its been 40 years since I first tuned in to this great Scottish singer songwriter, Paisley should be so proud of this guy. I'm sure they are ! Gone but certainly not easily forgotten !🎼🎵🎶🎧
The radio stations back in the early eighties played a couple of his songs till I was so tired of them. This song wasn't one of them. Stations should mix up an artists work instead of wearing out just one or two. Just saying it would have been nice to hear this once in awhile instead of right down the line 10 time's a day.
Tonight I watched a billy. Connell program and hee mentioned his friend grrry rafferty ,so vi thought I’d give hims xa listen and he was great thanks for the music
OK, the "water of life" part in the song. Has this been used in a more recent song? Just played this version to my 13yr old daughter, who said it sounded familiar...
"Get It Right Next Time", from the Album "SNAKES & LADDERS" is well worth a listen. Mr. Rafferty CONTINUED to crank out good songs that I'll always love, but am still discovering now, due to no airplay.
"Waiting For The Day" Well here I am, back in town Just as the night is comin' down Warm wind blowin' through the trees I watch them swing, I watch them sway Lie here waiting for the day. Sleep won't come, I need a drink Stop my head, don't wanna think Wishing I could be with you But I know you're so far away And I'm here waiting for the day. Water of life pour your light down on me Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea Water so sweet you can open my eyes You can bring down the rain on this desert so dry. Out on the street, shadows fall Silence speaks, I hear it call City of the living dead Count the lights on the motorway Lie here waiting for the day (alright). Water of life pour your light down on me Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea Water so sweet you can open my eyes You can bring down the rain on this desert so dry. Yes here I am, back in town Just as the night is comin' down Warm wind blowin' through the trees I watch them swing, I watch them sway Lie here waiting for the day (alright)
Encore un sacré titre de Gerry RAFFERTY, pas assez reconnu à mon avis, il n'y a pas que Baker street !
Waiting for the day. Quite possibly the best rock ballad ever. Comes from quite possibly the best album ever.
yes
An every-track-is-magical album. What a f'n album. Listening to City to City "gets at" me each time.
me too
I can’t put into words how poignant and beautiful this song is so I guess awesome little gem is the best I can do.
One of his best!
I take it those who gave it a thumbs down are a bunch of heathens 😂
I believe the term rhymes with 'bankers' 😃

Canada: "wankers" (?)
@@stevefrasier8269 The term is used in Britain too

Sometimes as a term of endearment, eh?
Americans: "jerk-off" (as a noun)
Rafferty at his very best, with an epic "water of life......" break. He opened with this classic number when i caught him in concert back in 1993.
You can find the CD of that concert on RUclips
@@SmallPersonRoo The show i was at was the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
ironically in Rafferty's case, the Old Irish word for whisky is Uisce beatha - literally 'water of life'.

YOU LUCKY SOD 👍
Still least I have all his stuff on vinyl and a rocking set of equipment too spin em on ✌️🇬🇧
The "thumbs-down" shouldn't even listen to music? Much less Gerry Rafferty!
right
Well said 👏 👌

Hugh Burns masterfully rocking solo.
Agree ! Huge performance !!

With the risk of being accused of heresy: This is my favorite track from "City to City" - "Baker Street" notwithstanding!
When a song has such an impact it’s time to wake up

Recorded this album onto cassette back in college. This last great song got cut short.
Someone else who put an LP on each side of a C90! Needed both sides of a C60 for this one 😎
Un Bon ! Un Grand ! Punaise de Morceau !

Profound Lyrics . And Great Musicians !

Topanga Canyon memories playing this going stupid fast. Yes!
My lucky number is 3, so I just had too be the 333 like…..well I suppose the fact that I play Rafferty least once a week 😁✌️🇬🇧
I’m so glad someone posted these songs. He was a very nice guy at least to me…

Simplemente uno de los mayores genios musicales de la historia. Ojalá más gente apreciará tu arte, Gerald.
Why is this not first track on this album instead of the last?
Seriously.
Me Too!
Mixed by Bob Clearmountain who Bob Geldof described as a mastercraftsman working with sound

"Waiting For The Day"
Well here I am, back in town
Just as the night is comin' down
Warm wind blowin' through the trees
I watch them swing, I watch them sway
Lie here waiting for the day.
Sleep won't come, I need a drink
Stop my head, don't wanna think
Wishing I could be with you
But I know you're so far away
And I'm here waiting for the day.
Water of life pour your light down on me
Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea
Water so sweet you can open my eyes
You can bring down the rain on this desert so dry.
Out on the street, shadows fall
Silence speaks, I hear it call
City of the living dead
Count the lights on the motorway
Lie here waiting for the day (alright).
Water of life pour your light down on me
Take me out of this darkness, sweet star of the sea
Water so sweet you can open my eyes
You can bring down the rain on this desert so dry.
Yes here I am, back in town
Just as the night is comin' down
Warm wind blowin' through the trees
I watch them swing, I watch them sway
Lie here waiting for the day (alright)
