If a cdi goes bad on a motorcycle or any small gas engine, the engine refuse to start or run. CDI stands for capacitor discharge ignition system. CDI boxes have different shapes and different number and color coding of wires. But the basic principle for a cdi to work is the same. They all have a capacitor inside which is charged and then discharged in the ignition coil to produce spark for the engine to start and run. It is very important to know and properly test the cdi box before replacing it in case if the bike is not starting.
