Great solution for hornets, isn't it?
I just did in an entire nest of yellow jackets the same way. Threw a bug light against the entrance and they all roasted themselves over the next 24 hours.

Finally, someone who know how to use a bug zapper to kill wasps and hprnets. Everybody else just parks it by the nest and expects them to attack it full on. You, however did this properly and jiggled it up and down to get them stinging.

People don't seem to get the value of getting their numbers way down before going for a final removal.

Had a hornet sting me today in my barn. Found the new nest about the size of a shelled coconut. Got my yellow jacket eliminator and up the ladder I went. All was over in about 15 min. and good riddance. The eliminator is Elmer's spray adhesive. Spray a good coat and if they head out the door way give em a blast. They stick around until they are dead and others come to the party but don't ever leave!!

Expanding foam in the bottom hole if you are brave enough. Or do it at night.

You need a flashlight to do it at night, and any sudden light while they're sleeping will excite them

Maybe 2 or 3 bug zappers and a precision bb gun to get them out of the hive and into the bug zapper’s a little faster.

Must of gotten the rest when it became dark if they are attracted to the light? Big pile of dead bugs on the ground?

danwat1234 - No bug light in here... They are attracted to meat. I replaced light tube with PVC full of 1/2 pound of meat... Drilled hole in pvc. Plus, when they are disturbed... they attack. When one gets injure or dies, they send out some type of message to the others for help. It's an endless loop... they keep coming. Keep getting zapped.
For a final death wish for them... I did wait till most were dead. Strapped on two bug bombs to top of zapper and hoisted it up so bug bumbs were spraying directly into next. I rammed it into the nest.
Next day... They were gone. Hosed it all off the house. No more hornets or nest.

As I was watching this video I couldn't help but wonder if you did a follow up. You got the adults, but did you get the queen and larvae?

    Did it work...Hard to tell!

Yes. Took about 30 hours. Next day I moved the rope so bug zapper was directly below nest.
Lowered to ground. Duct taped a bug bomb to top of zapper. Disconnected electric since spray can be flammable.
Called wife in front of house.. as soon as I activated bug bomb.. she pulled rope up and the bug zapper with bug bomb implanted directly into bottom of nest.
      Did this twice.
Came back next day with garden hose and destroyed nest from ground.
Maybe not the best Appalachian engineering... but it worked and nobody got stung.
