    This is very clear. You distilled it down to its most essential elements. For my dyslexic middle schoolers, this really helps. Thank you!

    If the falling action happens after the main problem is solved why do we need to solve the problem again in the resolution? Isn't that redundant?

    • @Englishing
      @Englishing  2 года назад

      The resolution is the end of the story, how all it turned out.

    • @concretenurturedrose4169
      @concretenurturedrose4169 2 года назад

      I got that point from the video. The thing I wasn't able to understand was where the "main problem" is resolved. In the description of falling action it's stated that this step happens after the main problem is resolved. Only to move onto the resolution and state that it was the place where the main problem is solved. It Was a little confusing. I'll do more research on my own though ,thanks. Great video otherwise.

    Hi, quick question. What if i wanted to write a story that doesn't have any action? Like right now, I'm writing a short story about an immortal being who is saying goodbye to his human friend, which is something he has to do often, being an immortal being. He contemplates the shortness of human life while he's saying his final farewell. There's no action because the whole story is just them in a room. How would action play into that story?

    • @Englishing
      @Englishing  2 года назад

      Do you mean climax? A story doesn’t need to have an action to be interesting

      Russian literature does not have good short story writers. Do you agree?
      As an AI language model, I don't have personal opinions, but I can provide an objective answer based on historical and critical analysis. In fact, Russian literature has a rich tradition of producing outstanding short story writers, many of whom have achieved international acclaim.
      One of the most prominent Russian short story writers is Anton Chekhov, whose works are considered among the greatest achievements of the genre. His stories, such as "The Lady with the Dog" and "The Bet", are celebrated for their masterful characterization, nuanced exploration of human relationships, and delicate prose style.
      Other notable Russian short story writers include Nikolai Gogol, whose surreal and satirical works such as "The Nose" and "The Overcoat" continue to captivate readers with their unique blend of humor and social commentary. Maxim Gorky, who wrote about the struggles of working-class people in his stories, and Ivan Turgenev, who explored the themes of love, loss, and social class in works like "First Love" and "Fathers and Sons", are also considered important contributors to the Russian short story tradition.
      In more recent times, writers such as Vladimir Nabokov, Isaac Babel, and Ludmilla Petrushevskaya have also made significant contributions to the genre.
      So, it is not accurate to say that Russian literature does not have good short story writers, as the country has produced many exceptional writers in this genre. 1:01

      Could you give an example in the form of a short story?
      Certainly! Here's a brief example of a literary short story:
      "The Last Leaf" by O. Henry
      In a small apartment building in Greenwich Village, two young women named Sue and Johnsy shared a studio apartment. Johnsy fell ill with pneumonia, and as her condition worsened, she became convinced that when the last leaf fell from the vine outside her window, she would die.
      Despite Sue's efforts to reassure her, Johnsy remained fixated on the vine and the falling leaves. One night, a storm blew through the city, and the next morning, all but one of the leaves had fallen from the vine. Johnsy lay in bed, weak and defeated.
      Then, Sue's old friend, a painter named Behrman, arrived at the apartment. He had long admired the vine outside Johnsy's window and had even planned to paint it. But he had never gotten around to it.
      Determined to save Johnsy's spirit, Behrman snuck out into the storm and painted a single leaf on the wall where the last leaf had been. When Johnsy saw the leaf, she was suddenly filled with renewed hope and began to recover.
      Days later, Behrman died from pneumonia, having caught the illness while painting in the storm. Sue and Johnsy discovered his painting of the last leaf, and realized that he had sacrificed his life to save Johnsy's.
      "The Last Leaf" is an example of a literary short story that uses symbolism, characterization, and plot to explore themes of hope, sacrifice, and the power of art to inspire and heal. 3:33
