texts and arrows would help. for example, St. Andrews and then an arrow pointing towards it. also an embedded map of Edinburgh and an indication of whichever part of the city you are in relation to the map (north on east, south, or east). thank you for your videos.
It is a pity that on Calton Hill you did not walk to the viewpoint to the right of the front of the National Monument, where you would have seen (and let your viewers see) a spectacular view of the almost full length of the Firth of Forth as far as the famous Forth Bridges. The Royal Mile is not "The main drag...". At least, not since before the 1760s when construction on the New Town began. These days the main drag is Princes Street (where the Scott Monument is). "Cockburn Street" is pronounced as if it were spelled "Coburn" Street. Don't ask why, it just is...

When I was doing research for our trip to Scotland, I started with Edinburgh of course and stumbled across this video. I thought, I’m not sure I want to sit here for an hour but I’m so glad that I did start the video. This has been probably one of the top videos in letting me know where things are, how the city is laid out, and how easy it is to get around. I enjoyed the commentary in your video but also the bits of silence were fine too. Edinburgh is an extremely walkable city and I fell even more in love with it once we actually got there. I think maybe if I’m feeling a little bit lonely for the place now and then, I will watch your video. I’ve seen a few of your others they are interesting- keep going and thank you.
Wow. Thanks for such kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You might like the one from Dublin as well. I wish I'd started making these earlier in our year in Europe (see ruclips.net/user/TravelingMel ). Thanks for leaving this comment. It made my day -Henry
Thank you so much for this record of your walk. I used to live & work in Edinburgh 20 years ago and loved walking and exploring. It is one of my favourite cities in the world, along with Florence, Italy and Sydney, Australia. It was great to be transported back to such a memorable and happy time in my past. Other places to visit would have been The Grassmarket around to the West End past the Theatres, as well as down to Dean Village, then along George Street and down Leith Walk. Cheers Phillipa 🐨

First of all I would like to say I really enjoyed your tour. Your video walking through the streets of Edinburgh shows how easy it is to move about a fairly small city but also the directions of the streets and the shops along the way. Very enjoyable. Thank you for that. I also would like to say your voice sounds incredibly like Jim from The Office. This is my favorite of your walks because you start off in my favorite spot - Calton Hill! Thanks for doing these and keeping me sane in these crazy times!
Nice video and such interesting place.Jamaica's first serial killer Lewis Hutchinson was from here . He had a castle his home on the Island in the Parish of St .Ann called Edinburgh castle which is in ruins and is a National historic site. If you Google his name you can read about him.
There is a movie about the dog (don't remember the name of it) but it is an older movie which is still shown sometimes on Light Tv channel today ;). a very interesting show. Great video.
Love this view of Edinburgh--I have family and friends from this city who force on me their complaints about and nostalgia for the place. At two points in my life, I was to go, but for reasons, one tragic and another trivial, the plans died. (That is, someone not me and who had the money, had a tantrum.) Funny that the city looks like I expected, like my family--both drab and elegant, and grimed with ancient coal smoke.
Thanks so much for the Edinburgh, Scotland walking tour. It was not at all what I thought Edinburgh would look like. I was amazed at the flowers and walk-ability of the town. I expected a lot more traffic, like New York or London. It was obviously colder because most people were wearing coats, yet the flowering trees and gorse were spectacular. I envy those that live there those wonderful parks and historical places.
YEs, I was a bit surprised too. For a major city, it has the feel of one much smaller. I filmed several more Edinburgh videos this past summer that you might enjoy as well. Thanks for watching and commenting. -Henry
Nice tour (I admire your energy). Incidentally, the I-shaped brass cobbles just visible inset into the pavement on George IV Bridge (George the Fourth Bridge) at 33.25 denote the site of Edinburgh's last public hanging. Here, on June 21, 1864, George Bryce was executed for the murder of Jane Seaton.
That's great info! I love it when people add valuable tips like that. We were just back there in June. Such a great city. I'll have to look for the brass cobbles next time we go. Thanks! -Henry
The Scott Monument looks exactly like architecture in India that's over 5000 years old, or Tartarian. I think they keep RENAMING old stuff, to refresh its "use." The page is good; but take a few side trails too, ok?
I really enjoy the video. When you mention the nelson monument or St Andrew's House, etc., I had to look them up to discern their significance. It is okay but an explanation would make the tour a little easier. Still, thank you- it is beautiful!
