Totally agree with everything you’ve said the face looks reminiscent of a Chronosport UDT, I’ve a classic Arnie and was contemplating this but honestly the design never really grew on me. The original Arnie is a true icon and classic and should not be messed with, the only thing I would do is make it higher end from Japan as the build quality could be improved.
I love your videos When I was a teenager and saw Arnie's Commando and Predator I fell in love with his watch. Unfortunately, I was not able to buy this watch at the time. A few years ago I fulfilled my childhood dream and bought the SNJ025. But since the watch had too many chrome elements for me, I sold it again. I like tactical equipment and it definitely shouldn't be shiny. So I wrote a letter to Seiko and asked if they could make the Seiko Arnie in a "black series". A commercial diver here... the amount of people who are going below 80m is very few across the world & requires using specialized gas mixtures cause the nitrogen in air causes you to get extremely high. It also for very short dive lengths requires 3 hours in the water doing decompression to be able to survive & then +4 hours doing more decompression in a hyperbaric chamber on the boat. Working at 240' of depth is very costly paying divers, time consuming to accomplish the job in short bursts of activity, & requires tens of millions worth of equipment to accomplish. NO ONE is diving that depth "for fun"
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR in dive school one of the lessons is being put down at various depth in a hyperbaric chamber. The last one is a little over 60m (190') for the explicit purpose of giving the student Nitrogen Narcosis so that we have practical experience with feeling it. Anything below 60m (180') requires HeliOx for air, the Nitrogen is replaced with Helium to prevent Nitrogen Narcosis (Helium doesn't get you high but it does take much longer to get out & makes decompression that much longer.) They also showed a video of a diver in Poland that got narc'd a little less than 60m according to his dive computer... he got confused and kept going deeper along the lake bottom, he was below 110m when he finally dropped his equipment & took his mouthpiece out (horrifying thing to watch a man giggling before he drowned.)
Nice review pal. Agreed, dont mess with the design. Wish Seiko would look forward rather than back all the time. rehash after rehash and usually its the originals that have always been the best. Case in point the Willard. I am about to release a video on a restoration of one from 1974 all original and one owner who used it what it was designed for , actually got a great story to tell in this video. Seiko have re released this model time and time again. Weird how they wont release a new "Pogue" or anything with a gold dial and pepsi bezel... Seiko used to rival Casio on digital watches and I dont even think they now make anything that resembles those classic 80s digitals.
Cheers Michael! Any reissue that is true to the original but have modernised upgrades I’m all for! But changing the dial completely???? I don’t get it! Looking forward to your Willard show !

Russel. Very fair review giving it praise where it deserves. Alas not for me as I bought my Arnie reissue for the very reason you mention. Got Seiko’s in my rotation but it seems they’re pumping out clones just for the sake of floating something new on the market. I’ll be getting on my choppa before buying this one. Grand vid as always.
You absolutely nailed this one Russ. Totally agree with everything you said. I'm a diver and I have diver with my Arnie, it doesn't really need a dive log, I have my proper dive computer for that. I won't be getting one either. If it ain't broke don't fix it !
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR only thing is for future planning I suppose, knowing what thickness of wet suit to wear, but your main dive computer does this as well so needed even less than the depth meter.
I do really like your reviews / your wife’s choices! I think 200m WR helps with build up of pressure…not just depth. So if you dive in you’re at max 3m but the pressure on the watch would be a lot greater. So 80m on a dive computer is different to 200m WR. I think this is correct - shoot me down if it’s wrong…but love the videos so keep up the good work.
I love your channel. Great work honestly. Regarding this watch, I own the Arnie reissue that is close looking to the original. I love it, also worn by Sir Roger Moore in my favorite Bond film ❤
Completely agree with your thoughts. I own a Safarnie and I love it. I could never understand the new model, it's not an Arnie. My only (tiny) criticism of my Arnie is I wish it also had a countdown timer then It would be perfect. Great vid as always
Countdown timer to tell you when the bad guys realize you actually aren't on that plane would indeed be nice. I can use the bezel for countdown stuff with a bit of mental math, but only up to an hour and no audible alert when time runs out.
@@JessicaKStark watch the movie scene again, they switch watches. It goes from the Arnie to a random prop, with just a digital screen and two small dials. Then back to the arnie in his scenes lol.
Great review as usual. I don’t have either the 025 or the 037 but to me, despite your strong argument against, I much prefer the over all look and function of the SNJ037! Don’t tell Arnold and to quote him, “You a very funny man, I kill you last!…….I lied!” I don’t like the silver colored pushers on the 025, the black ones on the new version with the blue and red rings are killer, not to mention the red second hand to match. I like that the side of the bezel is all black color and not the contrasting silver color of your favorite. The con points on the 037 are overwhelmingly outweighed by the pro points I’ve mentioned. To each his own I always say. Thanks again and cheers!
