- A hat tip to a brilliant, underrated 80's road movie set to Blind Faith's classic "Can't Find My Way Home," which closes it.

A great movie. No computer graphics, sex, violence, profanity or gore, just a human story that touches you deeply.
Chuck Barlow well said man!
Yasss ❤
No bullshit, no insignificant fillers....
Indeed! It's a shame some people don't think highly of those kinds of movies
@@dariusmazaheri9305 Once in a lifetime classic.
Best Comment!
Great tribute. I don’t know anyone else who has even seen this gem. Caught it once 30 years ago. Never forgotten it. The thills, the spills, the stupidity, the cockiness, the danger and the friendships of youth. And then it’s gone. Best closing scene I’ve seen.
Yeah! Love how Kevin looks on with fondness and sadness all in one beer-raising gesture.
@@lefkytheshin That's the one dude. Can you upload that? And you have a good life.
Movie was barely released in theaters. It appeared on HBO after Kevin Costner hit it big in Silverado.
Have a good life. Says it all.
Saw it in the early 80’s and it immediately became one of my all time favorite movies 🍿 ❤❤❤
I got a little more choked up about this tribute than I thought I would. My dad and I would watch this often and even "dig up Dom" from whatever cold river we'd hide a bottle of cheap champagne in on camping trips. Now he's passed on and I'm still reminded of him through this film. Man this movie still hits at all sides sometimes eh?
Ditto.
Right on dude, love this film. It encapsulates the poignancy and ridiculousness of life in such a heartfelt manner. I feel such a mix of emotions watching this film that i struggle to explain to you. Isn't it wild that a film can do this to you and you're on RUclips commenting on a comment left by someone else a year ago? Anyway, i'm over in Paisley in Scotland and sending you good vibes wherever you are! Take 'er easy dude. All the best!
@@niallkennedy23 What's hap'nin, Scotland? I'm in the United States deepest of the deep southland and I absolutely love this film. In fact, when the subject comes up, and I"m asked what my favorite film is, I go right to this one, along with "The Summer of '42". These two films get me right where I live; in my soul. I teach University eighteen-year olds and they'd never get it; not right now. They haven't lived it yet. But "here's to us, by God. To us, and that, and privileges of youth. Here's to us and what we were...And what we will be. And what we WILL be."
Totally underrated flick that' got lost in
time. Those who know, know.
My first introduction to this movie was in the spring of '98. I was 24, recently broken up from a two year relationship with a girlfriend, and had made two tandem jumps at my local dropzone the summer before. I saved up as much money as I could muster all winter. I had decided on taking a 700 mile roadtrip by myself (this was my first roadtrip alone) to spend two weeks at Z-Hills (Skydive City) in Florida for my skydive training. I passed my AFF (Advanced Freefall) course in 4 days. Afterwards, at the dz bar, the instructors put on the skydiving scene from Fandango and told me that's how they wish they could teach it. I went on to skydive for another 12 years and 750+ jumps. That trip was the best two weeks of my life.
Skydivers are the only group of people who know of this movie. ❤️
Sounds like me only I caught the movie in the mid-80's when HBO was brand spankin' new. I was almost 24, saved up a good bit of money from a piece o' crap job, packed my gear and got a cab to the airport right after my mom left for work. I backpacked around Paris, and ended up living two years in London working at The Royal Court Theatre as an usher. One day, I went in to work and somebody in the sound booth was playing, "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting". I danced like the last Groover through every aisle of that theatre! I never felt so free and connected to the earth and the cosmos. I saw that movie, looked in a mirror at myself and said, "Somebody's in there. Let's go find her."
A surprisingly good film. The final scene is so poignant it will bring you to tears.
Right? That beautiful music when the guys are going their own ways, and then Costner holding his beer up. And Blind Faith plays...just kills me.
The final scene is a work of art, even though it is indeed very poignant.
To know Fandango ... one must live Fandango. Road trips to nowhere ... finding angels on the ground ... despite it all a beautiful segue to the future
It doesn't matter who you are , you find yourself on a common ground with the story and the characters within minutes with this movie or at least I did . I love this movie . The emotions that arise from it , the feelings of having been there yourself, it's indescribable .
We're all Groovers!
One of my very favorite movies. An undiscovered classic. Beautiful.
One of the best soundtracks ever!
@@jamesfields2916 Have no idea how they were able to get the rights to all those really cool songs, except... It was basically at the beginning. a student film.
This was my uplifting movie, I would play it every time my world got me down.
Dolore dell'abbandono. 😢😢😢😢😢
fantastic film, great soundtrack, reminds me of the carefree days of early life and then it's so quickly gone, something about it is just magical, just keep watching it again and again
Great movie as well as my introduction to the music of Pat Metheny.
ME TO , IT´S MY FIRST CONTACT TO PAT METHENY MUSIC WITH "ITS FOR YOU"
Ditto
Steven Spielberg partly funded this movie but hated it so much he refused to have his name on the credits. Proof that even great men don't always get it right.
Like his West Side Story...ugh.
my all time favorite movie... forever!
With You Mate. I hear the sound track and melt.
