1. SWAM woodwinds and Brass
2. Sample Modeling Brass
3. Cinematic Studio Strings
4. Embertone Violin, Viola and Cello
There's your all star lineup.
No one is gonna beat SWAM instruments anytime soon in my opinion.
For piano would get PianoTeq and for guitar would get Ambertone
Got to be one of the best videos of 2020. So comprehensive and so professional.
Thank you so much!
I'm dipping my toes into this end of VST's and this video helped explain a lot of price points for what you get and what's needed for certain things and whats not. Thanks for the content!
My pleasure!
Birth of the trumpet sounds fantastic! Cool with the delay. Berlin inspire are are interesting. None of the strings libraries do totally convince me. I use Spitfire stuff for that, but they are not perfect either. You are the strongest voice in music technology review in year 2020! Happy new year Christopher🥳
That means a lot, thanks so much!
How to improvise tutorial when? For real, your improvisation is so much fun to listen to, thanks for the video chris :D
Haha good video idea! I’ll add it to the list.
The French horn sounds in the Nucleus library are absolutely amazing!
Birth of the trumpet is my standout library here - the extra realism with the smart delay is brilliant. I also liked Strezov's Jade Ethnic Orchestra.
For those of us on low budgets, it's worth mentioning that Spitfire do a cheap entry level version of their BBC Symphony Orchestra (BBCSO discover)
which just has some of the basic articulations and omits solo instruments, and the extra articulations and the multi microphone choices of the more expensive versions.
Best thing if you're on a low budget is that they'll generously let you have a free copy if you're willing to complete a survey and wait a couple of weeks -
or you can buy it (I think it's around £49 or so) and get it straight away. Obviously, it doesn't cover as much as the larger versions, or the other libraries
covered here - but it has some nice sounds and enough to get you started.
Happy new year everyone!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jerry. Indeed, Birth of the Trumpet is game changing. Happy new year!
a wow collection !!!! awesome piano playing !!!!
Many thanks!!
So thorough. Happy New Year!
Happy new year!
great round up Chris ! happy new year!
Cheers, Happy New Year!
OMG Vista Strings, I'm melting like butter!
😍
great video. these libraries are expensive and you usually can't try them before you buy them. so hearing all of these like this is great.
Glad you liked it!
Hey Chris! Looking forward to it 🙂
Cheers Josh!
Thank you very much for that great, detailed and very helpful review. Personally, I found the Cinematic Studio Series very playable and instantly inspiring (CSS, CSSS and CSB) and use it a lot for my short film work.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
I ve been waiting for this
Enjoy!
Fantastic round up, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work, bro!
happy new year christopher
Wow ! you have it all
So glad I got JXL brass... completely addicted to that dynamic range! :P
So good!
Wow, your piano playing is sooo good! On a sidenote, some other ethnic library suggestions would be all the Eduardo Tarilonte libraries, from bestservice. Covers a wide variety of ethnic instruments and soundscapes and well done!
Thanks for sharing!
Eduardo's libraries are a bargain. They are extremely beautiful and unique, and very cheap compared to the possibilities they offer .
Hi Christopher! I found your videos and I'm hooked tbh haha I would like to get into making film music/scoring with fl studio and I got all the needed gear and libraries and a decent amount of music theory knowledge. I was thinking is there a good way to get into making film music and using an orchestral library? A happy new year a bit late!
I’d say just download some free video clips and start practicing! Plenty of great film scoring tuts out there.
Whats the best orchestral vst library option for low end pc ?
Do I have to buy kontakt for the kontakt vsts
Palette is worth a look for the brass alone!
Amazing ;3
Thanks!
I’ve got two main ones: BBC discovery the free version and then the Ark bundle. BBC is nice because you have each instrument. Ark is nice for the variety of utility
Rockin vids
Wow! You offer excellent, detailed reviews Christopher (my brother's name ;-). I bought Miroslav Philharmonik 2 a few years ago; realistic sounds but complex, not intuitive, also essentially orchestral and not suited for jazz. I don't have the time/resources I'd like to test or buy multiple libraries so the info you provide is super valuable. Especially great how you describe the subtleties and nuances of instruments and their various features. MANY thanks, keep up the fine work. Cheers from Boston, MA.
Thank you very much!
I used the original Miroslav to write a sort of 'more-funk-than-jazz', track many moons ago. The muted brass can give you some mileage, if you don't mind it sounding like a Korg emulating the roaring 20s on top of new-age-meets-Metheny string ambience.