I completely agree with you! I happen to own both the SNJ025P1 and the new Arny model SNJ037P1. 😊 I must admit, partially, you played a role in my decision. Hahaha! The SNJ037P1 is undeniably an impressive timepiece, but it lacks the distinctive feel of the Arny. I must say, the bracelet is rather disappointing, but that seems to be the case with lower-end Seiko models in general. However, I found a solution by replacing it with a rubber strap, and now I absolutely love it! In particular with that amazing red hand! Love it! Total strap magnet !!
I was gifted this watch for Christmas and I have to say I love it , no it’s not identical to the original but who cares , it’s a 40th anniversary limited edition remake , it doesn’t have to look identical it’s still essentially the same watch but better , it has a solar powered dual quartz movement and has a bigger lcd screen and has a depth counter, I think this watch is great , evidently some people disagree but that’s the beauty of watches, you buy and wear one because you like it not because joe bloggs on RUclips or in the comments section say it’s good, so the out come is everyone has different preferences , so just wear what feels comfortable and makes you happy ( even if it’s a TAG or a HUBLOT 🤮😂).
Why do you have a random diver that in your house? 😅 I actually like it - it’s just a different watch. Only dodgy bit is those cut off markers at the bottom
In the film, the close up shot of him checking the time, the movie bosses changed the face of it either for legal reasons ??? It’s an H885 though my friend.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR thanks for the reply but that watch faces all be it ugly was and is it something you could buy. Also it had no brand name on the face for what ever reason.
Another great review, if my arm was twisted to get one, it'll be the Arnie, not one where the digi display looks an afterthought and cut out half the dial to fit it in, totaly agree the original is much better
Great video! I sure hope the watch industry will come back around to non-sapphire crystals though... Sapphire - High hardness, low toughness, high reflectivity. (Most expensive part being the AR coatings) Mineral - Medium hardness, medium toughness, medium-low reflectivity. (Technically best choice on paper) Acrylic - Low hardness, high toughness, and low reflectivity. (My favorite - Most beautiful and easy to buff)
Just got mine and love it. However, i set it up and even reset it, and my hour hand is stuck at 12 o'clock. Am I doing something wrong, or should I return it?
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I did, and I have it screwed down. I used it to set the digital time and date functions the other hands jump to except the hour. Thanks for the quick response btw 👍
Great video as always! I own the SNJ035, love it!!! Didn’t even know that it was for 40th anniversary when I just got it. Although not an Arnie, great great great watch! Even the bezel is aligned ;) Highly recommend it even though it is apparently NOT an ARNIE ;)
Cheers Ozzy! Yeah I like it minus the minute hand over the screen and the pointless dive function! You have to unscrew it to use it!! You won’t be able to turn it off till the watch is dry again!!hahahaha
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR 🙏🏻 Regarding the minute hand, I use the screen for the daydate function so it’s not as a big issue for me so far. Will update next week when I’ll be abroad and use the dual time, and will see how I feel about it ;)
Have to agree with you about the digital display placement; I think it looks better on the top than on the bottom. Since I already have the SNJ025, I don't see any reason to get the new anniversary one.
I agree I have an SNJ025 and it's one of my fave watches in my collection, this new upside down 'Arnie' just doesn't resonate with me as an 'Arnie' but it's a good looking tactical style- Tuna Diver, That said, the layout of the buttons makes it look goofy and lopsided, the clasp, WTH Seiko?, the bracelet a looks little tacky and cheapy-ish, and it's a weird upside down 'Arnie' that doesn't evoke for me an Arnie, the way the SNJO25 in my veiw. They tried to reinvent the Wheel, or in this case, the Arnie. Maybe Seiko, with this new SNJ was going for an Upside down Alternate Universe look Arnie? I kinda does give me that impression.
I was considering getting one of these but have seen a Reddit thread where owners are reporting that the newer models are suffering a factory reset when the watch is exposed to bright light! Something about the solar charge knocking the watch out or something? Have you come across this?
I have to agree Russ, the SNJ025 is the proper Arnie re-release, the new one although a nice watch just isn't. It's like someone put Arnie's head on upside down that would be terrible as his nose would fill up in the rain.
Great video, love your enthusiasm. Can't say I've ever been a fan of the original so can't share your frustration. However the lack of black coating on the inside of the clasp for the price certainly made my blood pressure rise. But that's about the only emotion from me. But as always everyone likes different things. What doesn't float my boat, sails others around the world
I got the PADI blue version at a discount and I like it very much. The bracelet is not a good idea, it's perfect on the silicon strap though. It's not perfect; but still, I love it very much and it's solar powered too.
