the grenade makes the game kind of trivial, it's still hard, because there's millions of shit in the screen to dodge, but the bosses get very easy with it.
don't worry the party isn't over to everyone is safe and sound, the last shots range over to new zion!

This game was so unique and revolutionary at that time. It aint a regular shooter game. The graphics, the weapons, the background history and the gameplay itself. Mad respect to the developers. True visionaries.
Unique cool games like this usually went underrated, sadly. Wish there would be a new series or atleast a remake.
I would love for a remake. Especially because I've had two physical copies in my life, and both had an issue where they went to an infinite pit of black nothingness just after the second major boss (the one in the mines). And this is on three-four different consoles psx that we've owned through the years.
So I love the game to pieces-- it's actually one of my absolute favorite games of all time. But I've never been able to finish it-- not because I'm bad at it (I mean...I am, but that's beside the point) but because it literally would not let me continue. 8(
A remake or even just a port would be awesome.

I remember the 1st level of this was on a Demo Disc that Pizza Hut was giving away. One of my favorite Space Shooters!

@@thekween9037 I hear that! I saw one of those discs go for $25.00 on Ebay a few years back. I still have mine. That disc along with the Playstation was the center of our Christmas that year. I suspect it was the same for a lot of people! We also grabbed the first Resident Evil & Oddworld that Xmas. I didn't have a clue what the gameplay would be like on Resident Evil. We thought it was just a run & gun Zombie shooter. Great memories!
This game has aged extremely well. Limited polygon counts didn't really matter when the game had a sense of style like this.

Really early PS1 emulators on my P133mmx could play it near flawlessly when they often could barely play any other games.

Art style is really all that matters
This game does deserve a remake, love this shoot them ups and this one was the best
Throughout the whole of the 90s, Square was batting a thousand. It seemed like everything they released was solid gold. It was a hot streak that really hasn't been seen since. There may never be another perfect storm of talent, tech, and accessibility that leads to such glory again.
It all went downhill when Squaresoft and Enix merged. Many Japanese devs who released games around 2004-2006 have pretty fucked up stories of Square executives ruining their projects out of pure greed. Like, straight up firing everyone on the team to replace them with cheaper labor after the game is almost done

@@commmander64 According to background material and from what people were able to piece together:
Selene (the ruling government of Moon colony) realized that they were running low on resources and began targeting Earth, by spreading propaganda that Earth's government is amassing all the wealth and resources for themselves, and that they should be destroyed because of that. Selene began ruling their people with almost cult-like approach; they demanded blind worship and obedience to an almost religious level. Einhander pilots were trained for what are essentially suicide missions, for two reasons;
1. to exhaust and weaken Earth's military defenses.
2. to ensure that the Einhander pilots who saw Earth for what it really is (a barren, decrepit wasteland just as low on resources as Moon colony) cannot return and expose the truth.
When the player's pilot survived against all odds, they Moon government made a last ditch attempt to ensure the secret is buried, by claiming the said pilot has completed their rite of passage and has the "honor" of being killed by the Selene's new EOS fighters as their target practice.
This should have a sequel.

If anything.., i think a non official fan-based prequel, that says it has nothing to do with the original, based on prototypes(people have tried fan-based sequels, and failed cause they can't get the feel).., so make something intentional to fail.., like prototypes(of various things, that aren't eagle/hawk based~but include those~) maybe even at the first war.., since prototypes are doomed to fail.., it being alil broken would be alright..,

This game made me feel i was in the future. The atmosphere it created the feeling of being in blade runner the music it just looked real and amazing. This game was awesome, like others say it was revolutionary and definitly one of the games that gave u goose bumps it least it did to me.

You really have to dance to the music with your Einhander. It has by far the best ost of any game in my opinion. I did the same thing by matching the beat using the accelerate and decelerate.
Awesome that this epic soundtrack came with a equally epic game

