Can I just say, I watched this video when I was a little kid years ago. (Me trying to get a pet) and now after having a hamster I realized that she was WAY ahead of time. I mean she has a detolf and sand bath and digging space! This was 6 years ago!
This was just an amazing video!!! You setup the cage seriously to perfection every little toy or hit looked like so much fun for them! They have such a wonderful home and such a great mommy!!! Huge hugs!!😊
I'm getting gerbils soon, and I want to know if it make sense to take the sand bath out in the evening and back inside in the morning to save space? Love your channel btw
Omg! I absolutely love this video!!!! I really want gerbils and watching this video made me think about it more, thank you so much for uploading this! xxx
+Chubby Chesnut I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Gerbils are great pets, especially as they are fairly low maintenance in comparison to guinea pigs, rabbits etc.
great inspiration for thinking outside the box of a shop bought gerbilarium ,they just aren't big enough and way too exspensive. I'm gonna get mine a nice big tank next month. Your gerbils look so happy.
Is there any grip place on the inside where the gerbils can chew because I am thinking of getting the ikea detolf and know that gerbils are crazy chewers?
where did you buy the separation piece? i just bought a matbe 50 or 100 gallon tank for my gerbil and need something like tgat to seprate the play and dig/burrow area
I prefer feeding them from a bowl/dish instead of scatter feeding so I know how much they are eating. I have 2 gerbils and is a digging section needed? I have an area with lots of bedding but not like anything in their for them to dig up.
Scatter feeding is better. If you want to make sure they eat enough just observe them (you do not have to take them out for this) you can also feed them treats once in a while by hand (mealworms, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit). Do not feed treats like these daily. You can also offer fruits and veggies more often. These can be fed in a bowl, though they like to carry and hide them. They do need a digging area. What you need for 1 to 2 Gerbils is: MINIMUM (Now a days even this is often considered too small) -100cm (length) 40cm (wide) 40cm (tall) -> 40 INCH x 16 INCH x 16 INCH -> 43 Gallons These measurements are necessary to have without extra floors. Extra floors can be added additional, but then the tank should be higher. For 3 males you will need even more space! Keeping 3 males is trickier than keeping females. You might need to separate them, so plan on enough space to accommodate them separately. What else do you need: -Min. 20-40 cm. deep bedding for digging -A sand bath -A week with min. 25 cm in diameter (It can not be smaller or else their backs will get hurt! Bigger is always better!) -Chewing material such as toilet paper rolls, twigs, branches etc. (No plastic in the cage please!) -1 hut/house/shelter per mouse
Well you don't have to scatter feed but what I do is give them their food in a bowl, then whatever they don't eat, the next day I scatter it and refill their bowl. They tend to bury the bowl so I keep it up on top of hideaways and such
If you have a smaller cage for your gerbils, I recommend using tortoise terrain as their bedding, it holds tunnels amazingly and encourages natural instincts because it’s a bit like sand.
Hi Pets Palace, thank you for all of your videos. I have read that regular child's sand is too rough for gerbils' coat, but I find that gerbil and chinchilla sand are very hard to find where I live. Have you heard this regarding regular child's sand?
I believe children's playsand is ok, but not the best for their coat. I've used it in the past but I think I sterilised it in the oven first. Chinchilla sand is best. Are you able to order online? :)
Hay is good, but won’t hold tunnels. Alternative layers with other bedding could work, or using it in shallow areas. It’s also good for them to eat and chew. I can’t comment on aspen
This video was amazing, I am seriously in love with your gerbils detolf and hopefully one day i will have my own group of gerbils in my detolf! Your setup is so well thought out,They have a seriously amazing home xx
hiya is it possible to add to more female gerbils to my existing pair, they are my daughters and from the same litter a year ago. This is a last resort if it's needed or would we be best off keeping them as separate pairs?
We adopted two gerbils off the internet. And put them together. They are inseparable. But as all animals go, it depends on their personality if they are going to get along. If they fight too much separate them.
Hi, can i just ask how do you clean the tank then? Do you do spot cleaning and partial change of the bedding or overhaul each time? and how often do you clean the tank? thanks!
Get a kitty litter scoop. First take the gerbils out. Then toys and everything but bedding. Use the scoop and put it in garbage bags. Clean the tank with a litte critter safe disinfectant. Make sure it's dry then re set up :)
This provided wonderful inspiration for my detolf I'm buying tomorrow! I have 2 syrian hamsters, and will be dividing it in half. Ex: The jumbo wooden bendy bridge will be a perfect way to block their view of each other! Thanks so much for sharing.
+GreytMusic The detolf homes are great! :) The only thing is that dividing it in half will not provide enough space for each hamster - in the wild they will be running for miles each night so they would not have enough space.