Quality wife comments 👌 totally agree with the fact it's not a reissue of the original Arnie and deffenetly not for me. I'll stick with my CWC mk2 Saphire diver anyway Russell !
Spot on assessment Russell.... 👏 You kept everything sensible and then you went and referred to Arnold as an 'actor' ! 🤣 We love the guy but ....... This watch is not an Arnie, and Arnie is a film star! Keep on entertaining us mate, your channel is a cracker.....😊
I like this new model, as I get older it's getting harder to read the date on watches, that larger LCD should help and you get a nice bracelet which can be swapped out with a rubber strap if/when the mood suits
I will actually buy this for scuba diving. I have a couple of Seikos (not using for diving), but this will be great as a backup watch for my diving computer. And the big size will be lessened over a wetsuit.
I am considering getting either the original Arnie like u have or the pepsi bezel version, but i am in agreement, not interested in this one. Do u have any idea if they are discontinuing the standard Arnie in the near future?
you call it what you like, seiko gets to choose what they make and i for one think the 40th anniversary is the best watch in my collection its bad ass!! and bad ass is Arnie. change is good
The SNJ025 is my beater. Swimming, yard work, bush walking. The crystal still has no scratches. I think if I ever got in a situation that would kill the Arnie, I wouldn't survive to mourn the loss lol.
Like the snj025 Arnie but this watch was not the watch in Commando. Just watched it a couple of days ago and completely different layout. Checked out Predator and that watch does look the same. Just had Citizen Aqualand bought for me for Birthday and it was delivered this morning.
Got the BN2039 59E model which has ss bracelet, Matt black face and red bezel. It is totally analogue with normal 3 hands (white) plus a power level indicator (white to left of dial), dive depth indicator (white bordered in red), maximum depth indicator (white) and date window at 3 o’clock. Probably a bit busy for you. It’s a beast at 46mm diameter and 16mm thick. It’s an eco drive watch and came almost completely empty so has been charging all day. I have set it and played a little. It almost fits me out of the box but realistically I will have to take a half or full link out. The bracelet is superb, by far the chunkiest I have held with fold over and pushers for security on the milled clasp and a glidelock style diver extension too also operated by pushers. It has a 60 click unidirectional bezel which feels a bit soft but there is no back play at all and everything lines up perfectly. It has a depth sensor on the left and a water sensor on the right above the 4 o’clock main screw down crown. What I like about it is as soon as it senses water it puts the watch into dive mode automatically. On the left are two other screw down crowns at 7 and 11 o’clock respectively which are for the dive functions I believe but haven’t had time to check them out properly yet. Think that’s about it without getting tools out.
Every time I've set a countdown timer on a Casio or a smart phone as an adult, it always reminds me of being 7 and seeing Arnie setting 11 hours on his watch in Commando. Yeah, that digital display is in the wrong place. Favourite RUclips channel, very snappy and entertaining, cheers
I personally think the digi looks better at the bottom and makes more sense when reading the analogue. More of a cohesive look I reckon. I get that it's not the same as the original and perhaps should have given it a different name. I bought the silver one and call it the Terminator and love it.
100% get the Terminator nickname;) it’s definitely not an ARNIE for me and the minute hand over the screen???? That’s something they made sure wouldn’t happen on the first one in 82!!!;) thanks for watching my friend!
Hey mate, i just got mine in stainless steel loving it so far, question if i unscrew the dials does this mean that my water resistant is compromised? Thank you
Love the arnie watches. To make it better: sapphire crystal, a countdown timer (like the original) and dont waste display space on the date, so rather than "Mon 6 " , have it read "Mon 01-06" for example.

I’ve just looked back at my last four Seiko shows and I’ve given them a bashing!!!!!
Seiko did it again… 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻. Thank you, I enjoy your videos 😂👍🏻
Is that the Matrix of Leadership from the 1986 Transformers movie at 1:43?
You absolutely nailed this one Russ. Totally agree with everything you said. I'm a diver and I have diver with my Arnie, it doesn't really need a dive log, I have my proper dive computer for that. I won't be getting one either. If it ain't broke don't fix it !
Precisely Dale!! That one diver was you!!!;) totally agree matey ! Would you want to know the temp at 20 metres?
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR only thing is for future planning I suppose, knowing what thickness of wet suit to wear, but your main dive computer does this as well so needed even less than the depth meter.
