This place is so special. I visited last week and found it difficult to leave. My great uncle was stationed in this fjord during WW2, so I took a few cold plunges in the ocean in his memory. Seriously, everything about Hvammsvik is incredible and I can’t wait to visit again!
This was my favorite hot spring in Iceland! I also loved how it’s designed with lots of different pools so you can have privacy if you want it (compared to Sky lagoon which is much more crowded). The seafood soup was also so yummy!
We stayed in their Hilltop House two years ago on our maiden voyage to Iceland. (Watched ALL of your videos and downloaded your guide for that trip, btw. So helpful!!) Back then, it was just a beautiful estate with a few airbnb houses on the land. Felt so lucky to stay in such a beautiful location. So remote, empty. Had the place to ourselves and it was magical and sunny in August. Our kids especially loved the entertainment barn on the property. Met the lovely owner and she mentioned plans for a spa, but look at it now! Wow!
It is so amazing!! We went twice while in Iceland we loved it so much. Loved that it was not super crowded and that several of the locals were there. We did the ocean swim 5 times!
Thank you so much for doing this video! It's our first trip to Iceland and we're staying in one of the houses in July for our last two nights of an 8-night trip. The first night at Hvammsvik will be after a long drive from the Glacier Lagoon and we'll probably just crash and relax that night and take advantage of the hot spring attached to the house. The next morning will be our last full day and we're trying to decide how to spend it (option1 or 2?): 1) drop the 18 & 20yr olds off for 3+hr to hike Glymur while my husband and I maybe go to Borgarnes for lunch/Settlement museum and then pick our hikers back up to do the hot springs and maybe dinner at Hotel Glymur 2) wake up early and see Ytri-Tunga, Budir, Arnastapi- Hellnar walk, Snaefellsjokull National park (not sure what to do there if we don't do glacier hike), Kirkjufell, drive back down 56 then back to Hvammsvik to maybe catch the last hot spring entry. I know tours on Snaefellsjokull peninsula seems to take more than a day, so I'm not sure which way to lean.
Hi Susan! Either option could work but you'll definitely have a LONG driving day if you do Snaefellsnes. Check out my South + West Travel Guide for more tips on how to plan those days ~ icelandwithaview.com/product/south-west-guidebook/ ~ Happy planning!
The Wim Hof technique is definitely worth trying. When I was in Iceland a a few years ago, I tried it with an instructor before going into the ocean. It really was one of the highlights of my experience in Iceland. It's very much like a spiritual experience. That, coupled with the natural beauty of the land.....👌
Was there on the 8th April. Plan was a quick dip. Ended up staying in water for 7 hours. Just a magical place to unwind. Now my favourite place in the world. Oh yes watched the partial eclipse too.
We just went last week and loved it!! We drove straight from the airport and relaxed for hours … even fell asleep a few times. Then drove to Snaefellsness after. It was a nice way to break up the drive.
there last wednesday ble/w our minds. first class. we had the same soup. hraemur the best 19 year old bartender. watched everyone of your videos before we went. glymur's log wasn't there but we did the left trail. extreme! view wasn't very good. you rock! can't wait to go back
When I view your earlier videos, you were so American, with bright red lipstick and talking fast. Now you are naturally beautiful, maybe from becoming a Mom, and the natural, free beauty of Iceland has won you over. So wonderful to see! Could you do another honeymoon video--my daughter is getting married next June in Canada and spending their honeymoon in Iceland. We visited Iceland as a family about 6 years ago so my daughter has already been there but her husband-to-be has not. They love the outdoors and especially swimming or water activities. Btw, we have a saying in Canada; the water isn't cold, it's "refreshing!" Please also do a vlog on the Lamb Soup--we were reluctant to try it but since it was a local dish and served everywhere, we did eat it and absolutely loved it! Now we make lamb soup every Winter.
Awesome video and cool tip Jeannie. Is this after you cross the fjord to Borgarnes or is it on the Reykholt side? Either we’ll do it for sure next time we come over. Also I just read that Icelandair is going to start up flights to the Faroe Islands in 2024. Something you might have to consider for your v-blogging and general travel tips for next year… I’d sure like to know how to do that.
Hvammsvik Hot Springs is only 15 miles as the crow flies from Þingvellir! I definitely recommend a visit! ~ Interesting to know about IcelandAir, I'll have to check it out! Thanks for the tip!
This is so awesome!! Can you tell me a little more about the paddleboarding there? :) I looked at the site and didn’t see any info, but that’s something I’d be super interested in on my next trip back!
Ok this is it, this is where we are going! Jeannie, do you know if we really need to book ahead of time I imagine it's difficult to time it. Thank you for posting this!
Thanks for sharing, it looks amazing there!!! We are finally rescheduling our trip that was planned for 2020. We will have to stop there when we travel to Snaefellsnes.
Hello, Just wanted to ask a query related to the forthcoming iceland trip of self along with my friends in Oct 24 to Nov3 2023. Is it possible / advisable to do the complete ring road?
Hi there! YES! You can complete the Ring Road during that time of year and during your travel dates! Check out my pre-written itinerary (icelandwithaview.com/product/11-day-itinerary-rr-gc-snaef-winter/) for ideal daily plans!
You may bring your own or rent them from Hvammsvik for an extra fee. I highly recommend having them because the terrain between the pools and the ocean is VERY rocky!
Thank you for the review. Did you have to take a shower before going into the hot springs? I know we have to do that before going into a swimming pool.
Hi Craig! You may bring your own or you can rent them for a small fee. They are highly recommended when walking from pool to pool and when going into the ocean - the terrain is very rocky!
Question - for a solo male traveler like me, is it important to carry a speedo ... or boardshorts / swim shorts are acceptable when visiting hot springs? Personally, I feel awkward in a speedo.
This video really makes me sad. I was there some years ago and it was a cosy, beautiful, small hot tub which mostly nobody took care. You could relax there for your own and the best it was totally FREE. Now its one of many generic locations in favor of rich foreign touristy. I just checked the prices, they are ridiculous. 50 Euro for some small paddling pools, even more during weekends, the dinner probably not included. Also seems to me as an advertisement. Would be nice If you could mark it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, subscribing to my channel, and watching! Infrastructure built upon Iceland's fragile environment always brings up mixed feelings, especially for locals. There are certainly pros and cons but I can say that this hot spring location does a fantastic job of keeping the experience close to nature.
When the Christian missionaries persuaded the Icelanders to become Christians around 1000 AD, the Icelanders agreed only on condition they would be baptized in hot springs. Eventually the missionaries agreed ;-)
I want to go there again. I’m a single guy. Where is the great place to hang out? To meet Icelandic girl. Can you tell? I feel so lonely when I was there.
Its a hard life reviewing Icelandic attractions!!...but walking into the ice water...madness. Is the water mineral springs or fresh. Not that it would be relevant to temperature just skin impact. Its a wonder your skin didn't fall off!😆😆
Wimhoff is a good idea. I need to learn to do for cold water. ***caution you may be offended*** I like your videos, but please avoid vegetable oil and processed foods where you can. Use traditional fats and no added sugar. It isn't easy, especially in restaurants, but it is doable.
This place is so special. I visited last week and found it difficult to leave. My great uncle was stationed in this fjord during WW2, so I took a few cold plunges in the ocean in his memory. Seriously, everything about Hvammsvik is incredible and I can’t wait to visit again!
Wow! What a great connection and memory to have! Thanks for sharing and great job for powering through multiple cold plunges!!!
I was there last week and it was INCREDIBLE.
So beautiful and so relaxing! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
This was my favorite hot spring in Iceland! I also loved how it’s designed with lots of different pools so you can have privacy if you want it (compared to Sky lagoon which is much more crowded). The seafood soup was also so yummy!
I agree with all of this 100%!!!
Wow, just wow.
Drove to the Glymur Falls trailhead up that road a few years ago and it was stunning.
Totally stunning! Thanks for watching!
We stayed there in April in one of the houses. The stay was incredible! The views from the rentals are amazing!
Very cool! Did you hop into the hot springs as well?