+Pets Palace TV I would LOVE to get a Detolf for each, but alas, hubby says no. They'll each have over 450sqin, which is more than they have now. Maybe someday, hubby will warm up to another detolf... Keep your fingers crossed for us!
Kuchen IstCool you should be happy they want to provide the right conditions for their hamsters, and not insult them because they didn't know something before.
The enclosure they’re using is an ikea glass detolf set on it’s side. :) it’s fairly affordable and multiple pet youtubers have invested in it and enjoyed the amount of space it provided. The wooden bendable bridges and the wooden wheel can be found on Amazon, but they’re not limited to only being online.
Oops I meant set on its back ^^ my apologies. However since this was not meant to be a cage you’ll have to make your own lid for it which is highly recommended to prevent future escapes.
im going to get gerbils soon and idk how many but if i get gerbils i'm getting them the detolf and they'll be female, what beddings best that you can find in the usa or canada? also idk how many i should get
Hey I was just wondering if it would be ok to keep two gerbils in a 20 gallon tank because I read that the minimum is five gallons per gerbil? Awesome video btw I subbed! 🐹💖
Please could you tell me how you are able to move the enclosure when you need to? I just got two gerbils and I can't stand seeing them in the 'large' cage I had to buy them, but I can't manage a heavy glass tank 😔
@Erin’sArk Hi, new subscriber here, love this enclosure. What’s your screen on the top ? Also do you boil the wood before putting it in the enclosure ? I also was told that reptisand is safer for the gerbils, not to much dust. Thanks 😊
I'm getting two rabbits and two to three gerbils (not in the same cage) but I'm making a play pen for the rabbits that they go in to about 2-4 hours a day and I was wondering with supervision could I put them them all in it together?
Hi , I have tried my gerbils with every different wheel you could think of is it ok if they don’t have one or should I carry on trying different wheels?
While wheels aren't strictly necessary for gerbils, they can provide them with a source of enrichment. Although it may not seem like they're using their wheel, they may actually be using it during the night as studies have shown that's when gerbils are most likely to run on their wheel ☺️
This is one of the only ones with a deltof, and I might be getting a deltof soon for my gerbils and I love this video so I think that you did great 🌹🌹🌻
leah smith I have many videos on caring for guinea pigs - it is difficult to say everything in one comment but if there is something specific you want to ask feel free. Thanks! :)
I have go a 18 inch by 15 inch by 11 inch it's two floored is that enough for 2 gerbils or should I get one hamster if this is too small I will try my best to keep them out of there cage a playing as much as possible
What sand should I get my gerbils, the currently use the one for chinchillas but when I research, people say not to use it and honestly they make all bathing choices sound bad. What one is in this cage?
Chinchilla sand is actually fine for gerbils I use it for mine just make sure that it’s not powder or dust and make sure that it’s not too dusty so it doesn’t cause an infection If you don’t want to use chinchilla sand you can use children’s play sand and make sure it’s heat treated and I’d recommend sifting through it as well. And also the one that she used is chinchilla sand
Leah Makin it's called an Ikea Detolf. It's a glass display shelf laid down on its back with the glass shelves removed. Makes a great, HUGE cage for rodents or small pets.
Hey I'm getting a pair of guinea pigs tomorrow but I've come down with a cold and I know some pets can catch the human cold! Can guinea pigs? Thanks:)x Love your videos x
Lauren Sharples I don't know for sure but I have heard that they can - try not to handle them much until your cold has gone, this will give them enough time to settle into their new home well and before feeding/cleaning them wash your hands just to be on the safe side. Thank you! :) x
i problem my girbles shred evrting wood cardbord pplastic i knowe they sharpen ther teeth that way but is there eny way to prevent them form biting there house
where do you put their water? Im thinking about adopting gerbils and I dont want to use a bottle. If I put water in a dish will they constantly knock it over?
I don’t know much about gerbils yet but with my hamster she would always either tip the bowl over or get bedding in the bowl. It could work if you put it in an area without much bedding though. Hope this helps
Your like the only person on youtube who makes awsome gerbil videos, your awsome
Do you think so? :)
Yes your the best your over the top awsome
🍁PetsN'DIY's🍂 I have been searching for so long to find someone you makes clear videos on youtube and your like the only one
🍁PetsN'DIY's🍂 that sounded like a roast to other gerbil youtubers
Imao ur like 11 years old and doesn’t know how to spell awesome it’s not awsome it’s awesome get it right 11 year old kid
When the gerbils dig it up they must be like "oh my god everybody look what I found!"
imagine how boring it must be when they've discovered all of the buried stuff
Quirky Jackalope "OMG I found popeii"
Yea ha ha
Admiral Mudkip she replaces it :)