I do really like your reviews / your wife’s choices! I think 200m WR helps with build up of pressure…not just depth. So if you dive in you’re at max 3m but the pressure on the watch would be a lot greater. So 80m on a dive computer is different to 200m WR. I think this is correct - shoot me down if it’s wrong…but love the videos so keep up the good work.
This makes perfect sense my friend!
I get that my friend!
Bought the 25 model. Love it. Won't come near ones that have screens on the bottom.
Hahahaha too right!
It's all the changes from the 2019 model that I already own that gave me the reason to buy one.
Lovely!!!
Not allowed in the choppa!!
(That minute hand over the LCD is so bad!!)
Thanks, Russ. Great show!
Cheers matey! Appreciate you stopping by again!
Great review as always 👏 👍..you really crack me up 😆😆
Thank you my friend!
I can watch your reviews all day long..Happy new year 🍻🎉🎉
Another excellent and very funny video😂
Very kind my friend thanks for watching!!
I’ve a arnie H558-5000. Brought it in 1986. Still a great runner .
I like the look of the new one,s.not sure if I’ll get them.
Touchy touchy buddy
@@Hialeah1925touchy about what ???? Are you ok?😂
What year does the original Arnie’s digital calendar run until?
Not bothered to find out my friend!! Look at it!! It’s cool!!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Thank you. I was going to buy an original but I don’t want to get stuck in a few years. Cheers.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTORI think I’m going to lose the original in a bidding war, but I did buy a pre-owned SNJ025. Coming soon!
Why do you have a random diver that in your house? 😅 I actually like it - it’s just a different watch. Only dodgy bit is those cut off markers at the bottom
Naaaaa a stainless version of mine would’ve been awesome!
Much easier to read at the bottom.
Superb video this week! Really dig the wit and passion. Not sure what this Seiko is aiming for - but definitely not an Arnie.
You hit the nail on the head with that one, not an Arnie! Great review though but what are we clicking at the end 😂
Hahahahaha cheers Seth!!!!
Interesting video but I have a question. Why is this watch known as an Arnie when it looks nothing like the watch in Commando?
In the film, the close up shot of him checking the time, the movie bosses changed the face of it either for legal reasons ??? It’s an H885 though my friend.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR thanks for the reply but that watch faces all be it ugly was and is it something you could buy. Also it had no brand name on the face for what ever reason.
Another great review, if my arm was twisted to get one, it'll be the Arnie, not one where the digi display looks an afterthought and cut out half the dial to fit it in, totaly agree the original is much better
Cheers Russell!!!
Great video! I sure hope the watch industry will come back around to non-sapphire crystals though...
Sapphire - High hardness, low toughness, high reflectivity. (Most expensive part being the AR coatings)
Mineral - Medium hardness, medium toughness, medium-low reflectivity. (Technically best choice on paper)
Acrylic - Low hardness, high toughness, and low reflectivity. (My favorite - Most beautiful and easy to buff)
Very well put;)
Just got mine and love it. However, i set it up and even reset it, and my hour hand is stuck at 12 o'clock. Am I doing something wrong, or should I return it?
Have you pushed the right crown in?
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I did, and I have it screwed down. I used it to set the digital time and date functions the other hands jump to except the hour. Thanks for the quick response btw 👍
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR turns out the Amazon seller had some defective watches, so I refunded it and purchased it directly from seiko-usa.
Great video as always!
I own the SNJ035, love it!!!
Didn’t even know that it was for 40th anniversary when I just got it. Although not an Arnie, great great great watch!
Even the bezel is aligned ;)
Highly recommend it even though it is apparently NOT an ARNIE ;)
Cheers Ozzy! Yeah I like it minus the minute hand over the screen and the pointless dive function! You have to unscrew it to use it!! You won’t be able to turn it off till the watch is dry again!!hahahaha
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR 🙏🏻
Regarding the minute hand, I use the screen for the daydate function so it’s not as a big issue for me so far. Will update next week when I’ll be abroad and use the dual time, and will see how I feel about it ;)
Have to agree with you about the digital display placement; I think it looks better on the top than on the bottom. Since I already have the SNJ025, I don't see any reason to get the new anniversary one.
Me neither my friend! I’ll wait until they make my one Stainless steal!
I bought an Arnie last year and I wear it every day. Pretty cool when someone knows what it is.
I have to agree on the SNJ025. I love mine.
Exactly 16 seconds into the vid and i just knew i had to subscribe.
Absolutely excellent review
Thank you my friend!
Hahahaha very well put Anthony!!!
Another excellent video and "i'll be back" for the next vid. Have you ever reviewed a Mudmaster?? As looking to get a monster watch lol
Got one in at the moment and a FrogMan!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I keep looking at the GWG 2000......its a beast 🤣🤣
Great show! 🤩👍
Thanks for sharing!
