That drivers insurance should pay you for the cost of the machines. Outside of that, if you thoroughly dry them before you start them most of them should be salvageable.
Getting trucking companies insurance to actually pay out is a huge run around and almost never worked out for me. It totally sucks that I happened for sure though. Thanks for the support I appreciate it 👍
Love that the software calls out of bounds conditions "ILLEGAL" and not "invalid". It makes everything sound so much more serious.
For real 😆
Just a guess... Maybe it says "ILLEGAL" cause there is a way to enter a service-menu or something that makes the move "legal"?
Im really pissed for you that those machines weren't tarped, thats insane how bad of a condition that put them in. I used to run warner and swasey turret lathes, i didnt know they made cnc machines either. neat!
Thanks man. It totally sucks that they got wet because I’ve never seen Werner and swasey CNC machines and thought it would be something cool to have one and sell one. They even have the manuals! They NEVER have the manuals lol
Just discovered your channel and I am loving it! I always wondered if some of the cheap cnc machines were worth the effort. Keep up the great work
Thanks for the support! There’s definitely some good older machines out there.
Dude!!! Impressive purchases. I love it that you are re-homing these machines and giving them a second life.
Thanks for the support I ready appreciate it!
I had a WSC-6 once upon a time. Paid $500 for it, fixed the turret problem and sold it for around $1500. I recommend doing a parameter backup of both machines. You'll have to Write down/take pictures of the PMC/Diagnostics. The 0 Model A's you can't punch those out.
Thanks
its called a Hall Effect Switch for whoever hears HALIFAX SWITCH
It’s whatever you want to call it 😂
The parameters of this machine are missing. The memory protection battery was lost due to damage. The solution is to find a machine of the same model and copy it, then input it into the machine through the RS232 port. Or you may have enough patience and perseverance to input the parameters recorded in the manual into the machine one by one. Believe me, there are thousands of parameters in total, all containing 0 and 1. That's just a nightmare.😭😭😭
thousands? maybe 50
There are thousands of parameters that you need to input.@@blauschuh
Dude, the cut to the Atomic Bomb when power was switched on was great! 😂
😂 thanks I appreciate it!
Keep going on these vintage CNC machines! I have 30 years into this trade. Love seeing what you are doing here. You have a great space and remind me of myself 30 years ago! I still have a 1980 More Seiki SL3B that runs great. Yasnac 2000G control. Still makes precision parts all day. Those WS lathes look nice for 2-3" diameter parts. The Fanuc O series is a bit clunky, but they work. The Fanuc 18 was a huge jump up from the O controls. If you see lathes with the 18 in the future, jump on those. I have 4 lathes with the 18 and its still my favorite control. All the best to you!
@@jakebpau2396 thanks for the support. I really appreciate it. I actually just purchased 2 Matsuura machining centers with Yasnak controllers. I bought them without seeing them so I’ll be doing a win they run video as soon as they come in. I taught myself CNC on a Matsuura with Yasnac controller but it’s need forever since I’ve used one. May need your advice on the control when they come in 😀
I recently bought a sight unseen kitamura mycenter zero, get it delivered next week, hope they dont forget the tarp 😢
Make sure to remind them about it. You don’t want to end up with a total loss. It’s happen to me several times unfortunately. Thanks for the support I really appreciate it. Check out some of my other videos if you haven’t yet 🙏
idk how the algorithm knows i want a cnc mill again. i havent even googled it or anything. wtf
The internet is always listening 😂😂
Super cool! Looks like a fun project to me regardless of the outcome. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the support. I really appreciate it 🙏
I was the Maint. manager in a small shop. We had 6 WSC-6's they were good production machines with few problems. They are imported machines that Warner Swasey sold before their demise. Biggest problems were with spindle belts, they are a strange plasticized material. Slip the belts once and they are DONE!! PITA to change!! You may be able to get new overlays for the control panel. I had New ones made for the WSC6's.
Just wanted to add that WSC series machines were built by Murata for Bendix, sold as Warner-Swasey's
you're going to usually have a REF button or something on the controller, it looks like on this unit there is a "setup" button that is flashing that is the smoking gun. Its actually not far from homing a 3D printer before you begin a program
Try chucking handfuls of rice in the puddles will absorb the water and easy to vacuum out
Thanks 😁
If you come across, big-size ones. I will be interested in buying for retrofitting.
