    Danielle, I appreciate your counter argument against cutting off orchid roots! Your approach makes sense to me, and I will join you in using that method. I am a very new orchid enthusiast, so thank you for sharing your growing experience; I need all the advice I can get.

    Hi Danielle! I do the same thing with my rotton roots and velum! and yes, the root DOES still function without the velum, from my experience also!

    Hi I have a sherry baby also she is bloom right now, I am brand new to her so I am not sure, I do a miltasis onc that the leaf did the same thing I had it in self watering, I took it out of the pot and it basically separated from the rest of the plant and it was very soggy on the bottom of the psedo bulb so since I removed it the plant is doing well now. Thanks for sharing!

    How are your orchids doing now in water culture? My miltoniopsis were in semi-hydro for almost a year and surprisingly (I thought they'd love it) didn't do well for me, so I changed them to W.C. recently. I agree with you about the roots..I've lost plants following other people's advice to cut all dead roots off. Now I leave them on until new roots come in, then slowly cut off the old mushy ones at the very bottom as needed - no more drastic removal of roots! It seems to be working as I have not lost any more orchids.

    if you are getting out mushy leaves from the cell breakdown that is what i am getting on =a couple of my phals... and 2 bulbs on my omcids are rotting from the middle... so too much moisture not sure...would like to know.. but too much water is a likely possibility... i would like to know as well...
    could be not enough Cal/ Mg. they need lots especially when flowering ...
    Rick L does a good video on this...

    I've noticed the same thing with those roots. I feel as long as they are well hydrated they will be fine to do their job!!! Lol

    Maby your plants need magnesium and calcium. Specially with the brown leaf tips.

    I have SB that are still new to me and they came with blooms and I have not transferred them to SWC yet. I know no help but OME, MY Orchid Adventures and Samanta's Orchids might have some helpful tips.

    Hi hanak. New subscriber here. I dont know what country your in
    The most expirianced in fusrium is anna maria from mirical orchids ahe wrote a book about it.
    I live in holland. And spray my fusarium plants with bayer buxus spray. I have a video about it. On my water culture update a month ago i did wrote the ingriedients for fusarium in the description i think. But anna maria has a list for all the ingriedients and stuff that sells in diff countries. I have 2 plants with confirmed fusarium and i treated them and the grow roots like weeds. I have 2 phals i suspect. And i ned to treat them tomorrew. I can film it and the product again. My sharry baby has fusarium and is in water culture and made a new growth and loads of roots. My miltassia toscana and its has fusarium i treated it 3 times and does wonderfull. 2 new growts and the latest growth is matureing and sending out loads of roots.
    So i hope i that helps.
    Ps the twinkle takes ages to mature the spikes. And mine gives 4 or 5 flowers a time but its flowering since end july.
    My shelob tolkien does not have the browning. So i hope it clears up. But it can be a bacterial fungal thing. So if you treat the one treat the shelob also. It could also be a nutrient problem that the leaves dy back because it could not sustain the new growth and then it can take back the nutrienra from older leaves and then the tips dy back.
    It could me a load of things. Sorry for not bieng more helpfull. You could ask rickL to watch your video and help diagnose your plant.
    Good luck ps do watch my fusarium vid to see what i used amd if hou could gwt that product. Or go to anna Maria's channel mirical orchids and look for hwr fusarium vids in the description are lists of products links and such.
    Wish you well.
    Kind regards rose 🌹

    Do you have any problems with spider mites? What do you do to control them?

    • @daniellesorchidranch1591
      @daniellesorchidranch1591  4 года назад

      Ji An I never had spider mites until this summer when I purchased some orchids from an orchid show. I used a soapy water solution that I added alcohol to and after a few applications it seems to have worked.

    Hi at Hanak, like yourself, now I am starting with orchids, would 3% Hydrogen peroxide be any good on the cut, on the leaves.
    Maybe someone will write in about the cut leaves.
    Interesting videos.
    Danny.

      Danny Davies thank you for your comment, I know some people put cinnamon on cut leaves to dry it out but I haven't felt it was necessary for me. I do use peroxide if I have an out break of mold but that very rarely happens. I have it on stand by though if I need it.

    I don;t think is normal with the sharry baby, I think is the problem with too much water :( if is getting it means is getting rotted. I believe the is not enough airflow in that container. You need a big one with a bigger open mouth so there is airflow :)

    Hi Danielle. I have a question for You. How do You deal with the algae in water culture. It is for me a nightmare.

    • @daniellesorchidranch1591
      @daniellesorchidranch1591  5 лет назад +1

      Emilia Richter I try to rinse the vases once a week and do a really good clean every two weeks. I also try to shade the lower part of the vase. Less light equals less algae.

      @@daniellesorchidranch1591 OK Agreed, it does not look nice, but does it actually harm the plant, if not why bother getting rid of it?
