I think most direct competitors look better than the current accord, exterior wise. Interior and tech wise, the accord is top 2. Both the k5 and sonata are definitely the best looking in their class, exterior wise and top 2 Interior wise.
I purchased the Kia brand new in 2020 (2021) gt line all white with the black accents on a 3 year lease which I completely fell in love with ! Always caught myself looking back at it along with countless compliments ! I love the all new design changes especially the big digital screen for the interior which was needed in the earlier model. the only thing I like more about the model before this is the light bar going all the way across the back . My only complaint… other than that love this car ! They nailed it with the futuristic and stand out design which is how I think they won over Honda and Toyota ! Big move for new owners is replace the plate lights for extra bright Sylvia blue led bulbs makes a world of a difference 😉
The brand is hitting it out of the park for the most part, but the dealership experience? Can't deny that's not a problem. Kia/Hyundai dealers: It's not the 90s anymore! Treat your customers better! Traded in my Accord, which I loved, and purchased the 2021 GT Line in passion red back in July 2020. Just traded in last week for the 2025 GT Line in wolf gray with the premium package and the red interior. Most all of the changes are awesome. My few complaints are minor, trivial things that most wouldn't notice if they haven't owned both years. My biggest complaint, which is just a learning curve I am sure, is the shared hvac/audio controls. Slightly annoying and inconvenient to have to change back and forth. With 75k on the clock, the 2021 K5 had zero problems. Loved it enough to buy a 25. The accord is dated looking. Kinda boring and drab. The refresh of the accord really set it back a bit (in my opinion). Kia sure stepped up their game in every aspect
I bought my 2021 K5 GT LINE with premium package in passion red in May of 2021. Was lucky to qualify for thier 0.0 intrest rate. Just turned 39.000 miles. No issues. Hey Joe ! Funny story……..I’m at safety harbor resort this week and I was driving, made a right on 19 and was like, that looks just like the curve Joe is always driving around…….and it was !! 🤣. On throttle !
It's not as much fun to drive. Torque has dropped to 181, down from 195. The 1.6 Turbo has been around a long time. It's been very reliable, and is not known to be a problem engine..They are still using it in lots of thier vehicles. They dropped it here to save money.
@johnfranklin5277 the 1.6t doesn't put its power down as good in fwd configuration. It's louder and more coarse than the 2.5 n/a. I hate the 1.6t for that. You'll still get peppy acceleration and better top end from the n/a.
@@johnfranklin5277I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco 1.6L turbo. The engine just failed at 93k miles. Joe great review as always ! In your opinion , the refreshed sonata n-line or this K5? I like either the n-line or this one for the bang for the buck . Thanks in Advance!
I think they made the right move with the engine change. I have 1.6T in my 21 Sonata but would rather his this engine and eliminate the turbo lag PLUS get just a little more horsepower. Great review as always!
I've been giving the K5 GT a hard look, but the deal breaker is FWD only. What good is the extra power if you can't put it to the ground? Offer AWD on the GT and I'm sold.
I bought a brand new 2021 Kia K5 GT with the GT2 package back in July 2021. It looked good and was a lot of fun. Looked better than its Hyundai sibling at the time, the Sonata N line. Now I just recently picked up the redesigned 2024 Sonata N Line which now completely blows away the K5 cosmetically. Only bad part of the Sonata N line over the K5 GT is that you can't get cooled seats, heated steering wheel, and memory seats in the N Line.
To me, I don’t see why they got rid of the 1.6 L turbo feel like it was a nice little peppy engine, I feel like they could’ve just refined it and reworked it to make a little bit more power. I drove one. Had a nice little get up and go for it. I ended up going all out and got the 2023 Kia K5 GT. With the GT1 package.
I will take my 23 top line trim GT2 stinger anyday over the new k5's! The stinger is so much more sportier looking than the K5's! I see the K5's EVERYWHERE in my city. While on the other hand the stinger I can count on both hands how many I have seen in the last 3 years!
I sat in a 2025 K5 EX yesterday. I currently have a 2020 Sonata Limited and felt the seats in the Kia were quite hard and not very comfortable. It might break in or it might be that my Sonata seats are leather and the Kia seats are leatherette. I was previously considering the Kia K5 GT with the GT1 package but it looks like it is dropping off of my list. Can’t wait to try out the 2025 Camry XSE.
I traded out of my 22 K5 last year. This one definitely looks better than the Accord. Now will it hold up as long as an Accord in reliability is the question that we’ll have to see about in its later years. I’m in a FB Kia K5 group and the amount of people that have needed a transmission replacement with only 30k, 40k miles in them is wild.
@@johnfranklin5277 I had the GT with the 2.5 liter turbo 4. The transmission had to be replaced at about 36k miles. I believe the problem is more with the DCT
The lamp style or color? I'm pretty sure in the USA the DRLs are still amber like the previous. The sun was just so bright it made them look very light on camera. When he's driving back after reving the engine you can see the lights are amber.
@Ty420 That's how I felt too when I first saw the reveal, but it grew on me, just like the other odd bits this car introduced for its styling. Rather have it be a lil wonky, but still have its own kind of flare. When I saw what they did for the 2024 accord, I was so sad, lol. Plus, even with the star map shape being a bit weird compared to the old heartbeat, I like how the design sits atop the headlamps as opposed to being under it.
EX now cost more than the GT. This EX is more than my GT. With that being said. I believe there are going to be a lot of GT Lines again. Hopefully not the same color.
The EX comes with all the technology standard now. The old K5 ex had its starting trim, and then an extra premium kit to add. The new GT has a starting trim and the GT1 add on, and if you get that, it gets all the tech to match the EX and some and the price is a few thousands above the EX.
