  • Shomenuch Ikkyo, how does it work? In this video I will be talking about one of the most common Aikido forms, Shomenuchi Ikkyo. This is the Omote version and I will explain what Aikido techniques are in the form of Shomenuchi Ikkyo Omote waza. I will also show how naturally these techniques happen when there is a weapon in the hand.This will be a different way of looking at the form then you are used to seeing- enjoy!

    I love the way you break this down and introduce the context. I'm going for my 5th kyu grading today, and I will definitely be holding this in my mind.

    I really love this consideration of forms comprising several techniques. This fits my understanding of Aikido very well, but explains it way better than I ever could. :D Thank you!

    I love the kaleidoscopic nature of aikidoi, at every juncture things can go any number of ways.

    This is so clear and excellent breakdown approach to Aikido, and why not many other MA forms. Thanks.

    I like what you said about the pin being the being last because it's failed the most. It reminds me of the classic example of Survivorship bias. During WWII some planes came back from their missions full of bullet holes. The military wanted to armor the areas with the most bullet holes, but a mathematician pointed out that they should armor the places where there were no bullet holes because the planes that were hit in those places didn't return. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias#In_the_military

    Hi,
    Your videos just blow my mind every time. They answer exactly the questions I have and my young student ask me often: why shall we attack this way, nobody does that. Your explanations restore aikido fundamental sense. I really enjoy to watch your videos. The ones about sparring are just fantastic as well. Exactly what I felt missing in my practice and didn’t know how to do. Please continue providing such immensely useful content. Every aikido basher shall see them. Then they would understand that aikido is actually useful and not just “dancing” around fake attacks. This doesn’t mean that aikidokas shouldn’t learn to properly attack which is often an issue…

      It does my heart good to read this. Thank you for your kind words! I'm delighted to hear you've found something of use in my approach to Aikido.

      @@ChuShinTani You deserve it. Really. There are a lot of very good aikido masters in my country who can explain the technics. However you are among the rare ones, who really try find the real meaning or original purpose of a technic in real life (application). I was never taught any sparring just randori, but it is not exactly same.
      Your video about the relation ship between the use of staff/bottle/whatsoever and how it relates to the aikido attacks were just a revelation to me. Of course aikido is not directly meant to handle attacks based on boxing technics event though it is still possible in certain contexts. I am bit tired of the debate "is aikido useful for MMA", because it is just another purpose.
      Keep posting, I am eagerly waiting to watch you new videos.
      Peace!

      Thanks, glad you're enjoying the videos! I made that tanto... In fact I made most of the weapons you see in our videos. Thanks for the compliment on it!

    Again, a mind-opening explanation. I don't know the difference between technique and form in aikido context before. But do you have video about katatedori ai hanmi ikkyo? I still confused of how you change your position while your hand is grabbed in that situation.

    • @ChuShinTani
      @ChuShinTani  4 года назад +1

      We did not shoot that technique... But I'm debating on doing a whole set of these for all of the major forms(we use 60). I'm starting to put together videos that I will sell on my website with improved resolution, audio and detail. I'll announce those when they are available.
      Thanks for your comments!

    Hi Christopher Sensei, thank-you for your explanations here I find it very useful as it made tangible what I had in thoughts. On your last point as in pin failing the most, can you elaborate that more? Do you mean Aikido pin on the ground is the least useful or that often poorly execute therefore failing? Thanks Chris!

    • @ChuShinTani
      @ChuShinTani  3 года назад

      Thank you. I mean that in an Aikido form- the goal is not at the end of the form- the end of a form is the result of repeatedly failing to achieve the previous technique. I hope that clears this up for you. Thanks for watching!
