Just wanted to say thank you. I was able to pick up a screen online and do almost all the steps without a heat gun until I got to the screen. I went to a local shop to do that for me. Took them under an hour and cost around $20. Great video!
Answering my own (new) issue, the charger ribbon cable had become unseated during my screen replacement efforts. Once again I thoroughly reviewed your Nexus 7 diss-assembly video while doing a side by side comparison. When you got to the part removing the charger cable I noticed that mine had become disconnected (unintentionally). Following your video I reconnected the cable and normal charging resumed. I cannot thank you enough for such a complete and competent video.
Just completed this repair using the video. A bit shaky at first, but referred back to the video as needed. Took my time and wound up with zero extra screws !! Thanks for the video. Buy the way, I took the advice, and did buy the complete screen/digitizer assembly. I was able to peel the frame/screen adhesive strip away and reuse it, but I had to watch the pressure and go slow. Once I had separated the main board and metal frame from the plastic frame and damaged screen/digitizer assembly, I wrapped the plastic frame and screen assembly in a towel and placed it in the oven on the lowest setting, 170' F, for 3-4 minutes (since this screen assembly was no good, I was not concerned about heat damage). It wasn't as good as a heat gun, but I believe it did help.
You explain everything SO WELL and are amazingly measured/calm making yourself the perfect teacher! Thank you for posting this awesome video. It is worth watching for any person who just wants to know how this tablet is made nice to see how the nexus 7 really looks inside. Can't wait to try and fix my already broken first one!
Having never done anything like this before, I've now done this TWICE using nothing but this video, the little plastic knife and philips screwdriver (from the LCD replacement pack), a pair of "flat" pharmacy tweezers, to pick our all the glass shards and the wife's hair dryer!! A huge thanks for two "nearly new" Nexus 7's. I think it took me 60mins the first time (with lots of photo's) and about 35-40mins the next time. £40 from China for the replacement parts, if you can wait a few weeks.
Thanks very much. In now watching this again, this time from my fixed tablet. I thought your paced, thoughtful and thorough style was exceptional for this type of thing.
I got the opportunity to be able to borrow my friend's N7, tested it with his display flex cable, turns out it was indeed the problem! Ordering a new cable now. Again, thank you very much for your help!
You save my Nexus 7. Is not as sexy as saving lives, but almost :-) For the skeptics, it's my first repair and it has taken me about 3h30min. Thanks a lot!
I was able to replace my shattered screen in about an hour and a half thanks to your video!! Thank you so much! Your voice helped me to remain calm and patient through each step. You have lots of amazing videos and I can't wait to learn something else!! :-)
really easy to follow, saved about £180 on buying a replacement 32GB by changing the screen. Screen had a blue tinge after first attempt so tried again ensuring all the connections were in correctly and works great
Thank you very much. Because of your video I was able to replace the port assembly. Although under warranty, the charging port was physically damaged from inserting and removing the micro USB charger over the last year. Asus wanted $213 to replace it. With your video I was able to do it with a $60 replacement part and about 30 minutes.
Thank you for taking the time to make such a clear, easy to follow instructive video. Just replaced my screen and I'm up and running again. Excellent work.
I have to say this is one of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. After watching it some months ago, and waiting for the price of a new screen to come down, I ordered a replacement screen a couple of months ago. Today, I finally convinced my self to go ahead and do the repair. It went without a hitch thanks to this video. Thank you so much for your time and effort spent to do this.
great video. helped me replacing my brokenscreen in 10-15 minutes. my nexus is back after 3 months of disability. the i have paid about $150 for screen+delivery and about 10 bucks for 3m 5mm tape (bunch of it, used 30-40 cm max). thanks a lot!!
Thanks You! I was able to save my nexus 7 where the digitizer (or touch) stopped working. I purchased the digitizer and screen combo online for $50 that came with some small tools (screwdriver for small screws and some plastic pieces resembling a guitar pick to slowly remove the edges and what-not).
thank you thank you thank you... My 5 yr old broke the screen. I was able to pick up the lcd/digitizer combo for around $100 and had it fixed in about 90 min. Most of that time was picking out broken glass. You're awesome!