Do you know of any string libraries with fast portamentos? For example The Asteroid Field from The Empire Strikes back type fast portamentos?
Spitfire's chamber strings have some great legato portamento patches :)
Aaron it's is the best
I will watch the video just to strengthen my belief that the best libraries are Berlin Brass and CSS. As for woods I still have no favourite :( Happy New Year, everyone! Fuck Covid and may the Music be with you! :)
Happy new year!
really good stuff, why don't you do any tutorials of how to play your nice jazz melodies on the piano section?
I might! ;)
fantastic video review, watched it till the end. Chris could you throw some light on some great organic, synth, ambient pads, i love making cinematic Music, Trailer music, pls do suggest some along those lines, thank you in advance.
I'll definitely consider it, thanks!
@@ChristopherSiu awesome waiting for it
epic
I wish i could buy them all! 🤔
Thank you sir! I was wondering, how much storage capacity do you have to store these Libraries. haha
I have 2 4TB HDD’s and 2 2tb SSD’s now :)
Great video! I'm just wondering what you think of the albion series from spitfire?
I've never used them, but they are good libraries for broad strokes and fast work. All depends on what you need.
@@ChristopherSiu im a beginner(to orchestral stuff) so I'm just working with free stuff for now (except for Komplete 13 standard), I may save up tho, thx for the advice
Hey Chris, can you recommend any library with Celesta, Dulcitone, Glockenspiel etc (Idiophone)
I love CinePerc, but check out Mallet Flux for individualized perc!
@@ChristopherSiu Thanks! But unfortunately at Mallet Flux there is no Dulcitone (I only found it at Keyscape)
Hi Chris what king of midi controller do you use for expresion, dinamic etc. midi cc
I use the Arturia Keylab 88.
@@ChristopherSiu Hi Chris is the Arturia Keylab hammer key MKII? Thanks
Guys help me, what am I missing lol? I have Heavyocity Symphonic Destruction, Damage, Nucleus Light and some more atmospheric pad stuff. I prefer more Zimmer style cinematic. I feeling like a missing component in my music is solo stuff, I just want to fill in some holes to bring my pad stuff to life.
Audio Imperia's Solo is great for some solo instruments!
What is the absolute BEST orchestral VST?
This is my question
Are there also some „hybrid“ orchestras who are also good for classical?
You might like Spitfire’s Albion series!
Hey, are the Cinepianos all different recordings, or is it just EQd differently to make 4 different pianos?
All different recordings I believe.
@@ChristopherSiu awesome thank you.
Hey Chris !! Dou you have an opinion on ProjectSam´s Orchestral Brass Classic ?
Nope, never used it!
@@ChristopherSiu Damn I was considering them. Anyway thanks for answering !!
I find it to be a mixed bag. There are definitely some rough edges and spots where its age shows a bit. Sometimes it’s got just the sound I need for a particular passage, though.
@@joecardello yeah, I´ve been seeing reviews and demos and they don´t fully convince me. I am now looking at Bravura Scoring Brass, which I can get for 50 more euros (When I apply for an edu discount) and I feel they give me much more. But anyway, when I have the money I will consider it.
This is the thrid time I come trying to watch more than one minute of any of Christopher vids/ I just can't. Pitty because there's some good content but.... hard to stay. Happy 2021. Bye
Hey Ces, no worries! If my content isn’t for you, I’m sure you’ll find plenty elsewhere. :) cheers!
@@ChristopherSiu As I said, the content is what is good. You might consider some -maybe plenty- of your audience, watch your videos with headphones, or earphones. And you have a particular way of speaking that makes it hard on the ears. The lips snapping, the tong sucking, you might not even realise you do it but on the headphones feels loud and harsh. Not trying to throw any crap on you. Honest feedback.
No offence taken, thanks for sharing!
@@ChristopherSiu congrats on the growth of the channel! Bests
I really want to get Solo Strings by spitfire how come you haven’t done a video on that?
Don’t own any spitfire stuff!
@@ChristopherSiu why ?
@@ChristopherSiu no spitfire stuff?? But that’s like a tech support person not owning any windows computers!
I’m a rebel
@@ChristopherSiu cmon give us the hot take
How do you have so many money ?? 😖🤔🤔
EWQL still relevant a decade and a half or so later?
I'm surprised you ignored the fine Sample Modeling library
Wow not a single spitfire one?
Nope! If you’re looking for spitfire reviews, I’m not the guy, sorry!
