    I garden in central MN in zone 4B! So glad I found your channel. Can’t wait to see more of your videos! I love dahlias also.

      Yay! Zone 4b gardeners unite! Have you had a frost yet? I can't believe we haven't had one here yet - and it's almost November. 🤯

    I just checked. Your Texas Scarlet Sage is Salvia coccinea which we call Tropical Sage down where I live. It’s native throughout out the South

      Oooh good to know! I'm going to try to grow it again. It was gorgeous and grew very easily from seed. Also the pollinators loved it!

    I love making beautiful arrangements in pots but get overwhelmed with keeping things watered, I have no drip irrigation. However I can't help potting up containers with different flowers, I appreciate your love of growing things and not getting around to canning and eating everything. Your attitude is refreshing, I was getting down on myself. My hubby doesn't like vegetables and I cannot keep up with everything.

      Same! I love the idea of having tons of pots but need to cut back a bit... I think hardier things like geraniums and the salvia are going to be my "go-tos" because they can handle some tough love. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes growing but not preserving! I don't think you should get down on yourself at all. If we don't HAVE to preserve everything, then we should just focus on the fun/relaxing parts of gardening and enjoy it. It's a hobby, not a job! :)

      I'm going to lift them this weekend! I will definitely make a video about it. In the meantime there are lots of different methods and tons of tutorials out there. I have had success lifting them, letting them dry just a bit, and then storing them in a plastic bin covered in peat moss. I didn't fully seal the lid and kept an eye on the humidity over the winter. I keep them stored in my basement, which isn't heated well so it stays nice and cool all winter.

    Omg love it, that your a zone 4. I have so much work to do before our crazy winter shows up. I have to go buy my garlic starts. I had like 70% loss of my dahlia overwintering in my basement 😢 what do you use to store them?

    • @goodenoughmn
      @goodenoughmn  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the reminder! I need to plant my garlic too. I'm going to try it in pots for next year. Last year I overwintered my dahlias in big plastic tubs covered with peat moss. There was a lid on the tub but I left it with a gap so they wouldn't get too damp. I kept a little humidity gauge in there and just check it every week or so. Most survived! I may try storing some in plastic wrap this winter to compare...

      Great, I’ll definitely try peat moss this year instead of wood shaving!

    Who do you swap seeds with?

      Jolon from Flower Church instagram.com/flower.church/ sets it up! I keep an eye on her IG account for registration info. She sends out all the instructions, etc. You just have to pay for shipping! Such a good deal.