Thanks for the video, these are great. I enjoyed the one a few weeks ago where you cleaned up the machines. Right now I work old manual machines. When I know enough I’m thinking of picking up a CNC machine.
Nice man!! I buy and use manual machines too. I taught myself CNC through RUclips actually and you can too.
As others have said, let the electronics fully dry out and they should be ok. I bought a car amplifier years ago that got soaked when then fire sprinklers went off at the dealer. It was dry as a bone when I got it and it worked perfectly when I fired it up. Good luck.
Thanks for the support 🙏
Excellent job figuring your way through problems.
Thanks I appreciate it! Check out my other vids if you haven’t already 🙏
I ran oneof these they are really cool to use small footprint
Keep up with the great videos. Old school tool back from the grave
Thanks I definitely will
Same control as my '82 Citizen Cincom F-16. The drives at 1:19 & 2:07 and other boards might be useful to me !
These would be good candidates for control retrofits. Just gut the controls and start with 2023. The mechanical stuff will go for many more decades.
Absolutely I think I may sell one and keep the other one to retrofit. I’m pretty sure the servo drives our step and direction so I should be able to tie right into them with a modern control like UC CNC, that I use on my plasma table.
Check for buildup of chips on the Z axis it may be overloading causing the breaker to trip . I’m amazed they both started after getting wet
Thanks. I’ll definitely check that out 👍
I'm not surprised. Cnc machines are quite robust they can sustain quite a bit of water
Very nice!
I hope to see more on the cnc lathes.
That would be sweet to get one and learn how to pump out gearboxes with it.
🙏 thanks
try holding down can+p while powering up, that should disable the limit switches if you are suspecting them, inspect all i/o cards for power and ground.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it
The algorithm sent me - this stuff is really neat! CNC machines are a lot more interesting than I though they would be. Such a shame the trucker didn't put a tarp on them, especially on the two older machines. I am curious - do places still run these old machines, or are they essentially greasy paperweights?
Awesome! Glad you checked out the video. Yea a lot of places definitely still run these old machines and make money with them.
In China, I am currently using a CNC machine produced in 1988, made in Japan. So far, this machine can control a tolerance of 5 microns.😀😀
@@kuan-k4m Awesome!
When I was a CNC operator one of the machines I operated was an old late 70's early 80's index CNC. Honestly loved that machine since it had a conveyor belt loader system that you just sit the parts onto little cars and the machine would grab it and take it. It had a index control computer that swings like most fanuc controllers but you had manual controls on the machine itself. Was a process to shut down for the day. Controller, turret, chip conveyor, coolant pumps 1 and 2, loader and unloader arm, and parts loading conveyor.
Rule of thumb with any cnc machine, if its paid for and you can get it running/keep it running for next to nothing then do it, because save for juice and air/ tooling, as long as its making a part its making money. Old machines like this have good homes in allot of jobshops in america, not a whole lot you can't create with a Lathe.
There is a rubber hose in the end cabinet near where you moved that belt It is Kinked.
when zeroing you need to let go of the axis button when the axis slows down.
It's quite sad to me when i saw that machine in that condition, i have been saving my money almost 2 years and i still can't afford to buy my dream lathe, wish me luck guys. 😢
man i’d love to find a deal like this. i’ve been considering buying something like this and completely restoring it
The deals are out there. It just takes some time to find them. Thanks for the view!
Hopefully you get those to run. I'm a machinery mover/rigger and I've never seen that brand Warner / Swasey. Learn something new everyday. 👍
Thanks man. I appreciate it 😀
I bought a 80s hurco mill and updated all the Cnc stuff to a new computer and drivers and it works great. those old machines can make for a good Donner for cnc DIY projects to convert all that old junk to new digital drivers and computers. There are a few companies that design all new stuff that can convert those older machines to use all the new state of art hardware and software. I would just make sure that ways and that the machine itself is not wore out. If it not there pretty easy to update.
Sounds like an awesome machine!
I can bet you’ll do great with these.
Thanks I appreciate the support 🙏
We kept a big turret punch press running with and upgraded tape reader converter BUT it was always one step from DOOM
Nice!
Weird bed and turret layout, seems like there is a big X/Z slide table behind the spindle?
I’ve never seen this layout either
If you change your shutter speed on the camera the screen won't flicker on video.
Thanks for the tip!
I'd really go to town on the drivers insurance in the first instance. Try to screw them for every penny.
