way he didn't think it that far through 😭
It is pleasing to see Simon's progression from "I don't believe in the Death Penalty" to "Shank him in prison" to finally "STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR! STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR! STRAP EM IN THE CHAIR!".
let's see when he moves towards "and make it a slow and painful one"
Even if your kid has a weak stomach if you think “throw up on command” is a good strategy, you shouldn’t have or be in charge of any children EVER.
How bad of a crime arson is completely depends on where you do it
Rule #3 of screenwriting: Viewers don't care if random humans are killed, might cry if a main character dies, but will never forgive you if you kill an animal, especially a dog.

@@leeneufeld4140 To be fair, in screenwriting it's never some feral dog, rabid, roving in dangerous packs, or anything like that.

I just started the video but isn’t this the guy who started killing other kids for fun when he was just a child? I mean that’s pretty high on the psycho scale whether he looked normal or not.
@@barrydingall indeed he was. To say his brain was slightly squiffy from an early age is a teeny bit of an understatement
I'm 15 minutes in, and not sure I'm going to be able to finish. This is... horrifying. Way worse than Pedro Lopez.

Honesty is best, Simon. Don't try to present yourself other than honestly.

Absolutely love how Simon's Personality comes out so well on this channel. I love how he says what we are all thinking.
There are very few episodes that make me feel sick and even fewer where Simon refuses to read what's written.
A great episode, well done.
Speaking of German cannibals I hope Simon does one about Armin Meiwes. Apparently the guy he killed consented to being eaten.
"Yeah cops.. he said I could eat him.'
@@Sniperboy5551 I agree
O.O I genuinely remember this a real life case of voluntary vore, that one was batshit.

A lot of times serial killers have had severe head wounds as well, is there a chance it ties in with impulse control?
@@darkermatter125.35 think i know the MMA fighter one you're talking about and the tragic thing is he killed his wife and child before himself. i don't want to say "thank god it was only them" because it's still pretty bad and leading up to it, there were reports of domestic violence, but he didn't go on a murder spree or anything like that. but yeah, it is basically along the lines of that roid rage-esque thing (in fact, in addition to all his head trauma, the guy had a drug issue re: steroids, so probably compounded like that)
@@jevana Chris Benoit

For someone with a nickname that sounds like a character from Harry Potter, the Vampire of Düsseldorf is surprisingly horrifying.
JK’s Closet Cadavers are comparable in their pestilent horror.
@ InquisitorXarius oh the inferi yeah no kidding
The idea that parents didn't get close to their children or get as upset with their deaths back in the day is a MYTH.
The survival rate of kids back them was not even close to what it is now. The reason people would have like 10 per family is because it was already expected that a couple wouldn't make it. It may not be the case that the parents didn't care as much, but they definitely were more used to it.
Thanks bud I guess I’ll just take your word for it 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
@@richardtherichard26 I never expected you to. I did a lot of research for a thesis paper before I came to this conclusion. Here's a more recent paper on children, illness, and death -- Myth Two is particularly relevant. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4330552/
@@godsrevolver9737 Also birth control wasn't a thing.
Thank you, I scrolled and scrolled hoping someone set Simon straight while there was still a chance of him seeing this, GOOD ON YOU.
That has a completely different meaning, crazy!
it's similar with the jack of all trades. often seen as someone that can't do anything fully, but the complete saying goes "jack of all trades master of none, but better than a master of one"
There are psychopaths, there are depraved serial killers, but that guy was truly something else. Not anywhere near a record for the most killings, but truly sadistic.
One downside to the "you're not my mom/dad" thing is the step-parent role. When kids have outbursts, they'll be screaming that.
I once visited that Ripley's and saw that head. Never knew the story behind it. Love to have that connected.
Dude just walking around stabbing people like he's playing GTA irl
40:32-40:42 the gears are spinning and I’m here for it!!! I love that Jen actually zoomed in on you trying to figure it out by hand 🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰
You're not going to get cancelled. Stop giving them power over you, and others.
This is one of the few episodes where I check the video and exclaim "Why isn't it over yet!?"
I remember hearing about this guy for the first time on a podcast. His story seemed so f*
I love how he says "is it Dusseldorf" or "Duseldorf" and they're both wrong 😭😂
Dude, Pedro really got to you aye... I get it. That episode was a real tough one to get through for me too. But I've managed to push him, and a lot of it out my head. Seems like he has taken up a permanent residency in yours though man. That sucks 😞
The fact that he got away is really the icing on the proverbial death cake.
@@GimmeJimmy23 Yeah, sickens me to the core knowing that he got away.
I was not prepared for this today.
Well, still gonna eat this here tortellini.
The reason arson is classified as equally bad is because it's one of the signs of a future serial killer.
The evolution of Simon is fascinating
I'm going to have to listen to this one in phases, Matt.
Luis Garavito...that guy has one-upped Pedro Lopez in terms of body count !!!
Wow Matt, are you ok after researching that vile human being? Apart from the subject matter, I absolutely love your storytelling style! I’m really looking forward to your next script. Thank you for the hard work you put in, you, Simon & Jen make an epic team 👌
"rather grim" doesn't really cover it. Well written, even though (or because of it) it was horrible to listen to
Matt... take care of yourself too bro.
PUT HIM IN THA CHAAAAAIR"
We've seen Simon go from "he killed a kid. Yeah, that's bad, this guy's a monster" to "Now that I'm a father, I get it. This is the worst person and I hate this"
I know Simon doesn't believe in it, but let's all put the will out into the universe that his kids insist on a dog enough that he gets a family dog.
Then we can see him go from "I'm not a dog person" to "I get John Wick now. I get it." I'm going to further hope the dog, despite being adopted for the kids, bonds most strongly with Simon himself!
I literally do the SAME thing with counting the months on your knuckles, I grew up in Florida, so it made me smile that people in other countries do it too. Love your videos, I follow a lot of your channels and this and decoding the unknown are probably my favorite. As morbid as this channel is xD
The light moment was watching Simon get OCD over the possible dates, classic defense mechanism.
I've been to that Ripley's! But at the time, I had no idea how horrifying he was.
Simon, I’ve watched hundreds of your videos. I got 14 minutes into this one and couldn’t listen any longer. Just switched over to Decoding the Unknown.