Very tempting. When comparing it to a Crown Limited (a vehicle we are looking at buying in a year or two) makes me really want this. The Crown wins with the fantastic hybrid system. I also like the climate controls more. BUT… for the price, this K5 is amazing
Ive always thought this shade of blue was real nice on the k5, but being that lighter shades of blue are my fav🩵 it would be interesting to see future models lighten up a bit! Like the celestite grey of the toyota corolla. That blue/grey look! Or a lighter metallic blue. Just for the sake of REALLY being different.
I absolutely hate Kia for putting fake vents on their vehicles. I have a 2016 Kia Optima and it's a base trim, it has functional vents, but the higher trims don't? It's weird.
Not a car I would be interested in buying, but I’m glad some manufacturers are still making sedans. The driving dynamic on a sports sedan/wagon always beats an SUV/crossover.
The 2.5 is not an upgrade Hyundai had that as their standard motor in the sonata with the 1.6 t as an option. Kia giving you less for more money ( very disappointed) they are doing the same thing with the K4 less motor , less performance, more money 😢
Been looking for one of these but the date keeps getting pushed back here in Austin. Don't need the EX the GT fwd or awd would be fine. Thx for the tour. I'll keep waiting
I have a 23 replaced factory tires at 16 k . Bald. I have had 12 trim service issues since. I keep it because the style and I got the extended warranty, so it's just annoying. Wanna charge more make quality....
Awesome looking car and an alternative to an Accord but i'm not sure I would say its better, Kia's going from turbocharged to a naturally aspirated engine is smart and also having a real gear transmission are both going to help make the car better on maintenance. ----- The big issue is according to the news even though Kia and Hyundai have supposedly addressed the (car security issues) a ton of them are still being stolen even now and they are difficult and expensive to get insurance for them.
I just brought my K5 GT 2022 to the dealership today to check the transmission. Few days ago, the car has a lot of hickups from the first to the second gear and from the second to the third. Yesterday, the car decided to not move at all. It has 46k kms. What a shame. Don't fell for the look. It's not reliable. No wonder its discontinued in Canada, no one buy up here
I'm sad they got rid of the different interior color options for the EX & GT trims. This needs to have different color options for the EX & GT trims bc not everyone wants a black interior
Kia could have kept the exterior virtually the same and just updated the interior + gotten rid of the gloss black. I love the new engine choice as well.
Hey Joe I was waiting for ur review of the new k5 glad u did im thinking to go for kia rather than accord, please try to the K5 GT I'm sure that one is gonna be even better

Should I spend $5000 fixking my Audi A3 2017 or Tracie in with this Kia , suggestions…..
The color looks great, the overall styling looks sleek and sporty, I don't like fake exhaust tips.
Looks great and a good price. Nice alternative to others in the class. Thanks for the KN 🤣 review Joe 🤙🏼
Love this redesign kia k5
Thanks Jimmy!
I wish we still got the larger Kia sedans here. The K8 is gorgeous!
I only like it in wolf grey with tinted windows😍
Can you review the 2023 toyota harrier 4wd please non hybrid version
Awesome looking car and an alternative to an Accord but i'm not sure I would say its better, Kia's going from turbocharged to a naturally aspirated engine is smart and also having a real gear transmission are both going to help make the car better on maintenance. ----- The big issue is according to the news even though Kia and Hyundai have supposedly addressed the (car security issues) a ton of them are still being stolen even now and they are difficult and expensive to get insurance for them.
I traded my frontier in for this 25 EX same color love it
I just brought my K5 GT 2022 to the dealership today to check the transmission. Few days ago, the car has a lot of hickups from the first to the second gear and from the second to the third. Yesterday, the car decided to not move at all. It has 46k kms. What a shame. Don't fell for the look. It's not reliable.
No wonder its discontinued in Canada, no one buy up here
You have the DUAL CLUTCH. That's a technology no one has perfected yet. Thier 8 speed automatic is very reliable.
I'm sad they got rid of the different interior color options for the EX & GT trims. This needs to have different color options for the EX & GT trims bc not everyone wants a black interior
Joe we need to see your red c4 corvette again!
I test drove a K5 before and it felt so nice.
I think it’s better
Big fan of Kia here, I want this car so bad…..if it has a hybrid powertrain
New Sonata offers the Hybrid.
Kia could have kept the exterior virtually the same and just updated the interior + gotten rid of the gloss black. I love the new engine choice as well.
BMW had a 2.5 inline six pushing 190hp in 1990...Literally. But it was way less fuel efficient so I guess there's some progress...
First comment wins 🎉 I win the brand new 2025 Kia K5.
Huh?
I’ll have KIA send you one
Hey Joe I was waiting for ur review of the new k5 glad u did im thinking to go for kia rather than accord, please try to the K5 GT I'm sure that one is gonna be even better
Kia should have put the same hybrid system in as the Hyundai. But this facelift makes this Kia beautiful 🔥🔥
I'm guessing it doesn't have ambient lighting
Oh I saw this car in this exact same color coming home from work, it had no tag as well so I wonder if it was another reviewer or a dealership testing car. Love the new engine, should prove to be a lot more reliable through the years than the turbo 1.6. I do prefer the looks of the 2023 one better though
Will be difficult for this new engine to prove to be MORE reliable, as the 1.6 Turbo has not been UNRELIABLE.
I like the idea of the 2.5 NA for longevity reasons. These lower displacement turbo engines are prone to issues.
That may be true Daniel!
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
Hi Joe. It's great. Kia is putting on some afterburners and going after the Japanese the designs are awesome...
