I feel like a lot of people with qx7s aren’t aware that in open tx2.3 u can finally adjust your power button delay time to 0 so it’s a instant on off switch. I’m sure u have already had a video showing this, I just haven’t come across it yet. It’s a much needed fix, so happy I felt I had to tell someone lol
The reality is that your videos are a lot of help for what we are starting in this great world of drones, I have this radio control and you can not imagine how happy I am with these tutorials of the use, so I can get the best of the benefits to this control
@Walter Watson Im sorry for ya, but it seems InstaPortal is a Virus. I would suggest ya not to trust any kind of hacks or anything. If ya really want to hack something, write your own code, so you can be shure that everything is clean and wont be detected. Ya boii ninia963 ;-)
I just do not understand why people give your video thumb down when all your video are so informative. I think people are just jealous of your success in RUclips and that a lot of people enjoy your video.
Was trying for over an hour to setup play track on a switch global function from within Opentx Companion, thinking I was missing something as no tracks were in the list. I could do it on the radio, but that meant painfully scrolling through hundreds of tracks. I think I figured it out though and that was I’d missed a setup step in Companion that was to setup a local (computer) copy of the SDCard and point Companion to its location. Without doing that you can’t select or play any tracks in companion. I had incorrectly assumed that companion just interfaced with the radio allowing us to use keyboard and mouse for setup instead of buttons on the radio...what a noob
Some time ago i couldn't find and AIRMODE soundbyte for my switch. Since then I've been ripping the feature names from your videos. You are the voice of my taranis Joshua (mostly)
Josh. Do you have a Video showing How to Take A Song (come Sail away)from Internet and install on you SD Card that is in your FrSky X10s transmitter? Thanks for the Lesson on Open TX. Gory
I had an idea to use POTS for volume control, only didn't that so far because of being lazy. Sorry about that :) Actually it is enormously useful idea for configuring quad/Taranis somewhere where you don't wish to annoy people around (configure quad in workplace office in mine case). Wish I know how to completely silence Betaflight when USB cable is attached to FC. Disabling USB warning only doesn't help mute FC beeps when receiver is not turned on.
May want to mention that if someone cannot find their sound files they loaded on their SD card, it is usually filename length. OpenTX 2.2, Sound files must have no more than 6 characters in the filename (excluding the ".wav" extension). OpenTX 2.1 and before sound files must have no more than 8 characters in the filename (excluding the ".wav" extension). Sound files go in the "SOUNDS/en" folder on the SD card for English. (SOUNDS/it - Italian, SOUNDS/fr - French, SOUNDS/es - Spanish, SOUNDS/de - German) Trap for new players. :)
This is very helpful for a newb like me. Thanks, I learned something today, JB, It should be fairly easy on the Nirvana since I figured out the variable audio volume Pot yesterday.
How do I get my radio to tell me pit mode is enabled through telemetry? Sometimes I lose signal and activate pit and it doesnt go through. I need it to tell "pit mode" when the drone is actually in pit mode not just when the switch is triggered.
@@JoshuaBardwell Ah ok bummer. Thanks so much for all your videos ey. They got me into this hobby and have also kept me in it for the past year. Happy Flying JB!
Thanks Josh for all of your great information I have a QX7 that I used a lot of project blue falcon's information to set up can't wait for your next video to see if there something there I can use. I also have a question have you had any problems out of the new beta flight 3.2 as to having to update the firmware on the fc to get them to work my x220 was flying great until I hooked it up to the new betaflight and now bf doesn't pick up receiver it's bound but receiver doesn't show in bf found a couple pilots on line that said flashing fixed this am going to try tonight after work but any advise is appreciated thanks for all the good info and HAPPY FLYING TO ALL!!!
JB, is it model specific or common for all models? If it's common, is it possible to set sounds to a model in specific? Thanks! 😊 P.S.: In my case it's going to be the difference between Betaflight/Butterflight quads and a quad I'm going to build with the DJI Naza Lite. 😉
I have a simple music player LUA script on mine also. It acts like a kind of iPod shuffle randomly playing one of the 10 music tracks I put on. I love to fly with music, so if I forget my mp3 player I can use the taranis to play some music. There are simple ones you can set up (like the one I use) or more advanced ones that have skip pause, track name etc This is the simple one I use rcsettings.com/index.php/viewdownload/13-lua-scripts/254-simple-background-music-player
Josh, how do you get the track to keep playing while the switch sounds are going at the same time. In other words, I want to play tracks and sound at the same time. Thank!!👍😄😃
Thanks for the info brother. Isn't there a way to get custom sounds on the Taranis? Like having my daughters say "airmode" or "turtlemode" thru the radio.