This video was spot on, just completed a new screen and digitiser install followed by a factory reset. Thing is brand new once again. Meticulous guide but necessarily so
Excellent tutorial. Really clear both what's said and someone who knows what a camera is for - close and clear. Thanks (just charging so have to wait and see if my diagnosis was right)
Shattered screen on a very rough boat ride in ecuador. replacement screen for $83 from AliExpress. Excellent video and instructions. Couldn't have done it with you. Many thanks.
nice post! the speakers cover the ribbon cable to the USB charge port! also thanks for pointing out the heat shields - copper foil - covering certain parts!
Thank you. That was the best video, showing the dis assembly and then assembly great video and sound work. Very clear and easy to follow. My Nexus now works like a new one.
One extra comment - it's not that explicit in the video, but he does say IF you need to replace certain items do the following, but if not, you can skip the headphone socket / docking port and volume button steps.... just leave them all in place.
Thank you very much! It was very useful. First time after I put back together the device, the digitizer didn'work, but I remembered not inserting very well it's cable. Opened it again, fix iti and it works. Thanks again!
Ha! Just finished this and the Nexus works. Very pleased. All I would say is that there are a couple of steps that aren't necessary if all you need to do is replace the screen and digitizer, but this is the most detailed guide I found. Very sound instructions, so thanks. Took me ages, but saved at least £40, probably more.
just swapped motherboards in two of my nexus 7s, one had a bad mb and one had a cracked screen! Thanks! works great and took about 45 mins and i didnt need heat gun! THUMBS UP!!!!
Thanks a LOT, I broke the screen sitting on it... the hardest part was separating all the glass bits from the bezel... thankfully not out of my butt. My opinion is that it would be faster/easier/sexier if a new bezel was supplied with the screen. About two hours, worked on the first try. thanks again!
I just semi successfully replaced my Nexus 7 screen assembly thanks to the excellent step by step in your video. When the Nexus booted up and updated all its apps I was delighted. However the device battery is not charging. I have gone back in and reseated the battery cable connection but still the device does not seem to see the charger connection. Do you have any suggestions? Have I traded one problem for another. I presently have about 40% battery left.
Excellent tutorial, many thanks. My screen was cracked badly to start off with so removing it from the bezel was a bit of a challenge as the screen itself came apart from within the centre of the bezel and fell out leaving me to pick the tape off. Either way, thank you for your video, excellent work
Ah, thanks for the swift reply :) I later saw in video you explain the difficulty to separate and join the two. Again, thank you. I will purchase the whole assembly, however I will proably have to use Ebay, unless that company ships to the UK at a reasonable cost.
good job it is an older version then the one i have but it is fine cause i only need how to take the screen apart to replace it. The skipping to next part thing really helped. I wish people did that when uploading song albums
Thanks so much for the tutorial, I'm typing this from my newly repaired nexus 7. Asus wanted €170 and I managed to get the part for under eighty. I have botched the screen adhesive though, partially because I had to pull shards of shattered glass away one by one. Just wondering if you have a link to a description of that adhesive tape you recommend? Thanks again
I was successful in replacing the digitizer assembly. I ordered a new one without the silver plastic frame. I used the old frame i had. Thanks for all your instruction Now the only thing, is the audio 3.5 mm doesn't work very well. Mono in one ear and weak even if the volume is set @ max Do you have a suggestion as to what to look at? Should i order a replacement for the audio component? Thank you
***** I rechecked everything and i hadn't close the clamp on the flex cable that connects the power input and audio to the main board... It was charging super slow too. After closing the clamp, all came back to normal :-)
Your video instructions are great. I have the confidence that I can replace my cracked screen and digitizer, but I'm not sure on what to purchase. Many websites describe these things as being separate. My screen is cracked and doesn't respond, but the picture is clear. Should I purchase the OEM Asus Google Nexus 7 Tablet LCD Screen and Digitizer Assembly or the OEM Asus Google Nexus 7 Tablet Digitizer Touch Screen? This second one looks like a clear screen. I appreciate any help you can give me.
had the same trouble. once, on some google forum i read that this problem can be easily fixed by opening the back lid, disconnecting the battery cable and connecting it back again. then put the gadget on charge for a couple of hours. then cross your fingers and turn it on. btw, keep in mind if you open the back cover the warranty will be void. may just bring the gadget to some authorized service where they will charge you about $50-100 for doing the same steps as i showed above. good luck!
