Hi from Mexico! I just bought a clay pot that has a glossy finish inside and out. They told me to cure it just with water. So I filled it up and put it on the stove. After boiling I let it cool down with the water inside all night long. I am not sure if I did it right. Is it safe to use it for drinking water if it has this glossy finish? Should I do something else with my pot to make it safe to store water? or should I buy a new one?
Bought new clay pot and washed it and poured tap water and left for about 24 hours to remove any mud smell, I threw that water cleaned and filled aquaguard water, later I noticed it's having fishy stinking smell. What is the reason and what to do?
I have clearly shown in the video to add warm water and leave for it to cool completely then add drinking water. Reasons why the water could have a stench: The water may be left in the aquaguard tank for 2-3 days. In summer sometimnes even purified water could have small algae groth of left unsused for 1-2 days. The filter in your aquaguard could not be cleaning the watewr well and may be time to replace it. If these things are ruled out then the pot could be in a sunny area where the water could grow algae. the pot itself could have small crack and crevices inside for algae growth that may have not been cleaned well. check for any uneven surface and cracks. if you check all these things and still same i would ask you to please clean the pot well with vinegar and salt solution(safe for you compared to dish cleaning soap) and repeat the curing process meantioned and dry the pot for one day. Then wash with clean water and add drinking water. Hope this helps. :)
Thank you for the response. I have added normal tap water and left 24 hours to remove mud smell so maybe bcz of that it stinked. I will be cleaning regularly my aquaguard tank every month as I have AMC, even aquaguard guys visit and clean it regularly and check out the filters so the tap water is the one which might have caused the fishy smell. As per your video cleaned with salt and water, then added warm water and left it to cool. It really worked and no more smell. I added aquaguard water now and no smell. Thanks to you for the instructions in the video. It really worked like a miracle. I have even forwarded your video to my friends also.

Yes.. you can drink all around the year.. but in winter and rainy season there is a chance of moss growth.. so if you take care of that you can drink 😊
divya piplani you cannot scrub the pot like you do with a steel utensil. You have to be gentle so you don’t chop the soil. I have mentioned that in the video as well. Gentle scrubbing won’t cause much damage..
Don’t worry you can still drink water from it.. just clean the pot the way I have shown and after cleaning fill water once and discard and then add again for drinking.. since you used detergent only once it should not be such a issue. I would not recommend regular use of detergent to clean the pot as it is very porous and can absorb the detergent. Hope this helps 😊
@Sanskriti GM Vohra I have shown how to clean the pot and cure it.. so please use that process and fill water in the pot and keep for a day.. then discard.. again fill water and keep for a day and discard.. this should reduce the smell.. slowly it will go completely..
I would suggest alwasy to fill the pot only till 75-80 % capacity that goes even for curing the pot.. Never fill th epot till the brim.. wheteher it is warm water for curing or drinking water for cooling.. Hope this helps.. :)
Gloria Fernandes One of the reasons could be the cool nature of the water as you stated.. but it could also mean that the pot has moss inside that could cause allergic reaction like sneezing 🤧
Gaddam Madhavi What kind is insects are you seeing ants or worms? If it is ants you see on top of the water then you can sprinkle some turmeric powder around the pot near the base and this will deflect the ants.
@@SahanasWorld we got some termites like insects ..we cleaned the pot thoroughly still there r some..what to do?not only that I have seen some of these insects crawling inside after I pour water into the pot from small holes outside the pot
Termite problem could mean that the pot has some place for them to reproduce or they might have a hive nearby.. if your problem is not solved with regular cleaning you can use boric acid powder only on the outside to clean the pot very well and rinse very very well. Then sun dry your pot till it becomes warm repeat sun drying for 2-3 days. Then thoroughly clean the pot and start using. Probably you may need to change the place where you keep your pot..
Tejaswini if your pot is new then just fill water and observe.. Sometimes due to incomplete kilning process the pot may have tiny cracks.. many a times these cracks will stop oozing water in a day or two.. but if it continues you need to change the pot.. get a new one..
Ther may be small cracks on the surface of the pot.. try to find it.. it’s not too big you could use water proof m seal to seal it.. also you can cover a old cloth around the seeping area to soak water.. or put a thick cloth below the pot.. but sometimes the seepage can increase algae growth.. so I would suggest try and fix with M sealer on outside. If you still can’t fix the leak please replace the pot with new one and use this pot to grow some plants 🪴

