    Welcome to NZ. I live in the Waikato since 2009 and before that 4 years in Dunedin. I found that different parts of NZ has different types of cold or hot. I found in Dunedin hot but not as humid as the Waikato can get, so the hot down south I could handle better. While the winter in the North Island feels more damp, I experienced winter down south a dryer cold. I have lived most of my life as a north Islander and found the South Island very beautiful.

    About the climate. I used to believe the climate was similar to Ireland and the UK. However, nine years out of ten NZ has a good summer. Most of the North Island also has mild winters, no snow and little frost. Queen St, is not the prettiest place in the CBD. But at the bottom of the hill, you have Britomart, Princes Wharf, The Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter. All exceptional. Ponsonby is also worth a visit for the bars and cuisine.

    • @hudsonquay
      @hudsonquay 3 месяца назад +1

      I don't know where pople in the UK get this notion from. Auckland is equivalent latitude to Malaga in southern spain. You can grow citrus, avocado, passionfruit and even bananas. NZ from north to south is equivalent distance as Denmark to the South of France. Huge mountains mean there is much more climate variation. Where i live in Hawkes Bay normally has 2500 hours of sunshine per year, which is nearly 1000 more than the sunniest place in the UK.

    • @carrier411
      @carrier411 Месяц назад

      @@hudsonquay yes I agree. I think people need to know we are an oceanic-temperate climate, which means the oceans influence our weather - so changeable weather esp with El Nino or La Nina patterns changing things around, and pack a jacket no matter the season.

    Anyone else remember the top of Queen St being called China Town. It definitely used to look and feel like China Town back in the day, and it was a great spot to shop, eat and meet new people. Not so much these days though. Auckland City used to hum, and it just feels empty nowadays. Which is weird because the population of Auckland was a lot less back then. I guess with the concentrated spread of urbanisation, people no longer have a need to travel City Bound for things they couldn't normally find in their local neighbourhoods. Thank you guys for your awesome views on Auckland. Always nice to hear what people from overseas think and feel, be it good or not so good :)

    A walk from the top of Queen street (from Karangahape road) all the way to the end at the waterfront is a good start to visiting Auckland and the CBD. The Auckland CBD is very occupied by Asian cultures, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc. Auckland doesn't squarely represent the rest of the country, once you've driven south of the city, you'll see a different country. You can go to Rotorua, Waitomo caves, Tauranga, the Coromandel. There was one clip of Tauranga which is another one of NZ's most beautiful cities.

    The shops in Upper Queen St are the longest continuous shop frontage in NZ.
    It's been nominally designated as "Chinatown" however Asians prefer either Dominion Rd or Sommerville. The slope on Upper Queen St is quite chronic which is, (I suspect) what it got designated as a Chinatown... basically no-one else could make a go of it.

    Not many people know this but when the British first came to NZ they nicknamed the Maori people the "Irish of the Pacific", comparing them with the same personalities and traits. Also they first named the North Island "New Ulster" and the South Island "New Munster" I have seen old copies of maps of NZ labelled like this. The name of "New Zealand" of course comes from the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who first named NZ after a small coastal town of his home country in the Netherlands. Aotearoa is the original native Maori name for NZ meaning "Land of the long white cloud". Kia Ora.

And, although the scenery is a lot like NZ and it does rain a lot, I think the weather patterns are very different. He also showed me the mountains there. Um, we would call those hills. I was wondering if our mountains really were spectacular, but coming home after a few years, yes, they are.

    Hello
    I’ve just discovered your channel and have added subscription.
    I lived in Auckland 1999-2008. Even then it was expensive.
    I now live in Dubrovnik. Relatively speaking, the cost of living is more affordable for me over here than it was ever in New Zealand.
    By my calculations you def arrived there in June or July and it’s not the nicest time of the year.
    Had you ever travelled to New Zealand before you landed there last year?
    New Zealand relies a lot on immigration and about 10% of Auckland’s population identifies as being from Asian
    I shall watch more of your videos but in case you did migrate to New Zealand I hope that you are settling in well and enjoying yourselves.
    Cheers
    ZZ

    if you are fair skinned you can burn in 10 minutes in the NZ summer. it's our proximity to the sun, the ozone hole, and purity of air, and we can have very high UV levels - so I wouldn't compare Ireland to NZ weather-wise. We have changeable weather, so maybe that's what you mean, and very high rainfall on the West Coast of the SI in particular but we have decent summers here, but be prepared for changeable weather.

    Have any New Zealander have time to ask the government ? why there are no regulations on private market for pricing the basic resources necessary for middle class or for poor people? what is making all the food product companies to increase prices? WHILE YOU THINK it’s all genuine , companies are busy milking extra profits on cost of your pockets . Private companies are just holding the stock for a month or so to increase the demand , and re launching the product with new price tag every time , when the other company see the price increase for the same product , they also play the game of demand and supply. And here we are thinking why everything has doubled or tripled in price in few months 😅, good luck asking for a pay rise coz u can’t afford a loaf of bread for $10. Rich people who can make difference , it’s too cheap for them to talk about this price hike, coz they can afford it 😅, it’s there status at stake if they care about base prices , colonised system fails 😅