hi so what’s a detolf exactly? i looked it up and only found like weird shelving from ikea lol
@@julessweinberg6434 that is a detolf
@juless - yeah it’s basically this glass display shelf but many pet owners lie it down (turning it sideways) and use it as a pet cage/tank.
How often do you clean the cage and how difficult is it to clean it with all of the bedding?
LookingGlassProductions this is a realllly late reply but u clean your cage about once a month
TheCluelessBell Ok x
@thecasualtrollingpuma That's a bit long. I do every 2 weeks
@thecasualtrollingpuma 👌
@thecasualtrollingpuma leaving it there that long can cause bacteria
you’re the only gerbil channel I trust
I don't have gerbils but I have a hamster in an Ikea Detolf and this is inspiring me so much!! Thank you!
I honestly love your channel so much!

You are so creative and i'm actually getting 3 gerbils around christmas!
Have a great day Erin!
Very good info!! Will keep much of this in mind with our Gerbils!
Great video and from people I have talked to nearly all gerbils use sandbox as a toilet!☺
Over 30years of gerbil fun, and I never thought about putting a wilderness poster. >_> Thanks! :D

Hi I really love your videos and I have one question how much does an ikea detolf cost?
Patricia Soto Hello! Thank you :) The detolf is £40 x
Thanks but I live in the US and I don't know how much £40 is but thank you you are the best!:)
£40.00 in US money is 60.58 US dollars
I'm not if that helps because I'm English but that's what it is
Georgia Thomas thanks :)
I'm getting gerbils soon, and I want to know if it make sense to take the sand bath out in the evening and back inside in the morning to save space?
Love your channel btw
I suggest not because your gerbils may want to clean their fur at night as they are animals that are awake at night.

Gerbils should have a partner. They must not be kept alone
Is there any grip place on the inside where the gerbils can chew because I am thinking of getting the ikea detolf and know that gerbils are crazy chewers?
Hello! Absolutely love your aquarium ❤❤
Can you please tell me what those 2 types of bedding are?
Thanks a lot!

Amazing cage setup! I was wonder how do you hand the water bottle on a glass cage?
Do you know the exact measurements of the enclosure please?
43x163cm or 61.5”x15.5”. Hope that helps, I know it’s a really late response but it’s better than no response :)

where did you buy the separation piece? i just bought a matbe 50 or 100 gallon tank for my gerbil and need something like tgat to seprate the play and dig/burrow area
Where's the bowl with the sand in from and what's it called?
Awesome video! Where did you get your tank? My gerbils have outgrown their cage and I would like to get them a lovely big tank like this.
This tank is an ikea detolf. It’s a shelving unit, just with the shelves removed and placed on its side. A lot of hamster owners also use it
I prefer feeding them from a bowl/dish instead of scatter feeding so I know how much they are eating. I have 2 gerbils and is a digging section needed? I have an area with lots of bedding but not like anything in their for them to dig up.

where did you get the wheel?!?? it’s soo adorable and i’ve been looking for one like that!

do you know where you got the log partition from? i cant find one anywhere!!
i also can't find the log roll in the big tank partition size, only the small ladder ones!
Is there any way that you could list where you got everything from like the cage and the house?
hiya is it possible to add to more female gerbils to my existing pair, they are my daughters and from the same litter a year ago. This is a last resort if it's needed or would we be best off keeping them as separate pairs?
We adopted two gerbils off the internet. And put them together. They are inseparable. But as all animals go, it depends on their personality if they are going to get along. If they fight too much separate them.

Oh and every three weeks or so. It's your own preference really since everyone has their own opinion on whether to leave a handful of bedding or not.
woah thanks!

It's more space than a normal hamster space though they do need levels so they can climbe and such😄
Kuchen IstCool you should be happy they want to provide the right conditions for their hamsters, and not insult them because they didn't know something before.

That's still little small. I would get bigger that that so you can have happy gerbils who enjoy life and not just be bored. ❤️😄
Nice video, great advice and it was very fun to see you set up the tank! They have a lovely set up, great job! :) x

Is wood shavings that ive got from a tree in my garden ok for bedding
Eve Pringle, it depends on what kind of tree it is, only aspen shavings are safe for gerbils
I have this old wodden vivatium whicj im planning on ussing for gerbils, will the girbils chew through it?

where do you put their water? Im thinking about adopting gerbils and I dont want to use a bottle. If I put water in a dish will they constantly knock it over?
I don’t know much about gerbils yet but with my hamster she would always either tip the bowl over or get bedding in the bowl. It could work if you put it in an area without much bedding though. Hope this helps
