    Many thanks Anton, nobody susses out mics like you. Your thorough, comprehensive side by side comparisons are really helpful, and quite enjoyable as well!

    I have probably 30-40 handheld vocal dynamic and condenser mics. Thanks to watching your videos, I've learned so much about vocal technique. Wish I'd paid more attention years ago! Up until recently, my favourite was an AKG535eb and I under-used my Limited Edition (silver) M88TG. The handing noise is very noticeable (so now I handle it more carefully) and the plosives have been controlled much better by using a foam cover on the screen, which cuts down on the breath noise. Thanks to you, I've learned to point the mic at the corner of my mouth and am much more of aware of distance between mouth and mic when singing. All good stuff. Of all my mics, the M88TG (used properly) is now my favourite, it's soooo smooth and full and suits my baritone voice the best. I have some nice old Audio Technica mics (ATM61HE is lovely) which sound good, so maybe you should take a look at the AE6100. Thanks for all your videos, I've learned so much! Keep up the great work.

    I’d love to see you review the AKG D5 at some point! It’s relatively inexpencive at around 90€ new and I find it to be a good competitor for the sm58. I’d very much like to see your style of very in depth review of it ☺️

    Hello. Great video as always.
    I'm a baritone/bass I'm singing with a telefunken m80, not completely happy. I'm thinking to change it to a beyerdynamic m88 tg. What is your opinion. Thank you so much

    Great microphone review. I noticed that you haven’t reviewed any Audix, Audio Audiotecnica, or Electro-Voice. I’d be interested to see how they compare to the Beyer.

    I had the M88TG for testing, and returned it - solely because it let trough too much pops and plosives. So the big elephant in the room here: does the new grille perform as good as the vintage one again?

      I'm planning on a comparison across those that I have - 70's to TG, to the new one. So far I have had difficulty spotting a difference between the 2023 and the old pre TG ones, in any regard other than cosmetic!

    Greetings, Anton! Thanks for another thorough comparison and review! On the company name pronunciation of Beyerdynamic, I wonder (and I speak with no authority) if they chose the English word 'dynamic' intentionally as Beyer wanted to become a global electronics company. Otherwise why not call it Beyerdynamisch? While [doo]namisch is in the German wörterbuch I couldn't find [doo]namic.

    • @AntonBrowne
      @AntonBrowne  Год назад +1

      Well, I just went on what my German friend told me but of course, I could tell you at least three different pronunciations of 'yesterday' from across the length and breadth of the UK, so... I'm happy to be corrected.

    Recording vox - does the M88 pick up the room? Home recording.

    • @thegreatsiberianitch
      @thegreatsiberianitch 11 месяцев назад

      Every mic picks up the room, but it depends upon how loud your source is and the directionality of the mic, how open or tight the pick-up pattern is. Louder sounds equal higher sound pressure levels pushing against the walls, that is what interacts with the room. If you whisper into a mic in a giant room you won't hear the room, you'll also need better preamps so the mic will pick up quiet sounds... If you're singing loudly in little bedroom you will hear the room. You work with it by positioning and direction of the mic in the room because of how sound waves travel. Different spots/directions will sound better or worse. The best way to get the best results with any mic is to experiment. People like to say the SM7B "doesn't pick up the room" because it's a dynamic mic... I think the sm7b is marketed cause they know people will have to buy more gear to make the mic happy cause it's so gain hungry. Maybe best to start with a sm58 or sm57 and work up from there. Shure KSM27 is also a good all around starting mic that no one talks about, kind of cheap used. Its a condenser though and people say that it will "pick up the room" because of that, but if you filter off some of the highs it will be more like the frequency response of a dynamic and you won't have to crank the gain like some dynamic mics. It's whatever, that's just some my experience.

    Rule no.1:Tthe mic clip ALWAYS lives at or with the microphone! Never leave it at the mic stand, when taking of your microphone.
    Besides that, I loved this comparison a lot. As a singer and voice over artist am using the M88(from the mid 80s) for years and am very happy with it.

    I think Anton is biased against the m88. He likes them. Nostalgia. This video shows it. But I'm disappointed. For its price, the microphone is frankly bad. The song at the end sounded terrible. The singer is good, we have heard this song on the channel many times. But the microphone is terrible. Incredibly, the sm58 in this comparison, in my opinion, won.

    • @thegreatsiberianitch
      @thegreatsiberianitch 11 месяцев назад +3

      Nothing about the end of this video was "terrible". Maybe you have a bias because you listen to a lot of over processed recordings where computers are more dominant than humans?
      And "biased against", means "don't like", not "like". "Like" is when you have a "bias for". Like you having a bias for the sm58.
      I can't speak for this 2023 version definitively but I know personally that the m88 tg is a way better microphone than an sm58. It hasn't existed for this long because no one was willing to pay the premium for it. As is true with many other mics. As in it's being a tool for recording sound. Whether or not it's worth the money is based upon your use case, budget and experience. But to say the 58 "won" when it wasn't even performed with at the end is logically and objectively pure bias on your part. Idk man, "terrible", really? I don't think it was anywhere near "terrible", the recording or the performance.

      @@thegreatsiberianitch Dude, in case you haven't noticed, the video compares two microphones by different parameters. Based on this, we can conclude that the m88 is a failure. And if you listen to the song in the finale, there will be no doubt about the previous statement. If you can't hear this, change the speakers, or clean your ears.
