Hi, have the same DF20A, and after winter-storage it ran awfully. I had it serviced and cleaned before storage, but it turned out it overheated. A clogged coolingchannel somewhere. After 2 days of flushing and cleaning, also with compressed air (entering via the anode and/or thermostat-housing) I finally got it loose. But what it did was, it runs for 5-10 minutes, then stalls like a spark plug is faulty. But it is just a way of the engine to cool it down. After it cools below 70, it runs normal again, until it heats up again. When it overheats it also beeps and the red light is on. This is different fro your problem, but I’m telling this, as it kind of looks the same. After speaking to Suzuki and other mechanics, they all say this engine is brilliant, except for the too narrow cooling channels. So flushing is very very important, and Suzuki also recommends to pull the starter cord a few times after draining, as to get the last few drops of water out, which could cause oxidation and then clogging. I can also recommend the SDS software and cable (ODB), with it I could monitor the fault, and the temperature during tests, and at some point I saw the temp rising again above 80° (cyl.head), when the clogging released it dropped very fast to normal range of 60°. Just my 2 cents....
I have a similar issue. will idle all day long. revving causes it to bog and die out. thought it was gas related, now wondering if it's the same. how do you clean out the cooling channels? special chemical?
My DF15A had the same problem. Red light and stalling after about 5 minutes. I changed my plugs, impeller, oil. Nothing worked. Finally, I changed the fuel filter. That was it! Just my two cent worth.
Thanks for posting this. As much as these newer suzukis add more efficient running and fuel injection, these features only make long term maintainability more troublesome and reduced long term value for resale as well.. 20yr old carb engines still hold value today..can't say the same for these
Mine too. Limp mode in 4-5 minutes. Idles all day, but in gear it goes into limp mode. Does not throw any codes, but records instances of "gradient overheating". Drained fuel, replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, impeller, & thermostat. Didn't help. Dealship says its my fault, not flushing enough. Just back from Suzuki for the 2nd time, and it did it again just like before. How many times can they work on this motor for the same thing before replacing it?
I had the same problem and it ended up being the fuel line from engine to tank. Apparently the line collapsing. It looked normal but I changed it out and haven't had that problem since.
same issues. swapped the spark plugs and new non ethanol gas. although I put seafoam in gas to clean injectors... is that bad like the other stabilizers? do I need to drain the gas and put yet another set of spark plugs?
Mine did the same thing. I changed the plugs and put a new fuel filter and poured the gas out of the tank and put fresh fuel and I haven't had any other problems
Did you figure it out? Their fuel system is very delicate .. i messed mine up adding fuel stabilizer. Caused misfires and stalling. Had to drain all out and clean the spark plugs several times.
I ended up figuring it out but it was something very weird..The spark plugs had fire and looked OK for being six months old..But I'll put new spark plugs in it and it ran just fine..One man that I talk to said due to the lien burn the spark plugs need to be just right So I will definitely be keeping new ones on hand
@@BASSNGRASS cool man !! I might have to clean my injectors still having little hickups sometims while idling...My plugs have 50hrs but if that doesnt work i will change the plugs..i got a pair of new plugs in my toolbox😅they are expensive little plugs $15 piece! Im alway using fresh fuel from now on👍
@@BASSNGRASS just getting back to you...one of my spark plugs was bad with only 50hrs i think using stabilizer damage my plugs the were fouling up. Replace both and its running normal 👍
I'm thinking of getting the same motor, either a 9.9hp and either do what @LaingEj did and convert to a 20hp or get a used 20hp if the price is right. But now I'm a bit skeptical, as I've been seeing more and more of these lil Suzukis having issues with (or related to) the LeanBurn system. It seems like they're very finicky when it comes to the fuel system. Are these isolated incidents or is it the case? I just sold my 24yr old 15hp Johnson 2strk and while it was a carburated system and had its quirks, it never gave me any fuel related- or any other issues otherwise.. I just thought it was about time I upgrade to a 4strk and get on with the new technology... now I'm having a bit of remorse. Was selling my perfectly running 2stroke a mistake? Would appreciate your thoughts and comments, having owned these lil Suzukis. Thanks in advance
@@CUBICHI1985 I have a 2020 20 hp Suzuki with 105hours zero issues. I only run non ethanol gas. This is a upgrade from my 93 2 stroke 15 hp. I feel safe with this motor
Hey buddy, I saw you commented somewhere that you had to change the wiring harness on your motor. I can’t get my Twenty horse to run good either. I cleaned fuel out changed plugs cleaned injectors nothing works. Where did you order the wire harnesses. Thanks for your time if you can answer.
I just ordered this engine, however getting a bit worried now after having watched a bunch of vids with problems people have encountered. Hope it will work well.
Show the issue that I've been having with mine is I would get Smokey starts in the morning and smell Fuel and I would see rainbows of fuel around the engine on first starts then I ran into initial way it was running rough and misfiring so I took the spark plugs out and the spark plugs was fouled out and then I changed them out and it ran beautiful and now it's starting to do with Smokey starting again and I smell Fuel and I see Rainbow of fuel around the exhaust but it only does it on first starts
Hello, did you ever figure it out I have a DF15a and I’ve changed the spark plugs 2 times and check the injectors and their fine, now I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s the high pressure fuel pump, my engine is BRAND NEW 2021 with less than 5hrs with this issue already, I think it’s the fuel pump what ya thinks?
Yikes.... 5 hours? So you didn't bother breaking it in? 10 hours of break in is the norm. You can't just run it right out of the box. Alot of companies require you to idle 5 min once in the water. Then follow the instructions for break in for your motor.
For me it was just bad spark plugs.. The spark plugs in these motors are very sensitive Even though It showed spark on both plugs.. I change the plugs and That was the problem..there has to be a certain amount of spark for each plug
We have had the exact same problem and the dealer said the fuel pump was bad and changed it and it ran fine for 3 times and now it’s doing the exact same thing so good luck because I am convinced the Suzuki is junk
Yeah I thought that mine would be that to but it ended up just being bad spark plugs that looked perfectly fine.. Speaking of that I need to order some new ones for the Spring thank you for the reminder :)
Hey so I'm having a problem I just bought a 2021 Suzuki 20 horsepower for my 1448 tracker grizzly I had it installed with the stock propeller and all the kept doing with cavitating so I switched it to an 11-pitch and it's still doing the same thing is there anything you might know about propella hacks with this engine
Honestly you're just gonna have to play with different Pitch propellers.. Aluminum propellers for that boat or pretty affordable.. I had to monkey around with Mine till I got it right
@@brentcarr8365 yeah I found out the transom was too high I had to have it cut down to 16 in they come with two kinds of transoms for a long shaft and a short shaft
Hey buddy did you figure your issue out? I have a df25 and battery went dead put a new one on today and it won't even turn over now can't figure it out.
There’s a very fine filter high pressure side if it’s a fuel injected engine plus water globules get into the IAC valve which tells the engine sensors it has enough fuel my 25 had this problem it wouldn’t tick over or run at lowrevs only at high revs had to blow the system out with air and fit a new high pressure filter.
The motor is OK. Install water separator. Water in gas, killing this motor. Have the same problem. I just clean hi-pressure fuel pump, and now run just fine.
Saw a bass and grass video pop up and it made my day! Keep up the good work man.
Thanks buddy I really appreciate the kind words :)