Minor spoilers but neat little things I found while playing this game for countless of hours.
00:50 If you play FF14 that's the same female sound bite that the succubus uses in the game.
4:06 If you have a wasp you can use homing missiles on those pursuing cops/Schabe.
4:46 There's a slim chance you can get the Juno early, It's right before it does the flip and backwards step.
10:21 If you take him apart piece by piece, finish him off destroying one of the arms, it will a death spin and explode.
11:11 If you let that non activated Star live and just destroy the bridges on the land train. That star you let live will glitch back in the middle of the screen, if you're not careful it will kill you.
18:10 When you destroy all of its three weapons, Gustav will move in the middle of the elevator and spin while firing huge spreading energy orbs.
22:46 There is a mosquito gunpod on the very bottom near the back, in the beginning of this area. The weapon is nearly useless but will add to the gallery.
25:33 If you do enough damage to its side missile launcher and to the bottom part of Sturmvogel, It will jettison the lower part and manifest gold looking orbs that grow big and kill you if you don't destroy it.
28:00 If you use the wasp homing missiles they will actually go for that transport vehicle in the background, and spit out a mosquito gunpod, again not useful but they hit harder than the grenade gunpod.
30:40 Funny enough if you look closely at the headless boss, it still follows your movement with its neck stomp.
33:02 Again if you use the homing wasp missiles here, they will go after those enemies in the background, If you manage to destroy one you'll just have to deal with two. The minor details in game is crazy.
34:16 If you destroy its armored skirts and weapons excluding the chest lasers. Then prolong the fight it will manifest glowing blue orbs near you that explode like a mine, caught me by surprised it did.
42:59 The music should have stopped and HUD disappear the moment Hyperion was destroyed, must be an emulator thing. Also if you prolong the fight, near the end it will do a cool long charge of it's chest laser, and fire a HUGE blast that covers the screen and kill ya.
So many different things you can mess around in this game. I never really try mess around with bosses (because I'm not so good dodging attacks for too long lol)

Man this game is so sick I remember my dad playing it for hours then I played it and found so much stuff. You can get the Juno from destroying the head of the boat mini boss in the first water level. The flash from the boss the comes from.the ceiling right after that tunnel spider boss thing. I had. O idea about the early June on the first boss that's crazy man
38:34 The Schwarzgeist also appeared in Kingdom Hearts 3 as a Misty Steam enemy, enter the light-colored tornado in the middle of the area with a ship that has 200 or more points of speed. Easily the most difficult fight in the game, mostly because he demolishes you in just a few hits.

First of all, great work! I remember getting my PS1 for Xmas, and with it came a demo disc of Tekken 3, Gran Turismo, and of course, Einhänder! I was immediately hooked. I saved my money, and bought the full game. I always made it to the final boss, but couldn't figure out how to dodge its attacks with the screen switching between 2d and 2.5d. I uploaded a 4 part video of another player beating it fully. (Different soundtrack though.) Seeing as Einhänder is in World of Final Fantasy and FF14, it shows Square hasn't completely forgotten this gem. I sincerely hope a remaster is in the works. Sorry for the long rambling. You're awesome!

This game is nothing short of a masterpiece. So short but so sweet. Never seen any shooter like it.
Man this game is something else. The music, the unique gameplay, the bosses, the secrets, just everything about this game is just fantastic. I was really happy to see that the Einhander team worked on the Gummi Ships in KH3. Even happier when they brought the Endymion as a ship, the Swarzgeist as a boss, and the original track if you use the Endymion in that fight! Made me want to boot up Einhander again. Great playthrough my man!
The soundtrack in the first level is very Parasite Eve like.
I think there is even a Einhänder-pinball machine in Parasite Eve 2
This is how I even came to this video. Rewatching a parasite eve 2 playthrough and they seemed super excited about the pinball machine so I had to figure out what the game was.

At the time this game was so creepy but so fascinating! It was a technical marvel! I loves how there where never cuts between missions that say “mission complete” or “scenario finished.” *it just keeps going without any breaks inbetween! And the MUSIC! Absolutely LOVE IT!!!!*
The no cuts gives it a relentless feel. Kinda feels like an arcade game wearing a console skin sometimes.

I don't cheat at any games I played. It took me weeks to do this play perfectly on hard mode. Frustrating as hell but it's one of my all time favorite games so it was doable.

it doesnt use gun pods but each gun pod collected makes your default machine gun more powerful and different/more spread.
I had the demo version for this game as a kid so never got to play the full game but damn the memories are real with this one, this game was way ahead of its time

Ramencafe this elite pilot we play as reminds me of Gundam pilots too.. that odd feeling I get when we're in space... The anti-war elements are pretty much alike too, it seems common in Japanese storytelling. I played this wonderful game today
If change the Einhander craft with a mobile suit, this would be a pretty serviceable Gundam game...the space/moon colonies vs the earth's united government, the mobile armor looking bosses, the evil drones, the upgrade near the end, the pilot that fights for peace...

Einhander along with R-Type Delta, Colony Wars, Colony Wars Vengeance, Colony Wars Red Sun, Omega Boost etc, are some of the must have space combat games for the classic PS1.

