Kuuga, the first installment in the Kamen Rider Heisei Era. When a group of archaeologists uncover the tomb of a legendary warrior, they unearth Kuuga’s belt, accidentally releasing an ancient race of monsters called the Gurongi, bent on destroying humanity. Enter Yusuke Godai, a modern-day guy-next-door, who learns he is telepathically linked to the mysterious stone belt. With its power, he transforms into the legendary warrior known as Kuuga, humanity’s only defense against the murderous Gurongi monsters. The fight against the Hedgehog will always be a highlight, between the sheer violence, display of absolute power, and the biggest “oh, crap” moment in the whole series, I’ve watched it a dozen times.
Re: that fight: between the raw emotion in the beatdown and the infamous explosive ending, it's a classic.
Yeah. The only other moment in the franchise that's come close was Ex-aid's beat down on Para-DX. And the "oh, crap" moment especially being when he grabbed Para-DX mid-teleport. Saying there would be no next time.
Also agreed Kuuga is such an amazing series that still holds the test of time. A true love letter to the Showa era and a great way to start off the Hesei era.
We need more Rider in Tokushoutsu.

Kuuga is absolutely incredible and I love the shows main hero Godai Yusuke he has such a wonderful personality and how he interacts with the other characters is just outstanding especially when he gives out his iconic thumbs up.
And now we have Geats. Which isn't the worst option out there, but why not W?
Reasons why I love it is cause it was made in the year I was born, revived kamen rider as a whole and has an amazing protagonist with likeable characters

Probably because this is the best paced Kamen Rider series. It is slow enough for you to absorb the information and enjoy the story. But not so slow that you find it tedious. Every episode is its own story, and the over arching plot of the Ultimate Darkness is set up early enough that it doesn't feel forced at the end.
Yusuke is literally a Superman (not really but you understand that) done right.
In a grim world, attacked by unstoppable monsters that people dont know their weakness, this ball of goofy and happy light show himself. People call it coincident, I call it fate~ and a show, of course . _ .
but still~ a show wouldnt be a show if its not great/fun. This is 40% true, the other 60% are the story, the side characters the theme of the show, and even the monsters themselves.

You mean Kuuga is the Superman of Riders? You can't really do Superman right since imo he's a perfect hero, you can only do him wrong.

I loved watching kuuga all the way through! I would so buy a dvd of Kuuga if Shout ever gets the rights for a DVD release! Anyway, here’s some of the things I love about Kuuga. Yusuke was a fun main character who just wanted to keep the world smiling. Ichijo is a cool character, and watching his and Yusuke’s friendship grow throughout the show was nice. Discovering the origins of the Kuuga power set and the Gurongi was a really cool aspect of this show. His forms are simple, yet awesome, especially Rising Titan, my personal favorite. Anyway, there’s a lot to love about Kuuga, I would recommend it if you’ve never seen rider before, since this show is readily available like the original 1971 series, or if you’re looking for a Rider show with a different feel in between episodes of Saber (or the most recent rider show if you’re reading this in the future).

Toei Tokusatsu official youtube channel is posting Kuuga episodes every Saturday night (Japan time) and the episodes will be up for all youtube users for 2 days and after that, they will restrict the views to Japan only. 38 episodes are up so far.