Thx, very thorough - was a good reference for replacing the screen on a wifi 32gb. Some minor differences in the width of the charging port cable and the type/shape of the copper heatsink foil. Working nicely, cheers.
Awesome video! I do have a question sir. I am going to need to replace my screen as it is cracked. Is there a way to determine whether you need just the outer screen or if you need both? Thank you!
That's a great idea - and I tried it. Of course, the old glass shattered even worse in the process of taking off the beveled screen, so I wasn't surprised to see that IT didn't work when I plugged it back in... or maybe it should have worked and my flex cables are busted now? Tough to tell. But you think it may just be faulty new screen?
Its probably is a faulty screen, but it might also be worth replacing the screen flex cable, Google for 'nexus 7 display flex' and click the shopping link
exellent video, thank you. wish id seen it before i attempted to replace my screen. a quick question, if i snapped off the tiny gold jumpers from the mother board to the wifi areial (on the back of the case) can they be replaced or do i need to replace the motherboard? thank you
Nice video. My son dropped my N7 and now the glass is broken. The biggest problem whem i replace the screen is to get the broken glass parts from the alu frame. It is also impossible to keep the adhesive glue/tape that holds the glass to the frame in a re-usable shape. How can i solve that? Is the glue available?
Google for 'double sided mobile phone tape' and click the shopping link. But this stuff is very wide, so you'll need to use a few strips together. If the original adhesive loses it 'stickyness' from being touched, you can wash it in warm soapy water and when its dry it will be sticky again
Thx a lot for the Video! It is really very helpful. I wouldn't have dared to replace it myself without your tutorial! Thank you! I just have one question: The digitizer only works properly on the upper half of the Display. The whole Screen works but the Display does not react when beeing touched on the part downwards from the middle. The upper half of the Touchscreen works perfectly but not the part below the middle. What mistake could this be?
i am having just a crack on the screen just a line touch is not working at that area but at extreme bottom it is registering random touches else the screen is great so what do i need to replace ? digitizer ? lcd? all ?
the digitizer and glass are bonded together so you'll need the complete assembly like this one, you can use coupon code ETS2 for a small discount which also gives me credit www.etradesupply.com/asus-google-nexus-7-tablet-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
the digitizer is the top glass touch screen which is bonded with optically clear adhesive to the lcd display. Some phones/tables have an airgap between them which enables you to replace the top touchscreen separately
great video, when I replaced every thing back switched on ,after replacing screen I can see lines only vertical line any idea what I have got wrong. Can read files and so on. Thank Frank
Gidday I've watched your video, thank you. I have a memo 7 me572 (of similar era) which needs the same treatment is similar era, have you any tips. I have a new assy ready to go.. Kind regards Donald
Thanks for great demo. I finished but something went wrong. I have a working Nexus with replaced screen but the screen has red across it. IE when I boot up its a red background and not black. Did I do something wrong? Have you seen that before?? Could it be the screen that I purchased..? Thanks in advance,,
@14:20, when removing the screen, I heated on the screen side. In this fashion, The whole adhesive stayed on the silver plastic frame and I had no need to pry it off the old screen
Thanks I finally got it fix my Google Nexus 7 and it work like a dream if not I thing it work better thanks for the tutorial it did help a lot!! Hey what will you recommend to protect my tablet so I don't have to go true all this? I drop my and had one rally small cark and it stop working. Thanks one more time!!!
Hello, Thanks for the video. Recently my Google Nexus 7 screen was broken I can ON and OFF the tablet but i can not un lock it thorugh touch pad screen. Seems touch pad is not working. Do I need to buy Digitizer and LCD both for my tablet or only Digitizer is enough to make it workable? Where I can order these parts to do so. Please suggest me to proceed further.
you need to buy the digitizer and lcd together as an assembly, if you buy one with the frame it makes things much easier. There's a link below and you can use coupon code ETS2 for a little discount which also give me credit www.etradesupply.com/asus-google-nexus-7-tablet-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
hello sir, thanks for this video can i change only touch screen glass on my google nexus 2012 model because the only glass is broken and lcd is still fine so can i change the glass only. thanks
great video thanks, However in my tablet some things are different. The battery does nott have the scotch tape but it had more glue beneath it. And it doesnt have this black cover that you need to warm up to open. instead it has a bronze material that is like very soft metal. Do I have a different version of asus nexus 7?