I have had a number of instances of control gear being accidently soaked, spraying a load of WD40 over everything certainly helps and then some gentle heat and a good draft. You need the WD on pretty quick to help prevent the corrosion.
I have been servicing W&S cnc machines since the 1970s.
Would you consider parting some of these machines out?
If I can’t get them running I would
Question: is the screen flashing for you as well or is it just on thr camera? Lol, just busting chops, excellent work and interesting video.
Just in the camera. Thanks for the support I appreciate it 🙏
The flickering is caused by the refresh rate of the screen being lower than the frame rate of your recording device.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it
You have to manually feed the material in ?
I like used machines. Do you sell any of them? I like fixing them. I am looking for a tool grinder, surface grinder, and maybe a shaper. I sure would like to talk with you. I’m retired USN disabled. I do like to restore the old machines but don’t have a lot, thanks for considering me.
Hi. I emailed you back. Thanks 🙏
just got your message this morning customers keep coming by i will call first chance i get
I’m in Evansville. I have 3 tsudakoma 4th axis rotary tables I’d like to get rid of. 2 are 8” and one is 12”.
Not really looking for one but how much are you asking
@@prestigemanufacturingky $400 each, I’d be willing to work out a deal if someone wanted all of them.
Anything electronic will work if fully dried before turning it on. Mechnical stuff not so much. best option is bags of salt to soak up moisture. Road salt is cheap as hell and you can pack pillowcases full of it into machines to soak every last bit of moisture out of the air. Make sure to lay down some plastic sheets first to keep salt dust out of the machine.
Thanks. I’ll definitely try that!
Please dont!!
Hot (warm) air is the only moist absorber
The salt will not absorb but atract water
There are three LEDs named T, Z, X under ZERO POSITION. Does the toolchanger should be homed/zeroed before work? If yes, can You share how to? Yesterday connected my WSC-6 (got it without mains transformer, so got a replacement to that) and now try to became familiar with machine.
Pretty small work area for that lathe. Colour reminds me of Hercus PC200
😀
So did the grinders and manual machines ever dry out and fire up? I can't imagine they are toast, I've seen way worse stuff work just fine
Haven’t had a chance to find out yet.
you have to turn off the emergency stop switch. then move the axis (X, Z) away from the home position(towrard spindle, away from limit switches) then Home each Axis
I got it homed out but still can’t get the jog wheel to work 🤦🏻♂️
@@prestigemanufacturingky i run a 2001 YCM lathe with fanuc 0T controls. with mine, when i fire it up i turn on the NC power, release the emergancy Estop, switch the dial to jog axis, make sure i have room for the machine to Home in both X and Z, then swtich the dial to home the machine. once thats done, the machine will operate as normal
@@jaredfaustino6493 I bet my dial is broken
Where the heck are you getting these things for $400? Even if the controls were completely fried, you'd make out pretty good with a linuxcnc conversion as long as the bones are good.
I got these from a business that closed
I paid $16k for mine. Almost identical, but 1996. Had to restore tool changer as well as counterbalance hydraulics. Accurate to about 4 µm.
Wow!
The Fanuc parts are worth what you paid. Otherwise you won’t know how good of a deal it was until you start making parts.
I agree. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!
Turn that breaker back off might be wired for it to be off
Thanks for the info
To zero a fanuc you have to jog it off the zero position, and then home, if you try to home when it's on zero it will over travel and error.
🙏
When electrical controls are damaged by water, soak or spray all parts with WD40 (water displacement formula number 40) then dry everything off.
I actually mention I did that in the video 😀
Sorry, I missed that.@@prestigemanufacturingky
To be fair... With the amount of much cheaper cnc control gardware out there, one could always put Centroid controllers on a messed up machine. But it is a pain in the ass and its not for everyone.
Trying to move the machine with your hand while it is on is a very bad idea. I know a machine tool repair man that did that, the machine kicked on and went to home. It sucked his arm around the ball screw broke it in 20+ places and way covers peeled the skin off his arm like a banana. Not worth risking your fingers/limbs.
Thanks for the heads up!
Where do you buy these machines? Online auction?
These came from a company that closed
@@prestigemanufacturingky I see. How did you find them? What was that website you showed a screenshot of with the machine listing?
At 26:05 you can see that one of the hole is bend and maybe block. maybe that a problem ?
Other then that cool video keep at it !
