    I bought this guitar used at a Guitar Center after playing it for just a few minutes, just because of the quality construction and the specially voiced pickups. It is a very versatile, inexpensive, studio guitar!

    New pickup more clarity and organic...but stock not bad overall.

    I know it makes me sound like a snob, but before this came to my attention, in a million years I wouldn't have thought there could exist a reason for me deciding to buy a New-Cort, it's possible I'd but a used but not new. I've been servicing and repairing guitars for almost 15 years and with the exception of some custom made guitars from small boutique luthier, I've have had pretty much every brand and model on my bench. When this came in I was truly and sincerely dumbfounded with the design and build of it.
    Personally while I will replace these stock pickups, I will replace them with something similar but with lower output. The ones are nice but the fact that the guitar has an Ash body with a maple top+ neck, the guitar is brighter than I typically would go for, so I'll get warmer sounding pickups

      Hello, it's nice to read so many words from experienced person. My previous experience with Cort was also bad, especially with frets which were very soft and disapearing very fast. This G290 has much better quality. About pickups, this guitar is some kind of experimenting platform for me, I don't know much about choosing pickups for kind of wood but I know what kind of sound I'm expecting. For sure I'm very proud of current neck pickup. This sound on clean is 9/10 for me. About bridge pickup I'm still searching, Looking forward to read any suggestions from your side! :)

      @@grzesiekkulpa8735 Really? I wasn't aware of that issue with soft frets, I could see that being a real issue for people. While I use 10 gauge string sets on 25.5" Fender scale guitars, I had used 11s tuned up to standard 440 tuning. That gauge at standard tuning do wear frets faster, though I use the old style pure-nickel wound strings, which don't wear the same nickel frets as much as steel.
      I've never had to do a regret on a Cort, people who own guitars on the lower price range tend to not be too focused on doing things like that, I'd imagine that a decent regret would cost considerably more than the guitars themselves, and even on this it could be not that much less.
      Trying to do repairs like that usually are much more difficult and time consuming, when they can be done at all. Usually with the more entry level acoustics for instance are "non-serviceable." Since they are making a lot of them at a faster rate they are shortcuts taken to allow them to see done faster and cheaper. Instead of hot hide glue or even normal wood glue they use epoxy. The epoxy definitely sets much, much faster, but you cannot separate 2 pieces of wood when they use it, so things like neck resets are just impossible. Even PRS can be a pain in the ass, because they actually glue the frets onto the fingerboard. It makes the coupling if the frets and board much stronger, so they won't come out and they can sound a bit better because there are no gaps between the fret tang and in fret slot. But, it can make removing the old frets difficult at best. I could definitely see lower the guitars doing it the same thing, albeit for them it's a speed of build thing. Anyways I'll have to keep an eye on that when I'm playing one of these.

    • @grzesiekkulpa8735
      @grzesiekkulpa8735  4 года назад +1

      My experience with those soft frets comes from X series. I had X2 and played X6, both were few years instruments and had really flat frets. I also had M600 and here fret material was better I think. I didn't know that frets could be glued in some guitars, I think now quality of guitars like this G290 is very good but still some adjustments are needed. In my one nut slots on bass strings were to shallow and I needed to deepen them. I'm using Elixir strings in my every guitar which are nickel plated steel. In my Skervesens custom guitars I have stainless steel frets and I don't need to think about their wear. Also feeling when bending on such frets is much better for me.

    I find the stock pickups to be the better sounding but agree with the guy that commented that the guitar should have warmer pickups than the stock ones. It’s a bit bright. The pickups you used to replace the stock ones are a bit muddier. Maybe they work better on another guitar.

      There's one, simple way to make your guitar sound better in clean mode. Just don't play this way 😉.