@@davecoalwood9487 Yeah its my favorite movie and the soundtrack got me in when I clicked on the link It never gets old!
Thanks, all. Yeah, a far as underrated movies go, this gem is in my top 5.
I was lucky enough to have bought it on VHS years later from someone selling their collection on the street. It was like finding Gold!!!
It’s in my top 1
Was always moved by the ending of this great movie. Both Gardner (Kevin Costner) and Dorman (Chuck Bush) know that this is it. The last 'fandango' has come to an end, their wild party days are over and now adulthood must start. They shake hands, say their goodbye, and part ways never to see each other again. Very sad and powerful.
Yes! A powerful gesture and moment. I almost always get misty-eyed at that moment, which signals a "goodbye" to all things youthful.
@@lefkytheshin Very well said, lefkytheshin and thanks for the reply. Upon re-reading my own comment, I just realized that it wasn't Gardner, but rather Phil Hicks (Judd Nelson). It's even one of the lines of dialogue, "Gardner never said goodbye." Gardner was on top of the hill, watching the lights go out at the site of the wedding, then raising his beer and giving one last silent toast as Blind Faith plays us out. Perfect ending to a perfect movie. Cheers.
And how many of us have had wonderful friends that we've not seen in oh so many years, but that we could close our eyes and see their faces as if they were standing in front of us? "Good-bye, Friend." "Have a nice life."
Discovered this movie at Blockbuster. Looked at the jacket, saw Kevin Coster, Judd Nelson, Steven Spielberg, and rented it. It was the year after I graduated university. It grabbed me from the first scene and held me until the end like few movies have done since.
I think university is the first time that, if you're lucky, you not only find a great network of friends, but you appreciate what you have. This movie meant so much because I was them - I was dreading the inevitable.
Thanks for this.
I saw this movie on cable in the 80's as a teenager and LOVED it. I think I have a copy on VHS somewhere. A true underrated gem of a film!
This movie touched me as a 10 yr old in ‘85 and still touches me today. The Groovers. One last road trip to find DOM before going their separate ways. The worst part is saying goodbye.
"Have a nice Life"...
Who on earth loves good-byes?!
I am the same age as you and probably saw this movie about the same time on HBO and it has stuck with me my whole life.
@@dariusmazaheri9305 I guess I did put that in a stupid way. haha. Goodbyes suck. What I meant is that it was so sad when they all said goodbye and went their separate ways like they were never gonna see each other again. Sometimes goodbyes aren’t final, but in this movie, their goodbyes were final ya know. Hell, I don’t know if I’m making any sense or not. haha. Ya know what I’m trying to say, though?
@@venturamichael50 that’s awesome! Nice to meet a fellow Groover! What an impactful movie this was on us.
I miss the mountains, snow quietude, forest, and the lake; can't find my way home. I miss being a young, fresh, smart mouth, brat. I was a favorite character, then.
One of those underrated movies I stumbled across some time ago and still love it today. The music soundtrack is great and [spoiler alert] I really love the ending scenes of the wedding...so simple yet beautiful...always makes me cry (but don't tell anyone)
Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays - loved that wedding scene.
I remember watching this on HBO,,,,when there was only ONE HBO channel lol🤣🤣🤣. I tape it on vhs of course and I played and rewatch it soooo many times. I need FANDANGO on dvd or Blu-ray.
That is where I discovered it.HBO was a goldmine in its early days for Generation X.Like MTV they needed content so they showed many a film that are considered cult classics, including Fandango.
Wow, I thought I was the only one with this taped from HBO so long ago! I still have my copy too but would love to have it on DVD.
Had the film on VHS and just recently acquired it on dvd. A simple but very entertaining film with great songs and soundtrack. Harkens back to the time where you're young, carefree and want to take on the world.
"The Groovers are saved!"
That was a great movie. It came out right before I graduated from High School.
My favourite movie ever. And what a soundtrack. Always reminds me university days when you hope youth never ends...
great movie...great music...one of the best movie that I have seen
Have the DVD and on iPad. Never get bored of watching this movie. Watched many years ago by chance on the TV, these days it’s never shown. Great music score, love the Pat Metheny tracks and I don’t even like Jazz. If you like road movies and coming of age movies this ones a must.
I did a few parachute jumps in the early eighties, and had to do similar things as in this movie, including hanging on to the wing strut.
Many Kevin Costner fans have never even heard of this gem of a film.
Unforgettable, epic movie. Youth is a warm spark! Cheers!
The greatest coming of age move of all time!!!
So glad you're keeping this movie alive. Great tribute. I own the DVD, and I've watched it many times. It's just the most magical movie ever.
I have bought, and the Wife & I have given away at least 20 DVDs to friends who have never seen or heard of this movie. The reactions from friends are Priceless.!!!
