Personally I enjoyed the Rainfurrest failure over the Dashcon and Fyre Festival failures, because Rainfurrest was much funnier, and the event organizers weren't horrible scammers.
Yeah, I've been to several MFF (Midwest Furfest) events over the years and had a great time! I like to frequent the writing panels (I enjoy writing short stories) and having fun with artist friends. It's generally a good time seeing others, gaming, dancing, and sharing creative character designs/lore. However, there are always the usual sort of haters too - the same sorts who are hateful toward anything queer. It's usually just stuff like people yelling hate speech while driving by but can also range to the more serious. 2014 still occasionally gets brought up where a chlorine gas attack sent 19 people to the hospital.
Something that IH didn't go into was that this wasn't the first Rainfurrest; it was the ninth. It started in 2007 and increased its attendance every year it was held. As far as I know, Rainfurrest had no significant issues before the 2015 disaster. It was a successful con that was on the rise, which is why there was interest for it to come back.
That Balloon Boy stuff he mentions in the end is actually one of the biggest misconceptions in the history of media to this day, and most still believe in it being a hoax without knowing any better. That follow up video on his 2nd channel of Henee presenting a mountain of evidence makes it quite infuriating that it is still the case.
From my understanding, they never got blacklists from the other conventions, so people that were banned from the other conventions all converged on Rainfurrest.
From what I remember. This was all done in like a day. Got cancelled like that night or following morning. Most of the attendees were folks who got banned from other cons for extreme misbehavior. Remember this was at a regular big hotel, too, so there would be average people there for business, vacations, or trips just staying the night. Having all that degeneracy concentrated into a place where other people who didn't come for that, it's no wonder all hotels shunned any following attempts in new years. I'm pretty sure this was also one of, if not the biggest push for internet culture to hate on the furry community for all these years. Might have been the instigator.
@@doobzsalam1847 destruction of property bringing pedophiles and not gatekeeping them by the way a lot of the people in that convention or pedophiles I don't respect.

Heyo, I actually attended that con, Midwest Furfest! Went out with the rest of the con goers whwn they cleared the building and hung out at the dog show next door. At this point most people think its the guy who showed up in the confedrate flag fursuit, considering his violent past and the fact he had done something similar at a bank once.
R'amen! I've worked as a janitor before. The messes that get left behind when some folks realize they aren't the ones who have to clean it up is just atrocious.
As a long time hotel (front desk) employee - I can say that behavior like this is far too common and very much not limited to that demographic or age group. Luckily I haven't had an experience quite that bad (so far) but some have come close. The worst I can remember was a group of med school students that we had for several years, absolute chaos, the amount of drugs and alcohol was insane. They literally brought more booze with them than our restaurant/bar keeps in stock. The second worse was a big group of 40-60 year old State Governemt office types.
"what is wrong with this people" i mean they went to a convention in a fursuit and disable the alarms to smoke pot inside their fursuits.... a lot of things.
Something that isn't explained well in the video is that most furry conventions, and conventions in general, share a universal ban list where individuals are not allowed into anything. Rainfurrest ignored that list, so anyone that did something to get banned from every other convention were allowed in. It was a prison island for furries. Also, all of this happened on day one. The whole operation was shut down before the second day.
If I remember correctly, another detail about this convention is that the majority of the guests were perma-banned from all the other cons. So imagine a load of people that got banned for being a menace and/or partying too hard all under one roof, it's not a surprise that things got so crazy so fast when that info is added to the mix. It was basically the Perfect Storm
Was about to watch an Asmongold video than I saw this wonderful little masterpiece. Now I shall sit and watch as Lila watches this dumpster fire of a convention.
This is the type of event I'd love to go to as a spectator. Not as an attendee because that costs money, not as an organizer for obvious reasons, and not as an employee for even more obvious reasons. Y'know, just someone in the background documenting the whole descent into madness.
alright, so i know that you saw my previous comment about me recommending the internet historian q&a, but I did want to clarify/add details you might want to hear. The Rainfurrest q&a is very illuminating with it adding some details like a hint to who the person who did some of the more damaging incidents, as well as some off topic details. the videos are more of a casual podcast-like, so that might be fun. But if i could ask for one more suggestion, the KONY one is very interesting as well as the follow-up q&a. one small note, there is a q&a for costa, but its very long and technical with it being mostly facts/followups and a look into the production of IH videos, so it might not be interesting to watch, though that's mostly my opinion.
I believe that once people are inside their costume or wearing a mask/disguise they could do whatever they like even though it could cause inconvenience to others cuz nobody could see their faces. They could also hide illegal items inside those suits as well.
Basically, Rainfurrest is the equivalent of Jack Nicholson stretching out that one scene from "The Departed", except it gets so much worse than before: *takes a dump in the pool* "Now, you can end the scene there, but if you keep the camera rolling..." *stuffs towels in pool motor, causing it to overheat and be destroyed* "Now, you can end the scene there, but if you keep the camera rolling..." *drills gloryholes in the bathroom stalls* "Now, you can end the scene there, but if you keep the camera rolling..." *tampers with toilets, causing the bathroom to flood and water to destroy the mainframes below*
This is what happens when you take a bunch of introverts and put them into a hotel together. Their like mindedness allows them to come out of their shells and start wrecking havok. An anime convention I attend has always had the fire alarm pulled at least once, lights removed from all the elevators. Hell, someone decided to load an elevator with a ton of furniture one time.
Don't know much about Rainfurrest itself, outside of the IH video, but I do know about the furry\anti-furry stuff and some people just really hate furries. Not to say it was an anti-furry, but it sounds a lot like it was.

Yep, that's what happened, as far as I know. They wanted to try and be as chill and lax as possible, plus some of the troublemakers had friends within the management, and so they let be a lot of really, really bad people (people allegedly known to have already SA someone at previous conventions, people who peddled drugs, people being general troublemakers, and so on), at the loss of the decent people who went there. They are known to have ignored multiple times abhorrent behaviors like those previously described, shrugging them off. That, plus "the diaper saboteur" is a real thing, but supposedly from what everyone says being more of a troublemaker dickhead rather than some anti-furry who infiltrated or someone trying to sabotage the con in favour or others. Apparently he was one of those who were blacklisted everywhere else, and also one of those disgusting people who went around with full diapers. Supposedly, also, the bulk of the damage was his and his little group doing (yes, group, since he didn't operate alone), especially the toilets and hot tub stuff, but nothing else was never really confirmed aside from the littering of trash, food and diapers, of which I remember a video existing showing him and his friends doing that plus few more of his exploits, nowadays these videos being unfindable (he had them uploaded on his channel if I remember correctly).

At this point, and I know it's really easy to just say this, but I would just show up and do the thing anyways. Like just make a shitstorm out of it, you know? Fuck it. They don't have the right to do this and unless there's some bigger legal consequence I missed, they can't really do much to punish them for it.