I’ll check that out for sure! Thanks for the support 👍
Would this machine be good candidate for an upgraded control?
Absolutely
Seems like a score to me. What about the possibility of an insurance claim for the damage? Even if you didn’t pay extra for insurance, the lack of a tarp changes the contract completely. I all of the riggers I know have to have insurance for such things. Cheers man.
Thanks man I appreciate it🙏 check out some of my other vids if you haven’t already
@@prestigemanufacturingky Will do! Have enjoyed your adventures with old iron. Hope the RUclips algorithm puts you out there more…
@@bhoiiii 🙏🙏🙏
I have the same fanuc ot on one of mine cnc’s
Recently replaced the button panel
I couldn’t get the jog wheel to work even after I homed the machine. Is there something I’m doing wrong or do you think the jog wheel doesn’t work?
Jog is disabled in programmed setup so it wont matter if anyone swings it
You have to put it in manual setup and choose if you want x or y axe
Good luck
Ill check here if you have anymore questions
I dont know how to put this machine in manual setup
I have a selector switch that i have to turn for mdi, auto, programm or jog
@@bertjetolberg103 ah ok
@@bertjetolberg103 awesome thanks
Did the cost of the machines get refunded from an insurance claim with the trucking company?
Not yet.
I love stuff like this.
Me too !
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Thanks 🙏
working doesn't mean they hold tolerance. They are probably worn beyond use but still function.
Is that your professional opinion lol
Yes! Some might still hold a reasonable tolerance but betting they are pretty worn. That said, you can't go wrong for what you paid. Parts alone are worth a bundle. @@prestigemanufacturingky

Spray the hell out of everything with WD-40 that's what that stuff is designed to do displace water

Fun! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Should’ve forced the truck driver to be an indentured servant until he worked the cost of the machines off
😂
Nice video my guy. I want to buy a old cnc machine someday😁👍
Thanks 🙏 I always come across machinery. Let me know when you’re ready and see what I have in stock! Thanks for the support I really appreciate it. Check out my other vids if you haven’t already 🙏
I hope the purchaser was compensated for not being transported properly. This is sad that someone trashed all these. Driver should be fired. I would cut one of my toes off to have these machines.
It totally sucks
Suggest get busy with the shop vac for the water - it'll take months to evaporate!. I see many days reading the instruction manual + purchase of a Dymo Label maker LOL!
its going to be a long process for sure!
Not ready means you have to home it
Come close to the jaw with the - buttons then move away 4 or 6 inches with the + buttons and it should catch itselves
Usually have to jog a little ways off of home before you try to home.
Thanks 😁
Nice machines, I like messing around with old machines like this, for future reference the NOT READY alarm you see can be attributed to many things when it is not displayed normally, most commonly it is a malfunction in the emergency stop circuit, missing parameters, stuck on a hard limit on power up, or worst of all a defective main board.
As for your blown breaker when homing, not fully sure how these particular old fanuc drives are configured, but it may be as simple as a defective limit switch causing a Z axis overload when it is going into to the hard limit past the switch. simple to troubleshoot and fix if so.
Thanks for the advice!
Cool videos man
Thanks man I really appreciate it!
Where did you find this machine
A company that closed down
Get a shop vac on those
I did off camera
Who's in charge of the shipping ? That's their problem
im in va if you wnt to sell cinncinati mill.... Powhatan powder and fab
Prestigemanufacturingky@gmail com
Email me your info
Call out the shipping company, they need to be held responsible. Small companies may rely 100% on used machines and to pay for the load to be dried in and be exposed is unacceptable.
I called them out, believe me 😳
You did well.
Thank you 😀
I think you got a great deal.
Bro you gotta sue the truck driver or company
🙏
You were super lucky with these two, I had a complete dud of a lathe that I scrapped and now the replacement that I bought was delivered by a cretin who damaged the bodywork lifting it with a hiab and then left it outside uncovered for 4 weeks. I'm currently still evaluating the damage. 😢

He's just invaluable
😂😂I noticed how many times I said it as I was editing the video and figured I’d leave it in and see if anyone said anything. You’re the first one.

File a claim with the trucking company 😮
Make a claim against the carrier's insurance for the manuals, your time and any damage.
Also demand a refund for what you paid for tarping.
I know dealing with insurance sucks.
I just hate the idea of the scumbag steering wheel holder (I won't dignify him with the term driver) getting away Scot free and going on to screw other people.
