    I love this song, Eddie does a wonderful job on it. I knew him pretty well as a fan, and he was a very nice person. Too bad everyone believes what his kids and ex-wives have to say about him, even now, after his passing. Eddie had a great life and a great career, regardless of his personal life. He leaves his loyal fans with a lot of great memories, memories of a sweet man, he was the best.

      yeah, too bad people believe the truth - like in his OWN AUTOBIGRAPHY???? - limitless womanzing, drugs, booze. gambling and more womanzing. this guy has screwed more women than Sinatra, Kennedy, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and the entire KISS band combined.

    If you take all the qualities that make a great singer no one, but no one had them all in such abundance, put them in a package that came out quite so well. Eddie Fisher was simply better than anyone else. The sadness I feel at his passing is powerful.

    Love Eddie Fishers voice. I’ve been watching the movie Bundle of Joy and keep playing his songs over and over, I recorded the movie so as I could do this. Watching him sing, you can see how effortless it is for him, even though singing takes strength. His high notes are gorgeous and he can sing so softly too, beautiful. Makes me swoon. A lot of what they call music today is pure rubbish and the majority can’t sing at all.

      He remade this one but this is the original and the best. I told him there is a little tender nuance in his voice near the end that made a big difference. WISH YOU WERE HERE (EDDIE FISHER FAN CLUB) You can read my my reminisces of Eddie when he lived in my building.

    This is one of those recordings that has always stuck with me since I first heard it when my older brother bought the record back in 1955/6. I was 10 years old at the time. It still makes the hair of the back of my neck stand up (well, there's none on top anymore). Great song, great singer, and makes today's performers seem very mediocre..

    In some of the reports of the tragic death of Carrie Fisher, now sadly joined by her mother, I heard Eddie Fisher described as a "crooner". As this clip and many others show he was far from being a crooner. Particularly his full-throated and effortlessly delivered high notes were virtually of operatic quality. I well remember being fascinated by his singing in my youth. I would like to hear him now in high fidelity sound.

    • @alanpolasky3777
      @alanpolasky3777 5 лет назад

      Yeah. That was my 'reaction', too. Orchestration was 'excessive' and did seem to be competing with Fisher. My favorite rendition is still Lex Baxter's, with its finely balanced vocals and instrumentation, as well as its wistfully melancholic flavor. Next best, I think, is Dorothy Collins' take, from Your Hit parade, 1955.

    I happened to see Eddie Fisher live in concert at the old Anaheim Carousel theater in the mid 1960s. This was just after he had been dumped by Elizabeth Taylor who had taken up with Richard Burton during the filming of Cleopatra. I wasn't expecting much from the concert since Eddie's recording days were just about over, and his main market was an audience that was rapidly moving into middle age. But man was I ever wrong about what an entertainer he was -- he belted out several hours of great songs while he worked the whole room going from the stage (in the round at that theater) into the audience seating areas several times to sing to individual ladies or couples. He also worked up such a seat that he slowly doffed his coat, tie, and had his shirt unbuttoned to mid-chest finally, all the while mopping his brow with a large white napkin. He did several requests and at least two encores. The show ran over an hour long as I recall, but the audience was still cheering when he finally left completely exhausted I am sure.

      I saw Eddie in the '80s. He was on a bill with Jimmy Walker, Donald O'Connor and pre-Broadway Jackie Mason. Each got about 30 minutes. Eddie brought the house down.

      That's a great story - somehow, Eddie Fisher had a string of hits for RCA Victor throughout the 50's - then however he got involved in a scandal and it really hurt his career. After he was dropped from RCA (well, I assume) he went on to record for a very small label - to the best of my knowledge he didn't have a major hit record after that time but was still around. To my way of looking at it, as Rock and roll records began to dominate the pop charts, his style of singing was somehow overshadowed by less talented performers. There's no doubt though that he was - unequivocally ~ one of the best Male vocalists around.

    I agree with you, Eddie's life was his own business and should not have had any bearing on his professional life. I just listened to this song last night and Eddie did a great job on it, but then to me, he never recorded a bad song. And seeing him sing in person for so many years, all I can say is: He was the best, on stage and on record. I also agree with you about bringing back Young and Foolish.

Thought of another Steve Lawrence. and on and on.

    March 5, 2016: Another nice voice silenced. A handsome man, with talent and a strong voice who sang many good songs enjoyed by his admires. We met at a book singing. We spoke alone for twenty minutes, just about 'Things. I mentioned we were about the same age, he differed, saying he was much older. He gave me an autograph picture address to my wife (I have it somewhere in the files) saying, "Your a lucky lady to have a man like Bruce." i enjoyed meeting in for the 2nd time in person and have the small talk we shared. I read some time ago that he passed.

      Original singer was Todd Duncan in the movie "Unchained" (hence the title). It was a prison movie starring former college and NFL star Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch, pre-Perry Mason Barbara Hale, and pre- My Three Sons Tim Considine. Al Hibbler had the first vocal recording. Check Wikipedia.
