Technically Alteisen is just a bad Gespenst. When the Alt needs to close in to deal damage a standard Gespenst can just shoot a Neutron Beam at range for the same damage. It is just Kyosuke being one hell of a pilot to overcome the weight of Alt and use it to build up speeds for precision ambush instead.
@@abc2390986 Not quite. The PTX 003, or Gespenst Mk 1 Type T that the Alteisen was based on, WAS a faulty prototype. It was suposed to be a ground combat unit, but it lacked the armor and the acceleration needed to just do that, so it was scraped and they went back to the PTX 001 for the next generation Gespenst. The Alteisen is the realized form of the 003, having enough armor, acceleration, speed and weapons to do what it was suposed to do, blitzkrieg tacticsd where the robot punches through the enemy lines, destroy everyone around them and go back without taking too much damage. The problem is, not many pilots can actually pull that, and it's not just a matter of skill. The mentality for that kind of tactics (gambling on your skill and the armor of your mecha to survive) and the capacity to endure the g-forces that the Alteisen inflicts on the pilot makes it so, at the time the Alteisen begins to be used, there is exactly ONE pilot with the right CV, Kyosuke, although later Arado would show the required traits (except for skill, but that could be taught) to be able to pilot an Alteisen-like machine (the Wildwurger IS a succesor of the Alteisen, after all). The Riese is even worse, having even more acceleration, more weight and much greater unbalance, needing tesla drives to not fall on its side. And the other problem is that the Alteisen is just too expensive. The Gespenst MK 2 Type R (the mass production Gespenst) is quite cost effective (arguably the most cost effective of all the grunt units), being very effective and sturdy, and relatively cheap, everything an army wants. Specially once equiped with EOT technologies that let them fly, like the Lyons. That's why instead of the Gespenst MK 3, we got the Alteisen. Also, keep in mind that the Alteisen was designed with a partner in mind, to give it cover until it can arrive to the point were it has to unleash all its ammo. The Weisritter, which is based on the Gespenst Mk2 Type T, was created to cover this niche and has the same real problem, way too expensive to be the next mass production model (and its paper thing armor and high mobility means not many pilots can, again, pilot it effectively) Dr Marion is INCAPABLE to design mechas cheap and easy to pilot enough for mass production.
@@abc2390986 Actually standard Gespies don't have the Neutron Beam - only PTX-001, Gespenst Type R, was ever equipped with it. Normal Mass Production Gespenst units just have the split missiles, whatever additional weaponry the player can scrounge together through the equippable weapon systems in OG games, and the Jet Magnum manuever, which involves punching the other guy in the face. The original Alt Eisen was a contendor for the Gespenst MkIII that was designed to use human technology only, which is why it only has physical weapons - beam weaponry was reverse engineered from aliens in OG. However, it was incredibly unbalanced, so it never saw mass production because Kyosuke was the only one it ever really clicked with. Nothing, however, will ever be able to justify the Alt Riese being so absurd it needs a Tesla Drive flight system to be CAPABLE OF STANDING UPRIGHT.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: one of the most _badass_ real robot-types to exist.
Obviously.
It's the real type that many supers look at and weep, because they can't be as super as the Alty.
And one of the most badass pilots. After all, the Alt wouldn't even be able to _stand up_ if anyone other than Kyosuke tried to pilot it.
So badass it could even be considered a pseudo-super
