    It would interest me to see what a full bucket of stone or dirt adds to weight. How it compares to what you have on the rear. I think this kind if stuff is cool as well. Great video!

    I have 200lbs of rim guard in my radials on my 2021 1025 r. I agree with you 100 percent. Mowing with the rim guard is a bit heavier than my last 2018 1025 r.that did not have it. But the extra ballast helps make the tractor a whole lot safer on hills.

    This is really helpful for me. The majority of us tow a trailer with 2 3500lb axles. My trailer weighs 1800lbs. So I know I have a 5200lb load capacity. Makes me feel alot more confident now knowing my normal configuration is around 3500lbs.

    Great info. Tim as usual. As a Trooper (former career/ret.) I saw so many folk playing dangerous games with load limits on trailers and insufficient towing vehicle capacity. Sadly, for some it did not end very well! However, I thought the "X" on Johnny X would have made him the clear winner in the weight class category. LOL!

    The best comment you brought up here, was how much does it weigh when you put it on a trailer to tow. The majority of people these days unfortunately don’t consider that. Thanks again Tim.

    Very good information. With regards to towing, too many people only consider the axle rating. You also need to consider the hub and rim, plus and especially the tire ratings to truly understand your trailers max weight capacity, and there are other components that could be considered like tire pressure, springs, coils etc. Anyway great video .... you got people thinking ... Looking forward to more testing.

    Yeah, I was surprised when the "4900lbs shipping weight" 5320 somehow ended up making an 18' 10k trailer weight 12k, with the loader, wheel weights, and stump grinder. That was about 2k more than I thought it was going to be. We were still under all the axle weights because of a WD hitch setup and 20% tongue weight, but it was definitely surprising!

    So much for that 3500 lb tow vehicle I was considering for once or twice a year towing. Even with aluminum trailer it won't haul much over the base tractor. Way cheaper to pay-the-man if it needs to move which also eliminates having to remember all the details for loading and tying it down.

    I second Jamie Macleod’s comment. It would be interesting to see how a full bucket of dirt or rock effects the balance and overall weight of the machine front to back with and without the heavy hitch ballast on the rear. I think a lot of eyes would be opened to how important ballast really is to the safe operation of the tractor when moving material around in the loader bucket.

    Great video. I wonder if in a future video you might be able to put a load in the bucket or on forks and use your scales to see how having weight on the 3pt or not will change the weight recorded at each axle. I think we all believe that following JD's recommendation for rear weight would take some of the pressure off the front axle, but I think you could actually prove that out with your scales. I'd guess the loader mounts are the main contributor to the weight difference over the spec weight. Its always interesting how fast the weight adds up, and how easy it is to get beyond the tow capacity of your vehicle, or carry capacity of your trailer. Thanks for taking the time and showing some different combinations. It takes more time to change configurations, but I swap my rimgaurd wheels off and change to as light a mowing configuration as I can, then pile on the weight for loader and snow work..

    And by the way for comparison my BH77 back hoe for my Kubota B2650 specs around 900lbs and the sub-frame was 125 lb i believe but it might have been 100 lb. And the bucket is 29 lb for 10 inch up to 47 lb for 24 inch..

  • @tokencivilian8507
    @tokencivilian8507 2 года назад +1

    TTWT: You allude to the point I'm going to make, but don't address it directly, when you state that generally the heaviest tractor with low weights is best for traction and tip resistance. Center of gravity. Getting the center of gravity (CG) right, does wonders for stability, be that a tractor, cars, trucks and SUVs, ships or aircraft. It would appear that your scale set up can give you individual wheel weights. It would be easy to calculate the fore / aft CG of the tractor relative to the axles from those individual wheel scale weights. Then knowing the weight of material in the front bucket (density of crushed rock, or bark, or whatever in terms of lbs / yard - easy to find tables on line), one can easily estimate what the stability margin might be (e.g. once the relative weight on the front axles exceeds some threshold relative to the back, then it gets tippy). Vertical CG can also be deduced from scale readings, but that is a lot more involved as the vehicle needs to be pitched up to a non-level condition (intuitively, you probably get this, as you know that if you drive straight up a steep slope, you need to worry about popping a wheelie as the weight shifts onto the back wheels if you're pitched nose up too steep - this is the same principal for determining vertical CG from axle weights and pitching). I happen to work with aircraft as a weight and balance engineer, 25 years in the business. The professional society, Society of Allied Weights Engineers (SAWE) covers the 3 main branches for the profession - aerospace, maritime (don't want to capsize after all) and land vehicles.

