- In this video, I went roughly 12 miles offshore of Tampa Bay, Florida in search of my first Hogfish. I caught my own Mangrove Crabs and bought 3 dozen live shrimp to use as bait. I discuss the tactics and techniques I use when targeting Hogfish. After a successful day of bottom fishing, I went back to the kitchen to show you a super simple recipe for pan seared Hogfish.

I miss going out offshore after hogs. Little sketchy going out that far now since my boat is only 17' tunnel hull. Great job Brent.
Wow! I’ve never caught a hogfish on rod and reel, but they are one of the most sought out fish when using a speargun! I’ve shot plenty but I definitely want to try to catch them on rod and reel one day. They taste awesome!
Hogfish are so crazy looking, definitely a bucket list species for me
Grew up in wimauma east of sun city. I miss the off shore fishing . Haven't been back since 1984.
This guys videos are such a vibe
First time, you were on Triple Tail, and now Hog Snapper. You are on some good fishing Brother, enjoy the good eats. Good fishing, stay safe out there Captain. And like last night dinner, it just doesn't get much better than that.
That was cool I was smiling while you got that first one. Congrats 👍👍
Glad this video popped up on my feed, been looking for more offshore videos in SW FL.
Mr. Pelican waiting for lunch. Was down in the lower Keys catching yellowtail snappers. When I threw a shorty, back a Pelican came from nowhere and swallowed it whole in a matter of seconds. For a big clumsy looking bird, they sure are quick.
Another great VIDEO Brent. Thank you.
first time comment.... your vids are so much fun to watch. i wish we had offshore species closer here in Texas!
Great vid I wish I could catch a hog fish it’s been on my bucket list.
One od the best tasting fish in the water.
I was even Happy for you catching that hog. I heard they are phenomenal eating 🌴💨
Always nice when you catch the targeted species, especially when they taste that good!
Love to see little crab bait.
Awesome. Thats on my bucket list. I need a boat 1st.
Awesome catch and cook, I need to start some catch and cook on my channel but theres no hog fish off land🤣👍🏻
My man! You're killing it on the water but you need to put that asparagus on the grill! You'll never go back
Nice Hogs!! Maybe u can call the little ones Pigletfish. And it is an excellent fish to just pan sear with Everglades seasoning. Perfect!!😎
You nailed it, I'm calling baby Hogfish "piglets" from now on
Brent Schirmer Ha! Gotta love it man keep up the great content and laid back personality bro......that's what separates you from all these "know it all" yahoo mr. Hero dudes who actually know less than I do about saltwater fishing👍👍😎
Nice Vid!
Love your videos man! it is good to have smaller gear for smaller fish, but if you’re in more than 20 feet of water your going to have to upsize your gear to not break off. Your snapper/hog rigs should definitely be smaller than grouper rigs, but still it shouldn’t break off unless it’s a massive gag or something. Just constructive criticism. The Rigs we use for hogs and snapper pull up keeper sized grouper sometimes. Good luck on the offshore ventures!
I'm headed out next week looking for 🥓 🥓!!
If you ever want a buddy to go offshore let me know, i live in cape coral but fish in tampa a lot and also i got a 22ft robalo cc and a jet ski if you do jet ski fishing by any chance
Nice video bro 🔥
Thanks dude!
LOL, You said By-catch was? That's why I love salt, you never know... 50+ deep, why are you worried about presentation visibility? Mono line to the leader... I'm old school, granted, but any add on risks breakage, IMO... great vid.
Do you do charters, I am going to be in the area in a few weeks and I would love to go out with ya!
I do not do charters, but I can recommend some charter captains if you're looking for one
How far of a run was it offshore
A little over 12 miles
Great vid and nice cook!!! What type of boat do you have??
It's a Seahunt BX 22 BR
Awesome trip. I've not caught a hogfish either. How far out were you to hit 53' of water?
A little over 12 miles
How do you like that Minn Kota? I am looking to buy but want some real life feedback. Thx
I absolutely love it when I'm offshore! No need to judge the current so you can throw an anchor. You just get right over the spot and it'll keep you there. There is a little movement when it's on anchor mode, so you wanna be careful around structure like bridges or docks, but offshore it's a must for me now
Go lightning
Watching the game right now ⚡️
Brent Schirmer same here!
Bolts are on a nice streak!
What time of the year was it and does the water temp make a difference for hogfish feeding
This was from earlier this week. I'm not sure about specific water temperatures affecting them, but I do know that it seems like the colder winter months is when people catch the most hogfish
Brent Schirmer heck yeah thank you man!!
What type and size boat is this very nice?
Nice video, I watch you and Lynsey, maybe you guys can do a video together.
what depth were u in
Around 55'
Nice. I might give it a try next week. We usually just swim down and spear em but if I get out and get one I’ll let you know