Good stuff as always buddy. Thank you. Im just catching up with this stuff having recently picked up a Q X7 after my trusty 9XR Pro gave up the ghost. I've got a bit of a challenge for you...maybe...running OpenTX 2.2.2....do you think that once you've got a switch set to call up altitude ...you could instead use a Knob to call altitude AND create some sort of Logical Switch or Special Function to use a Knob to vary the time between calls.....so at the start of the Knob say it called the altitude every 20 seconds further round on the Knob would decrease the time between altitude calls...say 3-4 positions decreasing the time between calls by seconds in each position. Then you could have the vario running on a switch and have the altitude calls being called over the vario. This could be great when RC thermal gliding. Sometimes an update every 30 seconds is fine to know what the sink is actually like but then when you hit a nice thermal and the vario is screaming be nice to get the altitude calls every 3-5 seconds and really know whats going on up there. Anyhoo thx for your continued awesome vids.
Can you play music on one of these like upload a custom made audio file and have it play? I am able to do this with things that record and play back audio like dash cams, toy watches and digital cameras. Heck I tried it on a toy spy bug and the audio was garbled but it worked. You just need to create a file the device can read and play back. Not sure if this radio controller can play back something like a wav file.
He Joshua. First up, I just wanna say thanks for all the stuff I'm learning from you. Are you also going to show how to do model and flightmodes (although flightmodes aren't really a thing for multicopters) specific sound files. I've been trying to get this to work but I haven't gotten it to work 100%. Cold and windy greatings from the Netherlands.
Model specific sound files? The special function configuration is model specific so it seems like all of them are model specific. For flight mode specific sounds, that would be trickier. I would want to look into whether I could set a Global Variable or Logical Switch in response to which flight mode was active, and then build the Special Function to be dependent on that.
If memory serves, it involved making a directory on the SD card named after the model and putting sound files in there with SA_UP for instance in the name so that file will be played when the SA switch is in the up position. This does not occupy a Special Function slot. But like I said, I never got that to work consistently. Also, in hindsight, I'm not sure what the advantage was over just using Special Functions.
Hey Josh, is it possible to have a playlist? Every time I flip my arm switch I've set it to play "shit is about to get real". It'd be good to get a different one each time I armed !
I don't know of an automated way to do that. I could think of a clever way to do it with some kind of randomization and a different logical switch for each file. It'd be difficult.
I set timing, but as I want it to accurately tell the actual start-stop, I use the throttle > -98 for the triggering. But then every time I reduce throttle below -98 timing stop counting. Is there any better way to trigger timing? Or how could I prevent the timing to stop once it had started?
Create a sticky logical switch that becomes true when the throttle goes > -98 AND arm switch is armed. Then it doesn't become false until arm switch is disarmed. Then base the timer on that switch.
Hey guys is it just me or did I just happened to notice in his past couple of videos his background is different areas of his house... is he secretly building a new Quadcopter Studio?

Can you make it play a track, but if there is another sound like an alarm, just play it over the track and not after it? (would be useful if you want to make it play a longer track but don't wanna miss your alarms...) Thank you very much :)
I'm not sure how this works to be honest. If you have to conflicting special functions can one play audio over the other? Would be easy to test but I have never done it.
OpenTX on FS-i6 - are they serious? Of course it would be good if they will manage to squeeze OpenTX inside i6. Only flashing will be a serious pain - FS-i6 doesn't even have an USB port.
Since I can’t get it to read my voltage at a certain value Per your other video step-by-step I have no idea why it won’t work. can I get it to read my voltage when I flip the momentary switch. When I said it up for this video using V.Fas it only reads zero votes
If VFAS sensor exists but reads 0 volts, one possible explanation is that telemetry used to work (so VFAS got detected) but it is not currently working (so it currently reads 0 volts). Check in the Betaflight OSD and see if it also reads 0 volts. If the OSD reads correctly but the Taranis VFAS reads 0 volts then you need to figure out why telemetry isn't working on the quad.
