- On August 15, 2021, Momotarou was lying down feeling unwell. He had severe diarrhea as a side effect of the medicine used to treat his injury.
Momotarou, who was listless and just lay down, was forced to recuperate indoors from the next day.
Gentaro and Kintaro were worried and lost their energy because Momotarou was sick and would not come outside.
Gentaro recovered in a few days, but Kintaro had no appetite or energy and became thinner and thinner over the course of a week.
Therefore, the zoo stopped showing the Momotarou family to visitors so that they could recuperate indoors.
I never expected that Momotarou's absence would make his son Kintaro so anxious.
I was very worried about Momotarou and Kintaro, but as Momotarou gradually recovered, Kintaro also seemed to regain his appetite.
On October 1, 2021, we were able to meet the Momotarou family for the first time in about a month.
Both Momotarou and Kintaro have fully recovered, and we were relieved to see them playing together.
We realized how important Momotarou's presence is to his two sons.
And Genki was the only one who had always had a good appetite and was full of energy, which always reassured us.

⭐️Momotaro ♂(2000/7/3)
Born in Ueno Zoo on July 3, 2000.
His father is Biju and his mother is Momoko.
His father died before he was born and he grew up never knowing his father.
He came to Kyoto City Zoo in 2010 and is now a father of two sons.
⭐️Genki ♀(1986/6/24)
Born on June 24, 1986 at the Kyoto City Zoo.
Her father is Mack and her mother is Hiromi.
When she was 10 years old, she went to Ueno Zoo for breeding purposes.
But she had a bad relationship with another female gorilla, and she injured her fingers and toes with her self-mutilation and lost a lot of weight.
When she returned to her hometown of Kyoto City Zoo, she was fine, and she lived with various male gorillas.
Then she met Momotaro and she gave birth to two lovely sons whom she lovingly raised.
Genki has a cute face with shining eyes.
⭐️Gentaro ♂(2011/12/21))
Gentaro was born at the Kyoto City zoo on Dec.21,2011,as Momotaro and Genki's first son.
Unfortunately Genki didn't have enough milk,so he was nursed by keepers for his first 10.5 months.
Now he loves his mom,and his face really looks like her.
He also loves people .
He is very close with his younger brother Kintaro and they play together almost every day.
⭐️Kintaro ♂(2018/12/19)
Kintaro was born at Kyoto City Zoo on Dec.19,2018.
He has big bright eyes and long eyebrows.
He is growing fine ,being loved by his parents and brother.

Momotaro gets a lot of criticism, he's mean, aggressive, standoffish or not playful with his boys. Another that Haoko, Shabani and D'jeeco are better more engaged dads. Whatever the truth maybe regarding those thoughts and sentiments, for those two little boys, he's their world. We may not understand it, but the love and incredible bond he has with his children is undeniable. The looks of despair and confusion on their little faces is enough to melt the hardest of hearts and demonstrates more than words can, the importance of Momotaro to his family. 💖💖🦍

以前も見ましたが、家族の絆の強さを感じました。子供たちにとって父モモタロウは怖くてうとましい存在なのかと思っていたのですがビックリしました。ゲンタロウとキンタロウのあの悲しそうな顔😥ゴリラが私達を楽しませてくれるのは、表情が顔に表れるからですね。でも母ゲンキは強かった！食欲が衰える事はなかった😁

I can’t believe people are critical of these guys. It shows ignorance, IMO. There are ways I’m sure that dad has shown care/concern/affection to his sons without overt physical displays. There is an enormous amount of communication taking place without physical signs, people.