I know this is old but I just ordered the PADI SNJ035 model today!! and thinking about the Limited Edition as well. Why I need two, who knows...
Great video, love your enthusiasm. Can't say I've ever been a fan of the original so can't share your frustration. However the lack of black coating on the inside of the clasp for the price certainly made my blood pressure rise. But that's about the only emotion from me. But as always everyone likes different things. What doesn't float my boat, sails others around the world
Great review, now I know which Arnie to buy. Thanks
It’s about time “ ER INDOORS” got her own channel 🤟🏼
Hahahaha NEVER!
I wonder why the bezel insert of the SNJ025 isn't shiney as the original Arnie.
They fudged up!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Yes, and the only simple feature that is missing on it is a countdown timer. #Commando1985
Got the 2019 reissue and was looking at this, til now. The bracelet 😱. WT forgodsake were they thinking.
Hahaha thanks for watching my friend!
Best dive function watch out there, period.
Have it deepth sensor and temperature sensor?
No
can you do for seiko sharp edge. Thanks in advance!🤙
I bloody well hope not! However you will be able to find some great deals now for my one!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Sweet deal man, thanks for the update!! Love ur channel and the extreme lack of snobbery, please keep it up!!!
I wear my Arnie almost everyday. Love it.
Just found your channel! ur as mad as a box of frog's awesome reviews!!!
you call it what you like, seiko gets to choose what they make and i for one think the 40th anniversary is the best watch in my collection its bad ass!! and bad ass is Arnie. change is good
Agree !!!! This one is way better than the Arnie !!!!
Always the best videos.
The SNJ025 is my beater. Swimming, yard work, bush walking. The crystal still has no scratches. I think if I ever got in a situation that would kill the Arnie, I wouldn't survive to mourn the loss lol.
Does anyone know if they are going to launch more new versions of this model soon and if it will have sapphire crystal? thank you so much
compare specs ? size difference?
Like the snj025 Arnie but this watch was not the watch in Commando. Just watched it a couple of days ago and completely different layout. Checked out Predator and that watch does look the same. Just had Citizen Aqualand bought for me for Birthday and it was delivered this morning.
Give me a review on the Aqualand my friend!!!
Thank you very much my friend!!
Classic!
What is the name of the Seiko watch call please?
Another great review!! Is there any divers out there? I know there is one! Hello 👋. 😆 🤣 😂 brilliant!
Hehehehe thank you my friend!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Cheers buddy. I really enjoy the channel. 😎👍
Hey mate, i just got mine in stainless steel loving it so far, question if i unscrew the dials does this mean that my water resistant is compromised? Thank you
I love the new Arnie, must buy one! I actually like the digital part on the bottom of this new Arnie. 😜
Love the arnie watches. To make it better: sapphire crystal, a countdown timer (like the original) and dont waste display space on the date, so rather than "Mon 6 " , have it read "Mon 01-06" for example.
GREAT IDEA! !!
I have to agree 100% i have the full set of the re issues. But this set are not re issues of the Arnie. they are a new design on the old Arnie design.
Thank you for watching my friend!!!
Why not the best of both worlds on the crystal - sapphire coated acrylic?
Hahahaha how tough would it be???;)
The diver log part just make me laugh so hard 🤣🤣😂😂🤓🤓
It’s hard to understand!
Initially, I couldn’t work out your problem with this new watch, but side by side, eeek. “What the wife said” is becoming my favourite online watch review, ever. One man’s ‘iconic watch with heritage’ is your wife’s ‘old man’s ugly bling’, fantastic as always, thanks for speaking the truth Madman’s other half.
I think I showed my disappointment with this one in my video. Obviously a much better review done by yourself and excellent vid as usual. As you say - it's just not an Arnie!
I’ll take a look my friend! Thank you for watching!
I would love to know what Mr Pagani thinks of the Seiko.
Well well well, didn’t think they would change such an iconic watch. Keep watching because ...I’ll be back 😎
Hahahahaha well said!
Oh man, I must be your cult fan. I was so interested when those all-metal ‘Seiko Arnie’s were released. But after listening to your review, I suddenly agreed, then shoved away that interest. Thank you for the enlightenment, My Master….🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hahahaha OBEY YOUR MASTER!!!!;) thanks for watching my friend and COME AND BE A MEMBER!;)
I personally can't overlook the luming of the wrong end of the seconds hand. This seems to be a Seiko thing across many watches. It just seems wrong to me. I enjoyed this episode!
They changed it for the better and I am buying one.
Hell no