@@CityWalks Thanks so much for all you are doing. I started my search with your work. I was just lazy. I did get a pen and wrote things down to look- up. The video is fabulous. It was more of a suggestion and not intended as a criticism. I felt like I was there and will continue to watch your video in prep for a post pandemic world. Thank you so much fir all you have done. It is on to Paris next- good for you and your family! Cheers
And did you know that occasionally when the weather is bad you can pass him and find that someone has placed a hat on his head or a wee coat or scarf on him. Edinburgh school children have a remembrance service for him also. And he has his own bagpipe tune. BUT please stop rubbing his nose, he doesn't like it.
I love that you just continue on even when you lose battery or need a coffee. 🙃. I loved the walk through the older city. Too bad battery died. Did you recognize areas when you saw Avengers?
I came across this because I live in the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Enjoyed your take on it. How come the left ofthe video is pin sharp. But the right is blurred/out of focus?
It Hanks for the comment and gods you enjoyed it. This was the first one I did and I was using my phone with a wide angle lens adapter that was slightly misaligned. -Henry
It's just because i was using a wide angle adapter on the phone and it was not aligned properly. This was the first walking video I ever filmed. I've gotten better. -Henry
Good job RUclips, you've ensured that I will never, ever, ever use Gramerley. I am intentionally misspelling so as to not contribute to the spreading of their name. Very nice video, would watch again.
David Forbes hah. Well I’m of two minds on it. On one hand I get a thousand of a cent when they show those ads but, man they are so annoying. It would be a bit better if they varied a little but they tend to repeat over and over. Thanks for watching though.
I'll have to think about that but nothing really comes to mind. I've actually been surprised by the fact that people haven't gotten upset that I"m filming. Before I filmed, I almost stepped on two snakes in Bear Trap Canyon. As for unusual, there was a cheese vending machine next to the road in Switzerland. In filming other things, I've been within feet of a sleeping whale and touched a polar bear in the wild (it was tranquilized) and had an otter poop on the trail about 8 feet away. But walking, it's mostly been awe at my surroundings. Nothing too dangerous or unusual. Thanks for asking. -H
Thanks for the wonderful video from City Walks! Ambient Walking introduced me to this channel. I want to be your channel friend. Let's connect if you like!
Well, it's a personal impression so your impressions may be different. I just looked it up and wikipedia describes it as Art Deco but I would personally adjust my own opinion to Brutalist. To each their own though. Sorry about the sniffles. This was my first video and I'm still learning 40 vids later. Thanks for stopping by. -Henry
why did you walk past the Balmoral hotel and not even comment on it, this is one of the best hotels in the world just askJ K Rowling who wrote one of her Harry potter novels in it and the hotel named the room she stayed in for about 6 months after her. tut tut.
Tone is often missed in these so I'm going to take this as a friendly tip. This was actually my very first City Walk and when I made it, I hadn't taken the Harry Potter tour yet. Though I took one later and several other great walking tours. And in my defense, Edinburgh has so many amazing locations and such long history, there's almost too much to cover. Thanks for watching and for the additional info. All the best and you might check out my newer Edinburgh videos. Additional info and comments are always appreciated! -Henry
Sorry to remark negatively, but I had to stop watching as the right side of the film was consistently blurry...and your constant sniffling drove me crazy (it's a personal pet peeve)
I understand. This was the first walking film I made and so there are a lot of things that I've improved on, based largely on feedback like yours. I always appreciate criticism that is constructive and polite like this because it can help me make the channel ever better. I hope you'll try out some of the newer vids. Higher resolution, less blur, and mostly less sniffling. I'll have some new Edinburgh vids shot last week at the end of the month. : -) -Henry
Hello Henry - I'm surprised that you responded so quickly!...and am happy to read you didn't take my remark as unkind. I'm travelling to Edinburgh (my first time) this coming September, so your video caught my attention. Best wishes with your video endeavors! I'll keep an eye open for them :-) Thomas

You saw garbage, and said, "trash"! Trash is trash by it's nature, and so is garbage, there's a difference between the two. In America they call the garbage container "Garbage". A child or an adult will say to a student or another adult, "throw the box in the garbage" and usually it's the bin that's in the classroom or the garbage container in a location. This container may either be filled with garbage or empty. I don't know why. I guess culture is so broad base, and unique! Or is it ignorance as it relates to the latter?
uh ok. Well when I see "Garbage", I usually call it "trash" because I'm an American and it's how I was raised. Thanks for the exposition on your personal etymology though.

