  • It is the end of January, and we are officially starting our Winter Sowing adventure for 2024! I couldn't be more excited to start seeds for my garden this year.
This week we are focusing on those plants that like to be started 10-12 weeks from your average last frost date. For me, that is things like Milkweed, Lavender, Wild Bergamot, Yarrow, and Verbena. Vegetable wise, this looks like Onions, Celery, Broccoli, Cabbage, etc.
Check out this comprehensive guide, for a downloadable, easy to print reference outlining which seeds to start now, as well as up to your last frost date. Get the "Seed Starting Schedule" guide here: stan.store/Fro...
Let me know what you are starting over the next few weeks! I am just as excited for you to start this journey with me. Yay!
    Happy Planting,
    Maria

I saw your hat & new I had to add you! I’ve been looking for a gardener that has a longer winter! Planting scheduling gets difficult when the cold turns to terrestrial rains, meanwhile your starts get huge inside!

    Great resources, thank you!
I did some strawberries in my winter sowing a few years ago and they did really great! Tiny starts at first, but were producing fruit by the mid to late summer!
Just finished this year's winter sowing last weekend 🙂

@@fromsoiltostove a lot of stuff! - mostly perennials, hardy flowers, and brassicas/greens - so I did poppies, bachelors buttons, larkspur, scabiosa, hyssop, agastache, sweet peas, stock, strawflower, alyssum, salvia, honesty, rudbeckia, and then some kale and brassicas, and hardy herbs, dill, cilantro, plus basil. I'm sure I'm missing some things 😂
Hope it works out. It's been a strange winter!

@@fromsoiltostove not specifically a cut flower garden.... I do like to make bouquets, so I'm sure I'll be cutting some of it though! I just tuck things into the boarders and flower beds around the house, and I have one raised bed plus other planters just for flowers too. But I know I over-planted, as usual 😁

Where are you located in OH? Asking because so am I in the metro Columbus area. Suggestion for you. I take an erasable marker and number my jugs and then record on a piece of paper by number what I have put in each one. This was I can see from the outside what I planted and don't have to use the sticks. I just did abut 30 of them last weekend.