Just wanted to say thank you. I was able to pick up a screen online and do almost all the steps without a heat gun until I got to the screen. I went to a local shop to do that for me. Took them under an hour and cost around $20. Great video!

thank you thank you thank you...

great video, makes sorting your nex 7 a doddle. i thankyou, and my customers thank you. keep up the great work.
Thank you. That was the best video, showing the dis assembly and then assembly great video and sound work. Very clear and easy to follow. My Nexus now works like a new one.
A very good clear and concise guide to do replacements if needed. Thanks for a good and informative video production.
I like this video the voice sounds calm and totally in control of the repair. :)
Brilliant! Thanks for the perfect instructions. Daughter's tablet lives again!
Very comprehensive review. And very good video quality too. Nice work
LE55ONS - thank you! You are the benchmark by which all other 'how to' vids should be measured.
What light or lamp do you use in your videos?
Thank you for making this video! Excellent from every angle, outstanding work!!!
The voice... so soothing...
Thanks for sharing and taking the time to this art and patience of dissasembly and assembly. cheers!!
One extra comment - it's not that explicit in the video, but he does say IF you need to replace certain items do the following, but if not, you can skip the headphone socket / docking port and volume button steps.... just leave them all in place.

it probably shorted something inside which caused the restart, if it works fine then nothing to worry about
Great tutorial!
Thank you very much. Thanks to this tutorial i managed to replace my screen on Nexus 32Gb 3G and now all works fine!
Excellent tutorial, many thanks. My screen was cracked badly to start off with so removing it from the bezel was a bit of a challenge as the screen itself came apart from within the centre of the bezel and fell out leaving me to pick the tape off.

yes I hope to cover it in the next few months..
If I had more time I would do it now..
good job it is an older version then the one i have but it is fine cause i only need how to take the screen apart to replace it. The skipping to next part thing really helped. I wish people did that when uploading song albums
I hope to cover that one day..
Thanks a lot, this was very professional! The video quality was amazing. Very helpful, thanks again!
No good video
Everything went great thanks to your walkthrough. Display flex cable was not connected properly. New screen looks fine.
Great news, thanks for the feedback..

Thanks so much for the tutorial, I'm typing this from my newly repaired nexus 7. Asus wanted €170 and I managed to get the part for under eighty. Just wondering if you have a link to a description of that adhesive tape you recommend? Thanks again
I was successful in replacing the digitizer assembly. I ordered a new one without the silver plastic frame. I used the old frame i had. Thanks for all your instruction
Now the only thing, is the audio 3.5 mm doesn't work very well. Mono in one ear and weak even if the volume is set @ max
Do you have a suggestion as to what to look at? Should i order a replacement for the audio component?
Thank you
yes its a common problem, Google for part number ME370T_IO_FPC
***** I rechecked everything and i hadn't close the clamp on the flex cable that connects the power input and audio to the main board... It was charging super slow too. After closing the clamp, all came back to normal :-)
Joffrey Bienvenue Good news :-)
Thanks for the video! Helped a lot and was able to fix my tablet, however i was sent a faulty screen and everything is green :(

had the same trouble. once, on some google forum i read that this problem can be easily fixed by opening the back lid, disconnecting the battery cable and connecting it back again. then put the gadget on charge for a couple of hours.
then cross your fingers and turn it on.
btw, keep in mind if you open the back cover the warranty will be void. may just bring the gadget to some authorized service where they will charge you about $50-100 for doing the same steps as i showed above.
Thank you!
Glad to hear you found the problem, but why delete your comment?
Great Video, What Cam and Macro Lens you are using sir?
thanks
That's a great idea - and I tried it. Of course, the old glass shattered even worse in the process of taking off the beveled screen, so I wasn't surprised to see that IT didn't work when I plugged it back in... or maybe it should have worked and my flex cables are busted now? That was really helpful. Just completed to change my nexus7 broken screen.