Nice video...thanks!
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated. -Henry
Thanks for doing these videos, they kind of help with my wanderlust. I enjoy your commentary, as well. I look forward to more.
Thanks -H
The new town part of edinburgh is very nice to,some real nice streets on that side of town.
I'll have to check it out. Thanks so much -H
Rode my stationary bike to this this am. Thanks so much for sharing!
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Hoping to have a few more walks up soon. Keep riding :-) -Henry

A Salo thanks for the kind words. Maybe some day that will be possible 😀. Until then thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
I loved this Video. I grew up in Edinburgh.
Thanks -H
Too Bad i didnt do a video memory of those places i been this one is a cool place love it was there in June 2019
Summer is definitely better than winter to visit. I was there in June as well and filmed some more walks if you check the channel. Thanks and all the best - Henry
This is my favorite of your walks because you start off in my favorite spot - Calton Hill! Thanks for doing these and keeping me sane in these crazy times!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching. -Henry
NICE VIDEO.
Thanks -H
Nice video. I didn't know Harry Potter was written there.
Yes! JK Rowling has an amazing story herself, the way she was a single mom and became a billionaire with her own creativity and hard work. -Henry
love it
So glad to hear that. All the best .-H
Beautiful thx :)
Thank you too! -H
Thank you. Very enjoyable. My father was born in Scotland. My last name was to be MacWilliams.
Very cool! Love hearing these personal stories. -H
I LIKE RETOR TO SCOTLAND
I have nice remembers
It's one of my favorite places. I've created a Scotland Walks playlist. ruclips.net/p/PLYbTOisuKKIBMJOWLgGfjFVLPArspALx1
Nice video and such interesting place.Jamaica's first serial killer Lewis Hutchinson was from here . He had a castle his home on the Island in the Parish of St .Ann called Edinburgh castle which is in ruins and is a National historic site. If you Google his name you can read about him.
Well I had no idea. Fascinating. I will definitely google that. Thanks -Henry
I know Edinburgh. It is Awesome! Like and sub from Brazil!
Thanks. Yes, it is wonderful. Check out our other walks from there. -H
@@CityWalks Sure!!! I will. Thanks!
There is a movie about the dog (don't remember the name of it) but it is an older movie which is still shown sometimes on Light Tv channel today ;). a very interesting show. Great video.
Yeah, I've been meaning to watch that. Thanks for the reminder. "Greyfriars Bobby" I think
Thanks -H
And one of the most haunted cities in the world!! Pretty heavy but fascinating! My grandads family is from there
Thanks so much for the Edinburgh, Scotland walking tour.
-Henry
Que belleza de país ❤️
Thanks! -H
The Kilderkin pub 🍺🙌🏽
Didn’t notice that one. I’ll have to check it out next time I get there.
Thanks! -Henry
@@CityWalks I thought the cobbled streets were pretty cool. I somehow thought they'd all be gone.
Woww bro this was so good enterence on RUclips 🙌💓 keep it up i also want to start as soon 💫
Best of luck -Henry
That is the way I ever walked.
Thanks. -Henry
The Scott Monument looks exactly like architecture in India that's over 5000 years old, or Tartarian. I think they keep RENAMING old stuff, to refresh its "use." The page is good; but take a few side trails too, ok?
Great suggestion. I'll try to incorporate that. Thanks so much. -H
I really enjoy the video. When you mention the nelson monument or St Andrew's House, etc., I had to look them up to discern their significance. It is okay but an explanation would make the tour a little easier. Still, thank you- it is beautiful!
Glad you enjoyed it. This was the first one I ever did so I was still learning. -H
@@CityWalks
Thanks so much for all you are doing. Cheers
@@searscat1 Wonderful and thanks so much for watching. Hope you enjoy the Paris walks. You might like London as well. Au revoire! -H
your videos are wonderful! Nicely recorded, nice pace . Have you seen any blackberries growing wild there?