Huge respect for the devs who made this possible the amount of love which was put on this game is palpable, everything from music ambiance , graphics , level design to overall was beautifully crafted, it truly felt ahead of its time , I remember getting hooked right away back in the PS1 era.

I found the beginning of stage 4 to be a cluster mess so Blade somehow became useful for that moment.
@@Ramencafe I had so much trouble with beginning of 4 until I realized if I run astraea picking up all the canons its a little easier but I never though about that blade technique. It looks really strong!

I really need this game, I only played the old PS1 demo when I was a kid and It was fun as hell, if any game needs a remaster this one does.
You know what the sad part is about me and this game, I love this game so much that I played more of the demo than I did the actual game.

You only see shooters early in the SNES - 1990/1991 but it’s early in the PS1 era and Square (the RPG company) publishes THIS stylish thing.
John Simon Shooters go as far back as the early 80s. In fact they started dying off in the 90s

So this is the game in its entirety.. Holy fuck. So dope I remember grinding the hell out of the PSX demo when I was 5. I dont think nostalgia has hit me this hard. 🎮🤙
You can shoot off the "air foil" on the back of the first boss for an extra damage bonus. And you can concentrate all your firepower at the "head" at the top to avoid waiting for the main gun on the body to appear. This allows you to defeat the boss faster for a better score. For the first two stages, the missile launcher is your best friend. On the first stage, you can shoot missiles at the Schwabe (police vehicles) in the background and destroy them. This works on stage two as well particularly after the mid boss where projectiles fly in the background towards you before you can shoot them. Not only that, but enemies at rest on the train are also targetable with missiles upping your damage bonus. Finally, if you use missiles on the "moving van" in the background of stage five, you get the Juno weapon, an advanced version of the Vulcan machine gun. There are only two places in the game to find the Juno. If you're flying the Selene, an unlockable ship, you get 9999 shots from the Juno which basically lays waste to every target you aim at.

The only reason I know about this game is because it was on one of the demo discs off of Playstation Magazine, I must have done the first boss more than 30 times. That and Tony Hawk were the best demo discs I've ever had.

chills in my spine as the outro song plays.., i remember when i was small as my older siblings would play it.., and years later, i would also play it myself.., i admit though.., while i made it to the end.., i still needed alot of work to even reach that level.., maybe ill play it again one day.., and hope that Square(and enix of course) do alil project, cause while a sequel is impossible nearly.., a prequel certainly is not.., even if just a small arcade game(ie just a small lil pet project)

P.S. i knew you can flamethrower the blade, though it ain't useful.., i never really tested out how using the blade in such away would be in combat.., its games like these where lil tricks, logic, and mechanics can surprise you.., and it all starts by picking up the first weapon everyone mostly gets..,

Amazing! I have always loved this game. I have tried to do “no attacking” runs on Easy Mode a couple of times before, but this playthrough is brilliant! How long did it take to do this?

I think I've seen vids of entire Hard mode run without firing a shot. Lmao, I thought it was brilliant. I would never be able to do that even on Easy mode xD

Yeah, it's a last bonus of the stage which required you to kill that police robot's bottom leg part otherwise you will continue on normal route/path.

I adore this game so much, and it was a pleasure watching your playthrough, both comparing our strategies and learning a few new tactics as well as just enjoying getting to see a deathless run beginning to end. I always get hit and blown up at least a few times on almost any given run, regardless of difficulty, but ESPECIALLY on hard.
I noticed the video seemed to clip a bit, though, and the audio cut randomly at times. Was this played on an emulator, by any chance?

Yeah, it was played on emulator, I used Fraps for the videos which splits to many clips, so as you noticed it does few lags, delays and audio issues. Then I put all the videos together via Movie Maker.
That bloody tunnel boss about 15 minutes in....I'm not sure why but he is my no continue run ender. If I can pass him I am unlikely to get killed again more than once.
Respect. I played it a lot and my best was the boss at 28:45. But still I wasn't able to kill him.

Still listening to soundtrack from time to time all those years. A masterpiece of a game. Beat it getting all the secrets, all secret ships. And I don't even like shmaps that much )))

I was so impressed by this in 1998 when I tried the demo of this game at Circuit City PS1 Kiosk. The games look very bad by modern standards but it was a greater technology leap from mostly 2d to 3d. We have not had a big technology leap but only improvements on existing type of graphics and technology. I am not complaining. Just saying why games like this, RE2, Tomba, Parapparhe rapper we’re extremely impressive at the time.