The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact that Kevin Costner ditched a BEAUTIFUL woman! You don't know how great someone is, until you abandon them. 😡😡😡
Send it 2 me the DVD i would watch it
@@dariusmazaheri9305 Oh man, that's the best part. That built the fantastic ending with his character realizing his loss/mistake.
i purchased dvd of all my fav films..
one of the all time greats. grew up in the 80s watching this off HBO. we taped it. had the vhs. it eventually got worn out. managed to find a dvd copy in early 2000s…. now i have a digital copy. I was introduced to Pat Metheny through this film. My wife too. “It’s all for you” played at our wedding. ……shit. what a movie.
I tried to have it played at my wedding too but the DJ just couldn't wrap his head around it, and I was trying not to make a big stink but I really wanted it played. And I've been looking for a copy of DVD for years because I also have my original VHS copy from HBO. Now that I know it exists, I've GOT to it on DVD just 'cause I think everybody needs to see this film at least once. In fact, if I show it to someone and they DON'T get it, I'll be inclined to think something's wrong with them. I would see them very differently.
A great coming of age road trip movie, with a great music score. I have this on DVD and on iPad and watch it time and time again.
I live where some of this is shot!! It still looks the same.
"Innocent critters squashed on the highway if life." - Gardner Barnes
The great "Coming of Age Movie"! Right there with "Stand By Me". Plus the music is such an important part to the movie. Glad to know there are people out there besides my brother and myself who watch FANDANGO and truly Get it's meaning!
...brings back so many memories. Loved this movie.
Doit NXS Little Big Town girl crush
thanks
Agreed.
One of TOP 5 movies ever !
Great tribute to a great film. I hope to make the journey to see "Dom" myself someday.
I get sooo caughtup in the real world as I get older, I forget the privileges of youth, and my fun roots.. my pals and buds when I was young.. this movie embodied what I lived for when I was that age. nice tribute, thank you!!
Wow that was awesome. So simply put but so elegant.
This movie resonated with me decades ago.
Nice. Badge is one of my favorite songs, almost exclusively, thanks to this film.
Can't Find My Way Home, too.
Check out them playing CFMWH live at the Hyde Park concert. Clapton playing this on an electric guitar! Too bad the cameraman concentrated on the Grech & Baker during EC's solo...
I remember renting this movie one time (after seeing it a dozen) just to watch the ending closing credits. Loved the movie but that scene with Can't Find My Way Home playing was awesome
I faked sickness to skip school one day back in the 80s and this movie was on HBO that afternoon. It was one of those moments that shape you, ya know?
Exact same shit happened to me!
You did the Groovers proud.
A classic though I rarely meet anyone else who has seen it. Even my movie buff friends. A few of the greatest scenes in any film.
An American Classic!!!
Il più bel film di tutti i tempi, per me!
You fully understand the point of this movie when Barnes watches the lights slowly fizzle out from afar----and then he raises his beer. Freeze frame to this song. Unforgettable.
God, I love that movie. Great tribute.
The perfect answer to the question 'what is the true essence of man with great music' .
Omg , the more this movie is broken down into brilliant cinematics the better it gets!
This Movie was…how many years ago? STILL NOW this is Best Movie for me. So I still wait Real Sound Track of this Movie〜maybe I'll wait forever.
Increíble película mi favorita siempre y música ni hablar excelente en toda
Amazing. Best film ever
Classic film....have the dvd..
Always loved this movie, I’m in the next generation but we had our Fandango.
I love this movie so much. I’ve only seen it dozens of times. I wish I could fine the original version with the swimming hole and the bikers. Not sure why those parts were later cut out,
Great film - great music.
Hermosa pelicula, por momento te hace volar, hermosa sensacion, graciasss
Great tribute! Thank you! I love EVERYTHING about Fandango.....
I only wish it had some shots of the wedding, which was incredible and beautiful.
My favourite movie
“Angels” my favorite scene of the movie. I have laughed many time just thinking of Judd Nelson’s line and Truman sparks ....... as the pilot 😭
Kevin Reynolds knows how to make a movie...just like ''Water world'' the first half (before Costner directed second half) !
Great tribute. Have been to several of the filming locations. The school house in Toya, Texas where they filmed the dorm scenes and Chata O'rtagas right along I-20 just west of Pecos, Texas are still there. The building for the parachute school is no longer there.
We're talking major malfunction! Haha
I was 14 when I seen this movie
I still love Fandago, days of pure friendships, no political bull crap on either side, like Chuck below said, no extra crap needed, just great filmography, music, acting, story! And it's freakin Positive in a damn negative world! I love it!
Excellent
Favourite film ! 🎉
A perfect tribute
DUDE! Let me tell you about my dream!! Born to be wiiiiildddd....
Great movie
A little gem💗☺️💗
"E a quello che saremo".
This movie introduced me to pat Matheny music
Great post. By far an all-time top 5 for me.
Ahh Lester,the unsung hero lol!
Muito bom mesmo.
Nice video, man!
Had those moments in college when the privilege of youth was coming to an end. It was sad and scary that responsibility and accountability was coming like a freight train. The silly moments with friends would become less and less
That one goober slept the whole time.
Oh, yes... FANDANGO!!! ;-)
great movie but something about it was so sad in a very poignant way
mc intyre is so fun!!
He was also on 'The running man' and 'The lone rider.'
And Back to the future part 3 as the undertaker.