Not yet! -H
When you filmed the Gates of Greyfriers Kirk, you can just see Bobby's gravestone.
such a heartwarming story. I love that he's so well known in the city. -H
And did you know that occasionally when the weather is bad you can pass him and find that someone has placed a hat on his head or a wee coat or scarf on him. Edinburgh school children have a remembrance service for him also. And he has his own bagpipe tune. BUT please stop rubbing his nose, he doesn't like it.
good video, congratulations, what camera did you use? Thank you
I actually used my iPhone 6s. I put a $5 clip-on wide angle adapter and used a Lanparte gimbal for phones and gopros. Hope that helps -Henry
@@CityWalks ok, thank you very much for your help, where can I get a cip-on Wide angle adapter for $ 5? Thanks
David_Fg Amazon. I’ll try to post a link soon
@@CityWalks thanks very much
Here you are. Looks like its actually $7.50 - amzn.to/2LLfMKT -Henry
I love that you just continue on even when you lose battery or need a coffee. 🙃. I loved the walk through the older city. Too bad battery died. Did you recognize areas when you saw Avengers?
Yeah, after all that, it was about 30 seconds in the movie. Thanks. -Henry
Are the streets usually this empty?
Not at all. I got up very early as I was traveling with my family. During business hours there are lots of people around. Thanks for the comment. -H
I was wondering about that too! Thanks for asking and thank you Henry for answering.
Have you done one of Bucharest Romania and Dubai
Not yet but I'd love to. -H
What time did you start? And what day of the week.? I'll be going to be there during fringe and want to know how early I have to start my day?
Sonia Ziad hi. Not exactly sure but I believe it was around 7am
@@CityWalks That would be rush hour traffic in the U.S.
-Henry
Great videos. I like the talking most of the time. If people like maybe they can turn the volume down.
Thanks so much for the comment and the feedback! Dublin, Ireland should be up by tomorrow. All the best.
Was this filmed very early on a Sunday morning.
Yes Thanks -H
City Walks Edinburgh is one of my favourite city’s along with Munich
you need to carry extra battery or back up power source ☹
I’ll take that under advisement. Thank you for that feedback. - H.
I just want to know why the right side was so foggy in the picture?
It's just because i was using a wide angle adapter on the phone and it was not aligned properly. This was the first walking video I ever filmed. I've gotten better. -Henry
@@CityWalksThank you for your answer. Where are you from?
@@kopontim Livingston, MT. This was actually my first video on the channel. I've since done several more from Edinburgh. Cheers. -H
Why there were few people in such a good day
It was pretty early but I really enjoy being outside in the morning. -H
Good job RUclips, you've ensured that I will never, ever, ever use Gramerley. I am intentionally misspelling so as to not contribute to the spreading of their name. Very nice video, would watch again.
Yeah, you'd think they could vary the ads just a little. Glad you enjoyed the video though. Thanks for the comment. -Henry
@@CityWalks I downloaded AdBlocker so that silly ad (and others) will never grace my view again.
David Forbes hah. Well I’m of two minds on it. On one hand I get a thousand of a cent when they show those ads but, man they are so annoying. It would be a bit better if they varied a little but they tend to repeat over and over. Thanks for watching though.
@@medhat4B yeh but doesn't work on tvs and the app
Hey mate! 563. Like from me! You have very interesting channel!! I will support you forever!
Thanks so much. Stay safe out there. -Henry
You do know what Calton hills knowing for 🤔
Beltane?
What was the scariest/most unusual thing you ever experienced/saw on your travels on camera?

30th video walk 👟👟😂👍
Crushing it! -H
You went right by the Dugald Stewart Monument and didn't even mention it! That defies Common Sense! (Pun Intended)
Patrick Crosby oh man, I didn’t even know. Thanks for mentioning it
I'm trying to figure out how a building has a fascist feel to it as you stated about the St Andrews government building,
Well, it's a personal impression so your impressions may be different.
-Henry
both? You on a face of Scotland places I would most likely never see thank you
You are most welcome. Glad you are enjoying them. -H
@@thomaslucia3059 I'm in Estonia and working so I got notified and I try to respond to all comments as soon as I can. Have a great trip to Edinburgh. It's a wonderful city. Cheers. -H
Why is there so much garbage on the streets ?! 20 years ago, I saw completely different streets of this beautiful city.
Good question. Not sure. -H
pfffffff j y etais encore il y a 48 heures degouté
Hope you enjoyed it. This was filmed a couple years ago but I've got several newer ones too. -Henry
@@CityWalks wow! American! Oh well, you never see smoke without fire! Sorry, correction again. It’s not etymology , it’s word usage!
