Marantz is superior at deep controlled bass and crystal clear mids and highs that sparkle cleanly with brilliant open air sound stage. The cambridge has higher %THD than the Marantz and you can hear it in the hight frequencies ever so slightly when there is heavy bass or busy music.
It's excactly like I commented before. The Cambridge tilts bass and treble, therefore a somewhat recessed midrange. It's their signature sound and also clever, because this slight V-shape is preferred by many. The Marantz seems more balanced and sometimes more spacious. Both terrific amps, but I prefer the Marantz here. I just don't like the trebble from the speakers, there's a lot better to be found in that pricerange, without need for tonecontrol ;) Great job again E Project, thanks 👊
As an owner I have to agree with you. The CXA81 has no V shape to it and a beautiful mid range. In fact that's one reason I purchased this amp. Living in a mid size one bedroom apartment I needed an amp that didn't over emphasize the bass so as to not disturb the neighbours. It has lots of bass however I find it's in the background rather than the foreground. This is a fairly neutral amp, a little colder than neutral but not overly.
seriously?,.....I think there is somthing like echo in marantz midrange, to my ears it is not a spacious sound, however cxa 61 in that manner is definitely more close to marantz,..so far cambridge is much more neutral to me
Marantz! Deeper, more dynamic and clearer sound. It’s not a huge difference, but believe it or not, I can hear it even on an iPad mini. That speaks for itself.
To my ears, the Marantz excites the enhanced treble on these speakers and makes them sound shrill, while the Cambridge tames that somewhat, even though the Marantz corrects more for the dip in the midrange that these speakers have. And, the Marantz has tone controls, while the Cambridge doesn't, so that makes the case for it, since you can just turn the treble down some to reduce the harsh treble from that tweeter.These should be much better than they are for $3k! For $2300 you can get the Monitor Audio Gold 100, or any number of other speakers which will blow them away!
@@m.moreira3969 Unfortunately, the "golden ears" poo poo tone controls, even though some great sounding high-end amps, like McIntosh, Marantz, and Luxman have them. I'm with you, I won't buy an amp without them, 'cause they are great for tweaking the room, recording, and system to your liking. I would much rather have the Cambridge AXA25 and 35 amps, or the AXR85 and 100 receivers, all of which have tone controls and cost less and sound better IMO than the CX amps

Just heard this through my 705 S2's and I would have to say neither amp would be my choice. The Marantz, while maintaining a good image and good bass, just makes the high end on the 705's sound shrill, and I can tell you normally they do not, at least with my Rotel power amp. OTOH the Cambridge sounds like a blanket was thrown over the speakers......highs were recessed, midrange sucked out and bass was muddy. Just hoping this Cambridge was off or a bad example especially since it has been so well reviewed.

Can't really compare on youtube. But it's always fun to listen. In person is the real test. It's the really in-depth responses that are almost laughable.
Both amps are very good but marantz has more energy it looks like it’s more powerful amp but it’s not 60 vs 80. Some songs are better on CA but most sound better on Marantz.

Marantz has good midrange presence while Cambridge is a bit hollow. Marantz is also livelier in the treble while Cambridge is a bit rolled off. Overall the Marantz sounds better than the Cambridge.
I’ve the Denon and those 603 and they sound massive and spectacular! I now want to upgrade to the B&w 706 s2 eventually with extra sub. Also had Marantz amp but sound lazy.
matched with Maratz these loudspeakers are very nasal to me. I've never loved them. I can't judge easily over the amps despite I usually prefer Cambridge because of these speakers but I can say Cambridge limit their terrible attitude of sounding like a person with a cold
To my ears the Marantz is superior, more open and more presence in the upper mids/treble and also more punch in the bass and stronger dynamics, yes i do agree that the treble is a bit too lively with the Marantz but the 705 S2 does have a very lively treble so i think that the Marantz just shows how the 705 actually sounds. The Cambridge definetly is less clear in the mids and with less punch in the bass too, it has a recessed presentation that lacks clarity and detail

Cambridge Audio has a very light, airy sound. Marantz sounds more voluminous, very noticeable in the midbass area.

Marantz is solid performer, presence across the spectrum is amazing. The CX81 sounds a bit thin and empty, lacking impact
Both are great amps ( I have the CXA81), but B&W speakers can be harsh in the higher frequencies…. ouch

The amps are good but B&W speakers as often is the case with them sound shrill, too forward and top heavy.