      I have a 2002 S-10 Chevy, 4WD, extended cab with the 4.3 engine. It's rated at 6500lbs towing. It did not have the factory tow package, but I installed a frame-mount hitch. My 16ft trailer weighs 1800lbs, with two 3500lb axles, so that gives me a 4700lb load limit due to the trucks towing limits. I also carry about 200lbs of straps, chains and other equipment in the bed. So, I figure I am good for another 1000lbs besides my 1025r on the trailer. I usually carry just one other implement besides the backhoe and loader being mounted on the tractor.
      I'm sure your 1500 is better suited than my S-10! It's also good to have both trailer axles with brakes. A lot of them only come with one axle brakes.

    I remove as much weight as possible for mowing. I like my stripes, so the wheels run in the same tracks almost every time. The less weight the better. If I was going around in random circles or different every time, I think it would be a non-issue for dry ground.

    I care about knowing the weight to size the proper trailer and ballast for the loader. I'm looking at the 1025R and already have decided on a 10k lb rated trailer with a 3/4 ton 4wd truck with 5th wheel hitch.

      i tow mine with a 7k trailer and a tacoma 4.0. it does fine. thats overkill for a 1025r unless you plan on upgrading oneday.

    Shipping weight of HydrosPlus is 18lbs, but only about 10 is incremental when installed since the pump is being replaced. I wonder how much that seat plastic weighs on the new one. Did you account for that? ;)

    I wonder what my 3025e weighs with the grapple and box blade on. I also have filled rear tires. I’m guessing 4200

    It would be neat to see how having a full load of dirt in the bucket changes the weight of each tire, doing the weighing with both ballast and with out it. I think most folks don't realize how much more weight the front tires have to hold up when they don't have enough rear ballast. I'm also curious about the side to side weight...should more weight be put on one side over the other?

    I have a 7k dual axle trailer that can handle a 1025 TLB. It came with ramps rated for 1500 lbs.😑

    Have you seen the ballast calculator spreadsheet that was (at one time, but I think no longer) available from John Deere and was circulated on the usual tractor forums? I have a copy saved to my computer (I can't currently find a working link online), and while it doesn't have the 1025r, with the weight recordings you just took, and a little bit of time in the spreadsheet, you might be able to add a new sheet that covers the 1025r (and possibly your other tractors). It might be a great help to the community overall.

    You talk about tractor weight. Can a Ford F-150 1/2 ton safely haul it? At what point is a tractor to much for your existing truck to haul. This make a lot of difference on what implements someone may want to add to their tractor.

    Wish they would get rid of the aluminum transmissions on these subcompacts. Make it heavier and better. Can't see saving weight there is a good thing.

    any chance you could do this on a 3e series? specifically a 3038e? need a trailer and checking load weight

  • @ProjectsWithPat
    @ProjectsWithPat 2 года назад

    Tim. It would be nice to know the weight ratios front to rear with all the ballast in the back. You know how much weight is on the rear tires with an empty bucket then load the bucket up with gravel and weigh again, people might be surprised to see the weight will be less on the rear tires with more weight on the tractor (in the loader bucket).
    Maybe so the same with no rear ballast. Just trying to give others a numerical number to show WHY they need ballast.
    Your scales don’t have to be able to read out all 4 corners individually. Just replace the front scales with 2x4 wood so the level is correct.

    How much does the kubota weigh

  • @tfunkhou88
    @tfunkhou88 2 года назад +1

    What’s interesting to me is according to John Deere the 1025R has a front axle that is rated at 1349lb and a rear axle that is rated at 1576lb. Which adds up to 2925lbs. Which…and correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not THAT bad at math…is less than the basic operating weight you’ve shown. 🤔
    Why does Deere put axles on the tractor that are rated for less weight than what they say to use for ballast and the tractor is capable of lifting?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  2 года назад +1

      Right. I have reached out to Deere with some questions on the axle ratings. So far no response. Perhaps we are mis-interpreting the numbers somehow? Would be nice if they explained how they rate them.

    • @tfunkhou88
      @tfunkhou88 2 года назад

      @@TractorTimewithTim so, I may have gotten some insight into it. I downloaded the owner’s manual and in the specs section for axle weight ratings it says “Maximum (continuous)”, which leads me to think the axle rating is for how heavy you can make the tractor and keep it that way. Then when picking up loads and stuff you can go over. How much over? Dunno 😂

    I have a fairly new 1025r with a loader. The loader slowly lowers (about 1 inch per minute at the bucket with no load) even with the engine running. I took it into the dealer. They tested it, said it was within JD specs, and charged me $97 and sent me home. My salesman is still upset about this. Does anybody have a solution?

    How many people are overloading their trailer? MY enclosed tandem trailer is 7000 GVWR. Trailer weigh's 2550 pounds therefore my GCWR is 4450 pounds. I have always assumed my 2025R is all my trailer wants. Trailer was ordered with up graded tires but that does not change GVWR. I like the scales. Have you done anything to confirm accuracy?