Its probably is a faulty screen, but it might also be worth replacing the screen flex cable, Google for 'nexus 7 display flex' and click the shopping link
Hi class, professional video tutorial. Thanks A LOT.
hi. what a great tutorial, enabled me to complete a task i would never have taken on before. thanks.
try etradesupply, com and use coupon code ETS2 for a small discount, I know the postage is high but the quality is great
exellent video, thank you. wish id seen it before i attempted to replace my screen. a quick question, if i snapped off the tiny gold jumpers from the mother board to the wifi areial (on the back of the case) can they be replaced or do i need to replace the motherboard? thank you
Got a new ribbon cable and its working now. Thanks for the tips and help :)
Dat battery :O Great video pal, as always.
Great tutorial. If I want to reuse the old adhesive on the bezel, does this need to be heated? Otherwise where would I purchase the mobile tape?
Google for 'double sided mobile phone tape' and click the shopping link. But this stuff is very wide, so you'll need to use a few strips together. If the original adhesive loses it 'stickyness' from being touched, you can wash it in warm soapy water and when its dry it will be sticky again
Thanks it works really good with your tutorial and the replacement from ebay :-)
Thanks for you tutorial, it's really helpful!
nice recording and photography with magnifier glass
Thx a lot, really profesional. Now i'm holding a nearly brand new Nexus 7 in my hands :)
my nexus fell off mate, just gonna ask you should i buy the complete screen assembly or just the digitizer?
Thx a lot for the Video! It is really very helpful. I wouldn't have dared to replace it myself without your tutorial! Thank you!
I just have one question: The digitizer only works properly on the upper half of the Display. The whole Screen works but the Display does not react when beeing touched on the part downwards from the middle. The upper half of the Touchscreen works perfectly but not the part below the middle. What mistake could this be?
I would suspect a faulty new screen, its quite common and the seller is normally happy to replace it
Okay. Thanks a lot for this Information.
i am having just a crack on the screen just a line touch is not working at that area but at extreme bottom it is registering random touches else the screen is great so what do i need to replace ? digitizer ? lcd? all ?
the digitizer and glass are bonded together so you'll need the complete assembly like this one, you can use coupon code ETS2 for a small discount which also gives me credit www.etradesupply.com/asus-google-nexus-7-tablet-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
OK thanks for the reply Btw what is difference between digitizer and lcd or else reply with a link explaining it
the digitizer is the top glass touch screen which is bonded with optically clear adhesive to the lcd display. Some phones/tables have an airgap between them which enables you to replace the top touchscreen separately
What heat gun do you recommend to allow temperature control?
great video, when I replaced every thing back switched on ,after replacing screen I can see lines only vertical line any idea what I have got wrong. Can read files and so on.

@14:20, when removing the screen, I heated on the screen side. In this fashion, The whole adhesive stayed on the silver plastic frame and I had no need to pry it off the old screen
Very detailed video, thank you, but the digitizer does react, what could i do?

Hello, Thanks for the video. Recently my Google Nexus 7 screen was broken I can ON and OFF the tablet but i can not un lock it thorugh touch pad screen. Seems touch pad is not working. Do I need to buy Digitizer and LCD both for my tablet or only Digitizer is enough to make it workable? Where I can order these parts to do so. Please suggest me to proceed further.
you need to buy the digitizer and lcd together as an assembly, if you buy one with the frame it makes things much easier. There's a link below and you can use coupon code ETS2 for a little discount which also give me credit www.etradesupply.com/asus-google-nexus-7-tablet-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html
hello sir, thanks for this video
can i change only touch screen glass on my google nexus 2012 model because the only glass is broken and lcd is still fine so can i change the glass only.
thanks
Worked perfectly! You are genius , thank you very much.
Excellent video. I have just repaired my Nexus. Thanks a lot:)
Jel to jedan od onih Nexusa iz US? :) Ne salje ti se tablet na prekookeansku propravku pa moras sam?
thanks, I normally only have comments when the repair goes wrong...
if i just want to replace the display, is it really necessary to take out all the components like you did?
great video thanks, However in my tablet some things are different. The battery does nott have the scotch tape but it had more glue beneath it. And it doesnt have this black cover that you need to warm up to open. instead it has a bronze material that is like very soft metal. Do I have a different version of asus nexus 7?
its not a different version its just made with slightly different adhesive or heatsink