We were there last week when our tour detoured from the Secret Lagoon which was being renovated. Gorgeous, wonderful experience!
So glad you got to try it out!
It is so amazing!! We went twice while in Iceland we loved it so much. Loved that it was not super crowded and that several of the locals were there. We did the ocean swim 5 times!
Wow! 5 times! 😮😮😮 Once was enough for me! 😂

Ooh... I need to check this out! That soup looked delicious, now I will probably not think of anything else until I try it 🤤
It was wonderful! Definitely get there soon!
Was there on the 8th April. Plan was a quick dip. Ended up staying in water for 7 hours. Just a magical place to unwind. Now my favourite place in the world. Oh yes watched the partial eclipse too.
Will be here this September! I hope to have the courage to go into the ocean!
I hope so too! As awful as it was, the cold plunge was also really invigorating!
The ultimate cold plunge!!
Totally! It was intense!
Have been there in April, was breathtaking!
I agree!
We just went last week and loved it!! We drove straight from the airport and relaxed for hours … even fell asleep a few times. Then drove to Snaefellsness after. It was a nice way to break up the drive.
Great idea to relax after a flight and in the middle of a long travel/driving day!
I love learning about new hot springs in Iceland!!! May need to add this one to the itinerary!
Do you have plans for a video at Forest lagoon?
Definitely add Hvammsvik - it pairs perfectly with a hike up to Glymur! And, I'm working on Forest Lagoon - I'm really really looking forward to it!

🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Sounds like a great trip!
Beats the pants off the the Blue Lagoon prices and crowds. Looks wonderful! Thx so much! ❤
🤣🤣🤣 Hvammsvik is a wonderful experience!
I was waiting for this place to get more attention! I want to go this week but not sure I'll have time in my trip.
If you find the time to visit, be sure you pre-book! They don't allow walk-in guests.
How gorgeous. TY for sharing. The soup looked amazing as well 💙
Thank you for watching...it was incredible!
Im going 9 days 1rst week of october 2023.....going with the Wim Hof method mindset!! So excited !!
Awesome! Good luck and I hope its the best.trip.ever!
Very few lady's have feet that nice. The Cosco in Iceland looks better than the one here in El Paso Texas. Thanks for the post.
Looks amazing!!!

Another great video! Enjoyed learning about this Hvammsvik!
It really was so much fun and so relaxing! I definitely recommend. 🤩
When I visit Iceland in a couple years for 12 days ish, I'll have to make time for this area. Thanks!
Definitely keep it on your list!

Thanks so much for sharing this! About how much time should we plan for this spot?
1 to 2 hours - this will be weather dependent, if you choose to paddleboard, do the cold plunge, or enjoy their restaurant
@@IcelandwithaView thank you! Can't wait. So thankful for your itineraries and finding this gem!

Jeannie, would you recommend wearing water shoes? Did you wear them in the water or leave them outside the pools for when you walk around?
I left my shoes by the side of the pool. I did not wear them into the water.
Do they provide the water socks?
Do they provide water shoes?
Can you add price or entrance fee 😊 for next video’s
Not a bad idea, but the prices can change so I'd rather link you to the booking site!
