as a harpist, i have so much respect for you woodwinds 😭 yall play so hard for the entire time having to control your breathing and tone and then there's me going hehe pluck string every 100 bars
If you’re a Bari sax like me, you just know any rehearsal that’s longer than two hours will get your lips red and you’re gonna be using tubs of chap stick before the next rehearsal. And it’s usually during the practice before the concert 💀
How an oboeist, or any wind instrument player, or any musician, or anyone, can go for 6 hours....... blows my mind. As an oboeist, I would be deceased after about 2.5 hours
I've heard that they are practicing Mahler's First Symphony, so the entire time probably isn't playing, unless it's very oboe heavy. Plus I think Spencer is a Julliard student, so he will probably be fine by tomorrow(based on how strong his embouchure muscles are).
“SiX hOuRs Of MaHlEr” randomly gets stuck in my head and I laugh. It’s now become a regular phrase for rough times. Stuck at work late? Six hours of Mahler. Train got delayed? Six hours of Mahler

Violin is considered to be the hardest instrument with over 20 different bow styles, it is difficult to create sound, difficult to make vibrato, and more. I also acknowledge that wind instruments like oboe are difficult to play as well, but I stand by the fact that violin is the most difficult instrument to play.
I play the oboe and recently started to try to learn the violin so I think rn it really depends but hey it's just my opinion I think they both are hard but since I master more the oboe I feel like the oboe is much easier just that you need to put a lot of air in 😅
I used to play the clarinet, so props to that girl for still being alive after 3 hours. My classes were like 1.5h and i got lightheaded really quickly and once even passed out( main reason i quit was not bc of that but bc i did not like it that much anymore)
I think ik what this feels like, I've done MD all state choir with a 5 hour rehearsal and an 8 hour rehearsal- SO much standing!!! Musicians are seriously underrated. :)
Love this. Thought it was hilarious, then I saw the English horn and I almost screamed from joy! My old o oe teacher played the English horn and it makes me happy to see one again
Ah man. I envy you guys. Just started out with the flute again after many years and I saw that young girl do something (her embouchure) which gave me the breakthrough I needed with a certain exercise. Thank you!!!!😅😅😂❤
As a cellist, i can’t imagine how y’all do this bro. I mean, i know playing cello is hard because you get blisters from the strings, your bow hold hurts, your arms cramp, pizzicato feels like TORTURE but I’d pass out cause how do you guys like.. breathe? During the songs? I have so much respect for y’all fr 😭
So I went to an orchestra camp that was four days long, and the food was horrible and made everyone sick-so I just didn’t eat. Practices were nine hours a day and we didn’t end until 9 pm, and then I would stay up until 4 am playing cards against humanity with everyone else in the orchestra. I already have low blood pressure, and at the end of this I had dropped five pounds and couldn’t stand up for more than 2 minutes without passing out 😂
As as vocalist that has done an 8 hr rehearsal for Mahler, my vocals were dead, my brain was no longer connected to my vocal chords, and I didn’t talk to anyone for the rest of the day 😂
As a fellow Mahler-er and orchestra member I feel your pain (but I’m a cellist so I don’t have much of an excuse to feel half dead) Also off-topic the oboe is my absolute favourite instrument
I am in high school, and I just had pep band camp last week. I play flute. After 3 hours, I was dying and crying inside. It wasa lot of fun and I learned a lot, but I was so done. The camp was 3 hours long, last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I feel like people think flute is a lot easier than it is. It's not that easy. So many high notes!!
The extended strain of the embouchure is KILLER. In college, my band would periodically have monster sessions like this. My cheecks would feel numb for a LONG TIME afterward.
STAWWWP l saw my first Mahler piece at the Chicago Symphony just a few days ago and it was magical!! Y’all might be dying up there but it sounds so good haha
It's so nice to hear an oboe solo! I played flute, oboe and baritone sax. My band teacher always made a big deal about how having the oboe filled out the sound in the wind section but we never performed any music that featured it 😂.

I can play and enjoy playing for 4 hours upwards
aren't quite a few orchestras like this? like the orchestra summer camps, they usually play the working day, doing the whole orchestra and sectionals
As a trumpet, I’m right with ya man. My face hurts just thinking about it, especially the first trumpets