@@SahanasWorld mam under se black brown colour ki mitti hona normal hain na kyuki vo bahar se red colour ka hain under se brown -black
@@rudranshmaliya6125 Yes it is normal but you have to make sure you wash till all the mud water is gone and clear water comes..
Drinking muddy water is not very good.. make sure the water is clear or you can discard the water at the very bottom and use the top water to drink
I had bought a pot. But to check the leakage the seller poured water in it. Water was too much dirty. Now I am confused how to clean it. The pot might have absorbed that water. The water may or may not be contaminated but to be sure how should I go by cleaning it to remove any impurity that might have crept in. The pot is at my home for a week now. I have left it as it is for now.
Spirit Of Soul Fill your pot with water and keep for a day and change again next day and keep for a day this should take away any muddy smell and top impurities.. then wash once with salt and vinegar this should clear out any seeped in impurities.. Then again fill clean water and keep for a day and throw away the water then start using it
@@SahanasWorld thanks. Last query what should be the quantity of salt and vinegar with water should I use to wash it in one of the steps.
Spirit Of Soul use about 1 tbsp of each and use a soft scrub to wash them rinse thoroughly with plain water 😃
@@SahanasWorld Yup wouldn't forget the rinse thoroughly with plain water part 😄 with all other steps.
Thanks for the help. Finally will be able to use the pot. Waiting to use it. Much memories of it during childhood. Take care.
Spirit Of Soul glad you like it
My pot has a leak somewhere. How do I plug it?
You need to find the leak by observing the pot carefully and try to fix it from outside using M seal but never fix from inside. If it still leaks after fixing from outside may be you should replace your pot with a new one ☝️
Hope this helps 😊
@@SahanasWorld Thank you, I'm very appreciative of your work.

Hi ,by mistake for the first time I have used detergent twice to clean pot but later realized that's wrong, so shall I use same pot by cleaning as mentioned in video or need to buy new one ?
Harsha Choradi No, you can use the same pot but fill the pot with water and keep for one day.. then throw the water then clean as shown here and start using the pot
@@SahanasWorld thank you very much 💥💥🎉
Harsha Choradi Most welcome 🙏
My pot, is not cooling what to do pls tell ??
How to remove the red colour inside the pot?It is harmful or not?
Do you mean to say the soil dissolved in water is giving red colour to the water?
If it is soil then it is safe but the taste may not be good. Keep changing water and wait till all the soil particles are gone and no more soil is dissolving in drinking water.
If it is not soil but some dye then please check and make sure your pot is not painted from inside. If it is dye or paint please return or change your pot. It may not be safe for drinking water.
@@SahanasWorld thank you so much
my pot is white inside is anything wrong with it? I tried cleaning it with baking soda.
Hemanth That could be salt build up due to hard water clean it with salt mixed with cooking soda will go away but rinse very well after scrubbing 🧽

Your video is helpful but i wanna ask question ... I bought one last evening
But in the night i saw some water below the pot .... So is it normal or my pot is not suitable ???
Help me ASAP so that i can return it ....
Lakshya okay you want to check the pot if it’s leaking correct?
So empty your pot and wipe it dry as much as possible and then add water again and keep it in a dry space then see if it’s leaking and find out if it’s seeping or cracked then think of returning if possible to do it
@@SahanasWorld ok then u mean the pot should be dry from the lower surface also ... Ryt ??
And if its not then replace it .. ok ... Thanks 😁
Lakshya yes correct
@@SahanasWorld i went to him and he siad that this is that kind of moisture mm which is available on the outside of the chilled water bottles ...
Actually my pot is not of rounded type ... Its in cylinderical shape .. so he said these kinda pots are heavy so little bit water would be there and he also explains me that in rounded pots these kind thing is not there .... Because they are lighter in weight
Lakshya Thanks so much for the new information. I did not know this..
What size pot are you using?
I am using a 5 litre pot 😊
@@SahanasWorld Ma'am, my earthen/clay pitcher did not come with a lid, its like a water jug shape. Im guessing how you prepare and cure it is the same way, but, what about the lid? Can I use anything? Like wrapping the top with aluminum foil or a plastic wrap.

