ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΚΑΛΟΓΕΡΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ definitely french. you can live here by only speaking french, as a lot of french people come to work in luxembourg. English will do for younger companies and german is maybe more used in the north, although frencj is still more spoken. Luxembourgish is tbh almost only spoken, nobody really writes it in official documents
Yeah, true unfortunately! It is not easy for us luxembourgers nowadays, we are forced to speak french everywhere. And if we don‘t we are called racists. The french of course don‘t make any efforts at all to learn just a few words of our language. (All other foreign national do the effort though)
French will be the most usefull language since it s the most used language in the Finance sector (with english) and it s the main language for administration purposes. Still, i am a luxembourgish national, my mothertongue is french but i also do speak luxembourgish, german and english and i use all 4 of the languages in my daily life/work. Depending on who i am adressing, i adapt.
So I would say in the city they majorly speak French, however I speak little French and got around perfectly with English, German will help with some people, I noticed that the towns nearer the border with Germany naturally had a lot more German speakers. No need to learn luxembourgish as people rarely speak it as their only language. Locals especially can often speak all three of the National languages. I visited in September of 2023 and it was great
Nice one, I'm thinking to visit Europe including Luxembourg..
what language is most usefull for work purposes in Luxembourg i mean for a non luxembourger? English ,French , German or the Luxembourgish?
