    1. SWAM woodwinds and Brass
    2. Sample Modeling Brass
    3. Cinematic Studio Strings
    4. Embertone Violin, Viola and Cello
    There's your all star lineup.
No one is gonna beat SWAM instruments anytime soon in my opinion.
For piano would get PianoTeq and for guitar would get Ambertone

Birth of the trumpet sounds fantastic! Cool with the delay. Berlin inspire are are interesting. None of the strings libraries do totally convince me. I use Spitfire stuff for that, but they are not perfect either. You are the strongest voice in music technology review in year 2020! Happy new year Christopher🥳

Birth of the trumpet is my standout library here - the extra realism with the smart delay is brilliant. I also liked Strezov's Jade Ethnic Orchestra.
For those of us on low budgets, it's worth mentioning that Spitfire do a cheap entry level version of their BBC Symphony Orchestra (BBCSO discover)
which just has some of the basic articulations and omits solo instruments, and the extra articulations and the multi microphone choices of the more expensive versions.
Best thing if you're on a low budget is that they'll generously let you have a free copy if you're willing to complete a survey and wait a couple of weeks -
or you can buy it (I think it's around £49 or so) and get it straight away. Obviously, it doesn't cover as much as the larger versions, or the other libraries
covered here - but it has some nice sounds and enough to get you started.
    Happy new year everyone!

Wow! You offer excellent, detailed reviews Christopher (my brother's name ;-). I bought Miroslav Philharmonik 2 a few years ago; realistic sounds but complex, not intuitive, also essentially orchestral and not suited for jazz. I don't have the time/resources I'd like to test or buy multiple libraries so the info you provide is super valuable. Especially great how you describe the subtleties and nuances of instruments and their various features. MANY thanks, keep up the fine work. Cheers from Boston, MA.

I used the original Miroslav to write a sort of 'more-funk-than-jazz', track many moons ago. The muted brass can give you some mileage, if you don't mind it sounding like a Korg emulating the roaring 20s on top of new-age-meets-Metheny string ambience.
