At 4:15 the ruins you're near I believe IS the old Rattling Run Village.....I read somewhere that the lower point along the RR grade called rattling run stop was almost below the town, but there is an almost directly downhill road to the railroad which was a water tank trail...(if my memory serves me).
I wonder if they used a common spring in this community? I suppose they had some smoke houses and of course out houses as well. Be a great place to surface hunt for artifacts. Great vid and what a day you had for this hike. So humid this summer and I'm sure this was a welcomed day. Thanks as always! DaveyJO
Those tiered stones look like they were pre-European, Native American Tiered Gardens. Like the Mayans used, there are finds of these in Georgis and I feel they were made by Mayans. Neat finds.
Great video; I have come to like snakes since I live in Florida since 2017. We have three Black Racers living in our landscape. They are so cool to watch as they hunt for lizards going up and down the bushes and plants. Is this snake you found possibly a North Racer? The snake in your video reminds me of our Black Racers here in Florida.
Another GREAT video sir! By the way, the Ellendale road as you call it, is (from my reading) part of the stagecoach road. In the area somewhere there, it parts company with Rattling Run and heads eastward toward Rousch Gap.... I have never been beyond Rattling Run along the Stage road however. Again, great trip and thanks for taking us along!!
At 14:50 it seems all that stonework is running up the mountain is it not? That may be the water tank trail I mentioned...If so it will be similar to the one leading to yellow springs from the RR Grade.
On second thought, once you are on the Knauber trail on top of Stony mountain, there is a blue blazed trail that connects with it coming from the stony valley fire tower.
The left turn off the Horseshoe Trail is pink blaze I believe. If you go down stream into the thick rhododendron you will come to a neat bridge abutment with a hand paved bed. Another cool feature in that area is the outcrop where Sharp Mt drops into Rattling Run's east side. It has a blue blaze trail but I'm more of a dead reckoning type. Just east from the outcrop is a small bug out cave too. Going up the Knauber trail takes some lungs...and breaks at my age. I photographed a black snake climb up to a low bird nest and eat the eggs just west of there.
Lots of cool stuff in one area. Love the water "rattling" through the rocks. Thanks for sharing as always.
Thank you for sharing your great beautiful video I love and can only imagine how the people lived there also liked the snake
Great video, love the foundations and the rat snake is always nice to see
Beautiful hike...and loved all the ruins!!! Hearing the stream.
Definately need to make another explore there. So much to see. Thanks for sharing!
Someday

You have the most interesting hicks. Great stone work, if walls could talk.
Awesome vid, just explored the area today and it's a fun hike
Great video! First one of your's that I've watched but I'll be watching more!
Do mountain streams/springs every completely dry up?
Always like all these little ruined settlements you go to in the woods

The water tank trail is further to the west.
Yep it is....after I thought about it I recalled that! I didn't know there were so many ruins to still be seen at rattling run...thanks!
cool video.thanks!
Hearing a lot of crackling, is it Woodpeckers?
Another cool video, thanks
what a cool adventure. I'm wondering, before you got to the Knauber trail, were there blue blazes on that other trail?
Nope.

What kind of camera do you use? Is it a GoPro? It has excellent quality audio and video.
Canon SX50
22:19 snake gas ...Listen !!!
The smaller structure might of been a smoke house....for preserving meat
