I not only found this video helpful, but also entertaining. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us, I have parts on order for my 2007 Vmax and while I’m in there I swap the stock springs out for ones from Progressive.
Good info mate. I have three viragos with the hopes of making two good ones using a mishmash of parts. The two I plan to ride definitely need fork seals so thank you very much for sharing! I'm not a fan of how you used the hammer but I like the use of the PVC pipe to compress the seal in place. Nicely done!
Next time try not to scratch the fork tube when pulling the clip, I find a plastic pick works well. And it helps to loosen the top cap and bottom bolt when the fork's still mounted on the triple tree using the hole end of a wrench on with the Allen key like you tried doing. But thanks for the video
For anybody who's planning to do this job. Open the screws at the bottom of the forks when the forks are in!!!!! Then it's an easy exercise, opening them when out can be too difficult, as you can see in this video.
Can be a Pain in the Bum, Yes. But having the right tools for the job helps too - a good Rattle Gun! Different bikes, different ways to take apart. The Sr250 I'm building at the moment, loosening them BEFORE IS A MUST, but not impossible to do after taking off. Thanks for your input Michael. I haven't done enough forks in 35+ years, but thanks to people like you, I am finding new bits of knowledge along the way... Cheers n RSOT >:)
You should break the bolt loose on the bottom before you take the forks off the bike its much easier. If you can get someone to help you can use the handel bars to break it loose. Same with getting it back tight. Its how i did my. 97 1100 Virago. Just something to think about.
Thanks Jack. I have since heard about that trick, but thanks for the reminder. As I'm doing a set of Sr250 forks atm, and didn't do that, but I will be fitting em back on, to use your trick. Cheers n uRSOT >:)
Thankyou MrFalloffalot for reminding me how much oil to put in... My Latest lesson - Use Genuine Oil Seals!! Many thanks to the 11000+ people who watched this video. RSOT >:)
You mean the Bolt? I rummaged round my bolt bucket till I found a bolt, long enough (to fit 2nuts) and same size head (to fit fork head). This replaced the Allen key I was 'trying' to use. Was too much movement to shock it loose. It helps to 'Shock' the bolt, to start it turning loose, otherwise it'll just spin round. A mechanic buddy just uses an Impact drill and a packet of Straight Allen key bits. I'm impatient and a Tight-Ass, so I just use what's around me... Is that what you wanted to know? Cheers n RSOT >:)
I was watching you struggle to get the bottom bolt out and I was telling you I have the tools to remove it easier and offered you to come over but you didn't answer!!!
Don't hit allen keys with hammer to loosen or tighten bolts try a long socket on an extension bar. And what ever you do never knock seals in with a steel hammer you had a rubber 1 all in all not the greatest video I've ever seen maybe it should be titled how not to fit fork oil seals.
Yeah, a few shady practices for sure - but helpful for an overview of the procedure. Just a little dangerous for newbie craftsmen/wrenchers who might not know better to avoid creating damage. (I for example have lots of experience on cars but am new to bikes - so good enough for me 😂)
This is also applicable to the Yamaha xj maxim models. Great video enjoy your bikes
Its pretty much the same on all bikes even the upside down forks.

I always wanted to ride a Vmax, see what the hype is all about with that POWWWWER it has! lol

Many thanks to the 11000+ people who watched this video. RSOT >:)
I'm installing All Balls seals - they claim to be better than original.
@@andrewpearce2562 If not, they're pretty damm good for a copy!

Oh I don't know, the rag wrap was starting to grow on me, would've looked right in place once the oil discoloured the rag tho...
awesome knowledge to share good job buddy
what was the tool you made to get the one side off?

@@MrFalloffalot yes thank you. I'm the same way. I just bought a set of long allen keys with T handle. Do you think that would work?
@@Eloymbernal135 I don't see why not. Try a Shifter on the shaft/handle (if you need more leverage).
Good Luck with it.

Great work.
Very good.
Good vid, those damper rods are always a pain.
I was watching you struggle to get the bottom bolt out and I was telling you I have the tools to remove it easier and offered you to come over but you didn't answer!!!
Can you please tell me what tool it is and where I might be able to get it or even post a picture?
@@Eloymbernal135 ideally, an impact wrench/gun (electric driver type or air impact) and a set of impact hex bits.
Why youy dont show the hexagon that you use? That is not a complete video.
Do you mean the size/type of Tools I used?
@@MrFalloffalot yes, the video is cutted, and then i saw a spike inside the bar.
@@DiegoPerez-yp8uv What time in video?
it for xv 1100?
Is that it?

Good vid but what's with the high pitch squealing noise,,,,very annoying.
That's probably recording interference somehow. Is annoying isn't it.
At least you Pass the 'High-Pitch hearing test'... >:D
nooooooooooooooooooooooooo !! dont use a hammer :(( at 20.15 :((((
Wrap a rag around the hammer head if you think it might scratch.
But I haven't scratched any - 'yet'. lol