Ma'am can I drink earthen pot water whole year or only in summer?
Yes.. you can drink all around the year.. but in winter and rainy season there is a chance of moss growth.. so if you take care of that you can drink 😊
How much it cost for medium pot?
It depends on where you buy it from.. if you buy from a local store it may cost you anywhere between 150-400 for a 5-8 liters pot..

Thanks for the video I have one query, is scrubing safe as it may erode the soil..
divya piplani you cannot scrub the pot like you do with a steel utensil. You have to be gentle so you don’t chop the soil. I have mentioned that in the video as well. Gentle scrubbing won’t cause much damage..
I used liquid detergent to wash it inside so now I can't drink water from it? Please reply
@Sanskriti GM Vohra use salt to scrub the inside of the pot and it should go away..

Hi, Should we add warm water till the rim for curing or one bowl of warm water is enough?
I would suggest alwasy to fill the pot only till 75-80 % capacity that goes even for curing the pot.. Never fill th epot till the brim.. wheteher it is warm water for curing or drinking water for cooling.. Hope this helps.. :)
It keeps leaking is that normal how to stop it
It could be condensation

is it safe to use clay pot painted on the outside
Yes but you have difficulty cleaning the pot also if you can make sure that the paint is not chipping off
Nice, your pot is CRACKED NOW!
I am drinking water from earthen pot these days...but iv started sneezing N Ol... Is it cz of the pot water as itz cool in nature
Gloria Fernandes One of the reasons could be the cool nature of the water as you stated.. but it could also mean that the pot has moss inside that could cause allergic reaction like sneezing 🤧
How to clean clay water bottle
I have not used one till date because I had the same question.. you cannot use a bottle brush in it.. so honestly I can’t guide you here 😊
my pot is having small very tiny insects, how many times I cleaned they are reproducing again & again ,how to remove tiny insects
Gaddam Madhavi What kind is insects are you seeing ants or worms?
If it is ants you see on top of the water then you can sprinkle some turmeric powder around the pot near the base and this will deflect the ants.
yesss right
@@SahanasWorld we got some termites like insects ..we cleaned the pot thoroughly still there r some..what to do?not only that I have seen some of these insects crawling inside after I pour water into the pot from small holes outside the pot
@@SahanasWorld I usually boil water... Never used filtered or RO water.... Is it OK to continue using boiled and cooled in the earthen pot?
What to do if the pot is oozing
Tejaswini if your pot is new then just fill water and observe.. Sometimes due to incomplete kilning process the pot may have tiny cracks.. many a times these cracks will stop oozing water in a day or two.. but if it continues you need to change the pot.. get a new one..
is mud pot can remove salt and heavy metal from water ?

Is ever clay pot is same as one for flowers or plants ?
Jacek No the soil used for making utensils is made from refined to avoid lead poisoning..
@@SahanasWorld pls how do i know..the difference..the one for cooking and plant.. Because they all look the same in the market.
Jacek you may have to ask the seller whether the earthen vessel is free of lead..
Mam there have wetness on floor due seepage of earthen pot....how to i avoid it?
Ther may be small cracks on the surface of the pot.. try to find it.. it’s not too big you could use water proof m seal to seal it.. also you can cover a old cloth around the seeping area to soak water.. or put a thick cloth below the pot.. but sometimes the seepage can increase algae growth.. so I would suggest try and fix with M sealer on outside.
If you still can’t fix the leak please replace the pot with new one and use this pot to grow some plants 🪴
